I love the extra benefits of the knee high rubber boots. But have always bought the cheap uninsulated farm ones and used them only in the above 50 degree days. Are those "insulated" ones actually warm in zero weather? Are they worth the money? What brand? I have very high arches and will need room in the tops. Any suggestions?
I have a pair of Lacross Alpha Burley's with 1200 gr. weight of Thinsulate. They are very warm down to 5-10 degrees. I haven't used them in any weather colder than that. I'd say with another layer of socks they'd probably work down to zero or so.
Bowdude. I think.. yes. definately. Look for sales. Gander Mtn is opening a super store on the north side of Madison soon and I bet they have plenty of sales. Not only are they warmer, but they fit better so you can walk more comfortably and with less foot problems.

Check out the MUCK boots. They make a higher boot, and the main shaft is neoprene.

I went from Alpha Burlys with 800 grams to Muck Boots for early season! Once it got in the teens my feet would freeze in the Alpha Burlys! I think I should of bought 2 sizes bigger instead of one and wear better wool socks! My feet would sweat and my hunt was done! Late season when its in the teens to below zero I went with Cabelas Saskatchewan pac Boots! Expensive but will last me forever and my feet stay warm! I like that the liner comes out with the Saskatchewan boot and can dry them pretty quickly!
Personally i like extra tuf knee boots. I own uninsulated and insulated.
I have Muck boots and Extra Tuffs.... like both.
Had the 1200 gram Alphas but wasn't real impressed with the warmth. Also kind of "moon boot" feeling if your doing any distance. Now have the Muck Woody Max and wouldn't buy anything else. Comfortable, warm and I can cover a lot of ground. Feel lightweight.
Another vote for muck boots!
Muck boots and good wool socks ... pretty comfortable even in the late season here.

muck boots!
I find the uninsulated lacrosse works better than the insulated. The insulated fits tighter around my foot (I got wide ones). I keep warmer with the non, and a pair of liner socks, then wool. I think a little air space is the thing.
I've found the same thing as red. The uninsulated lacrosse work perfect. I've had them out many days when it was down in the low 20's high teens. Haven't been out in them any colder than that yet, but they work really good. Don't see a need for insulated ones here. dino
Uninsulated Lacrosse here too. My feet get cold, but I wear more socks and those chemical foot warmer things and it all works out. They have worked for the past two Ohio winters anyway.
Another vote for Muck boots!
Muck boots as well. They run true to size. Lacross tend to run a size or two smaller than marked. My insulated Mucks actually get too warm walking to and from stands. Nice and toasty on stand though.
I bought a pair of Muck Wetland boots last year. With a good pair of wool socks, I have been comfortable down into the low teens.
Who makes Muck boots. Where can I find them.
muck boots!!!!!!!
After owning 5 pairs of Lacrosse burly`s, I was talked into buying the Muck boots WoodyMax. I will never buy another pair of burly`s.
Your feet dont sweat in the mucks so they stay warmer, they are lighter & more comfy, & it doesnt take 2 men & a small boy to get them off & on.
I bought a size larger & when it gets real cold, I slip the chemical whole foot warmers inder the liner & you can sit in really cold weather & be comfortable. I used them exclusively all thru late season last year without a problem. I got mine at Sportsmans warehouse.

Hey thanks for all the info!
Mucks, they fit big american feet lol...Lacrosse are smaller and not wide enough...Lacrosse can be so tight , I once thought they werent coming off and there not big enough around my legs... :)
I bought a pair of Cabelas 2000 gram rubber boota s few years ago. With a pair of wool socks thay are pretty warm. I only wera them when it gets really cold or I am going to be sittin on stand a while.
Muck woody max, easiest boot I've seen for on and off. Neopreme folds down to make a shorter boot for indoors and removal. I use wool socks and a chemical foot warmer when it is cold.
Ron
muck boots for me.Have used them for several years.
Muck Woody Max!!! Will not sweat your feet as bad as the Lacrosse and with the right socks, I've worn them on stand in Minnesota in December with no problems. Very comfortable for walking in and light too.
Muck Boot Woody Armors, have to be more concerned about the snakes than the cold down here! All of the Muck boots are very comfortable, that's all I own any more.
Extra Tuffs without a doubt...go to Alaska and you'll see nothing else. People live in these things and they last forever. Get some "superfeet" braced insoles to put in for arch support and wear thick socks when it starts getting cold.
If you really want to get hardcore in the cold, get some "bunny boots" from your local military surplus.
Wore Burly's for years. Bought a pair of Mucks 3 years ago and I wouldn't have any other boot. The lightest, most comfortable boot I've ever worn!!
Over the last 4 years I have blown through a pair of Cabelas 800 gram DuraTrax and LaCrosse 800 gram Alphas. Looks like I might have to try the Muck boots.
I'm really thinking about going back to regular hiking boots. Not full leather though. I do too much tree climbing and stalking which destroys my rubber boots. I think if I got something decent and kept them as clean as my clothes, I'll have no problem with scent. Now if I have a real nasty area to walk through,I would like some rubber boots for those spots.
I spend more time in rubber boots hunting, fishing, and working than in any other footwear.
Here in Quebec a brand of boot named " Acton "is the most popular.
They offer several models of uninsulated and insulated boots as well as waders.
For cold weather I use the "explorer" model that has a removable felt/polypropolene liner
I have two sets of liners that I alternate
The boots are reasonably priced, not heavy and for what I use them for, durable
I never really bought the "expensive" rubber boots.
What I have ALWAYS done though, was buy my boots one size bigger, and wear either 1 or 2 pairs(depending on the weather)of good WOOL (like at LEAST 80%) socks on my feet directly against my skin. Many people do not know that the real secret to wearing wool to keep warm,it to wear the wool directly against the skin.
I've hunted in -0 degree weather with rubber boots and 2 pair of wool socks without my feet getting cold.
Love my Muck boots!! :bigsmyl:
