Title: Limb Bolt Choices
Post by: Shredd on November 19, 2019, 10:19:41 PM
Here is my choice for limb bolts...  What do you think of them???    Has anyone else used these???

The knurled head makes them fully functional without the use of a tool... If they do get bound up too tight you can use the back of a knife blade to loosen them...  They are stainless steel and are pretty heavy...   They add some weight to the riser which could help with accuracy...

What are some other choices besides the bezel and allen head screws???

I guess them are cool looking. I would want them black on a hunting rig tho. Silver tips used a stud with knurled caps but bigger and no slot.
I have seen the button head bolts flush mounted in a phenolic overlay.

Bezels help put equal pressure on the limb if the tapped hole is not square with the riser.
The T/D's I was  making, the butt wedge was tapered all the way (.036 per ") , so no flat spot for the bolt.

Bue...  Insert in the riser...

Stic...  Yes agree...  A little flat black spray paint will take care of that...  I like your Idea of phenolic with screw through it...   I have a set of bigger ones that I would love to use but the threaded shaft looks pressed into the knob...  Scared to use them...  I will have to do some kind of stress test on them...

 Thanks Roy...

Max... Gotcha...  I can see them having a little give...

With these bolts I am choosing function over looks...  Although they are not streamlined I think they look kinda cool anyway...  I don't mind being a little different as long as the chit works good if not better...

Back in the day Bingham's only offered a 3/8" stud with a knob.  They worked fine built a bunch with that system I still shoot a couple pushing 30 years old.

My Sage has a big-ass knurled knob, without the benefit of the screw slot. I like your idea.

Those stainless knobs look great to me
If they are too shiny, you could heat anodize them. Stainless looks pretty cool heated to that blueish hue.

Shredd-

I think the form and function are both spot on! The idea of having the slot to loosen them up when they get stubborn is a great idea.

If you wanted to knock the shine off... could you use some Jax on them? If you don't mind me asking, where did you order those from?

Also... thanks for the recent tip on using the wedges you sent out.

Slotted Stainless Steel Low-Profile Knurled-Head Thumb Screws

Don't get the ones with the bigger diameter heads...  The bolts are pressed in and not one piece...  Could lead to failure...
