Title: Fletching carbons, what's the best adhesive??
Post by: myshootinstinks on April 11, 2008, 11:02:00 PM
Is there any benefit in using the pricey glues available at bow shops over plain ol' Super-glue?
They smell the same so I know they use the same base product.  What is your experience?

Super glue dries real fast and doesn't like to come off when it's time to refletch.

Clean with alcohol (the shaft). Then gel super glue. Or if you use the wraps around shaft all you need to do is dip in hot water an peel the old fletching off.

I just use the regular FletchTite after lightly sanding and cleaning with alcohol...works! But I shoot the wood grain carbons. The smooth shiny shafts would be different I'm sure.

I've used both Fletch-Tite and Fletch-Tite Platnum with no failures. The finish tends to come off when I replace the fletching after using the Platnum so I'm back with the plain Fletch-Tite.  Clean the shaft with alcohol and they'll hold.

I've used both Fletch Tite and Fletch Tite Platinum with no problems! I just wipe the shaft clean and fletch away, on wood grain carbon and regular carbon, Carbon Express!

When fletching feathers I only use fletching tape, fast, tough as nails, no mess, was skeptical at first, but after you do a few arrows, you will say why didnt I do this sooner. Sam

I'm with koger!  once you try fletch tape you'll never use anything else.

If you use fletch tape, and plan on hunting in VERY cold conditions, put your arrows in the freezer for about a half hour, and then take them out and shoot them immediately.

I have had fletching fly off when hunting in cold conditions, using tape. Pulling on them they held good, but the sudden force applied when shooting caused the bond to fail.

I've used tape.  Don't have much use for it anymore. Two rolls right now on my bench gathering dust.  :)

I use different glues depending on the shaft.
GT, Carbon Express, AD, Vapors and thing with wraps I use platinum.  Hold good and good dry time.  Any thing from Easton I use superglue (kwick-it, goat tuff, beyond bond, fast fletch, AAE super gel and there are some more that I've tried too).  They all work about the same.  Kwick-it thick with an accelarator is 5 times faster than tape, more cost effective per fletch and holds better. dino

I started using fletch tape about 4 years ago and have never looked back. I don't hunt in VERY cold conditions so I would take Bonebusters advice on that. I also put a dab of glue on each end of the fletch. Not necessary just a bit of insurance.

I use Fletch-tite Platinum for all my arrows including carbon. But I also like to put wraps on my carbons. It makes it easier to remove fletching if you redo your carbons arrows without having to scrape the carbon shaft. It may take alittle longer then the more expensives faster glue types, but I'm not in a race.
