Where to get carbon fibre bow backing, omc gone and Dale Stall also, anyone
-
This question seems to be asked often, so here is my response, round #3;
Apparently Gordon's makes a unidirectional carbon laminate, never seen it offered by a retailer.
This was my offering from another thread;
Here is a outfit that sells carbon sheet material in addition to prepegs. Sheet stock is pretty spendy. Prepeg laminated to clear glass might work depending on what you have in mind.

I don't think carbon fiber back or belly is available for BOW builders.
I think the bow company's that have carbon bows for sale make it themselves.
-
They may have it made for them, but OMC sold it and so did Dale, its a ply twill weave for backing, Used it lots. Now that I have A design and layup that works be nice to have access to it and also syntactic foam. Any help would be appreciated.
-
Yeah Flem I only make 2-3 bows a year so full sized sheets is'nt economical for me.

I’m in the same boat.

Maybe call dale or Belcher and ask where they got it?
-
As far as I know Belcher is not available and Dale Passed on.
-
Belcher has a new bow company. I think in Michigan. Sorry, can't remember the name.
I wasn't aware that Dale had passed.
-
I Know Belcher is making bows for Ron Laclair (Shrew). I also know that Gregg Coffey uses the carbon weave. He may be able to help you. Try jimbelcherarchery.com ????

Thanks all, I'll keep checking around, may have found a reliable source as soon as they have finalized a deal.
-
I’m interested

Bearpaw power carbon

I was getting my twill C from Dale. I made a prototype with the OMC C and it picked up on the edges, not impressed. If anyone knows of another distributor of C, similar to what Dale was selling, please let me know, I’d really appreciate it!
-
I'm thinking that the OMC stuff was the same as the Kustom King unless there have been changes.
-
"Bearpaw power carbon" same as the binghams stuff ?
Anybody use the Binghams core carbon??????????
-
Morrison is offering Twill.
-
Thanks Coltin the Carbon Morrison has is the stuff, although at .045 6 ply its a bit thicker than I have used, just have to adjust a little. The ply, thickness, and overall layup can very from one source to another.
-
Somebody's got to make this stuff, why not do it yourself? It's not that hard to make a composite sheet.
Anybody can easily do a hand laid piece and you could get the exact fiber orientation and thickness you need. Their are many tutorials on the subject, this is one I found doing a quick search.

Try big Jims I think he got most of Dales stuff.
-
The Rosewood shop will be getting it. Corona virus may slow it down though
-
I understand the folks at Morrison archery have it and will sell it.
according to there face book posts.

Yes it is listed on their website and you can buy a single piece if that's all you need. The downer is the shipping cost if you don't buy much. Here is a question about the carbon twill. Do you cover it with glass or is it the outer layer?
-
The .045 or so would be used as the outer layer on the back instead of glass, the thinner .018 or so is sometimes used under like .030 glass usually on the belly more so for looks, not sure how much performance you get using it on the belly but Bowyers who use it that way could tell you more, I've used it for the back only with a glass belly and can tell the performance is better on my designs than a glass back and belly, but then I am still exploring different lay ups, it is much more expensive than glass and the performance depending on design may very.
-
Morrison shipping charge is substantial, you could buy a piece of glass and have it shipped for the price of shipping :dunno:
-
I think they are using it on the super curves to stiffen them more than anything. But being lighter than glass it helps performance.
-
$25.00 to ship one piece 68" long.
$25.00 to ship two pieces 68" long
To Mississippi USA
You have to select the country and state to get the real shipping cost.
