Just seeing if everyone else is feeling like I am; like a kid at christmas. Shooting daily at targets big and small with my Snuffers. Searching for some black hunting duds for the new blind. Fine tuning my calling with regular practice.
Man, I love this season... :bigsmyl:
Chris, I am gonna give it an honset go this year. I have a new DB and a new B-mobile decoy plus I know of lots of birds. I have never really been too much into it. I kiled lots with a gun and never thought it was too hard. I have killed quite a few with the bow but mostly fall birds. Today at work I saw at least 6 differnt flocks and at least 200 birds. Shawn
Well I'm just north of you in VT and I can't wait. I missed season last year due to health issues and I need to make up for lost time!
Started shootin out of the blind in my backyard last week, gettin used to it. Hopin to get up 2-4th. Good luck Joe
Blind is up, broadheads are tuned, video camera is ready, and Saturday morning cannot come soon enough!!
Sorry did not read the thread right, you were asking for new yorkers, please forgive my excitment
I'm not a NYer but I've been ready since last May when our season closed :help:
Trap
Been trout fishing to kill time...I'm getting real antsy. Every other day, I have 3 toms crossing my back yard displaying. My bow is hanging there, quiver full of arrows all tipped with razor sharp 160 gr Snuffers....I'm driving the guys I work with here on nights nuts cause I'm calling during the night....
Oh yeah! Just hope work permits some time to hunt :(
Keep your fingers crossed for me......
Hey Shawn,aren't you having surgery?
I have been shooting my 54" Bob Lee almost daily, I have my partner and Frazier my mounted bearded hen ready to go. Can't wait

I've been shooting my old 1967 1/2 Bear Kodiak Magnum (She's all dressed up wearin' her new "Bunny Hunt Bowstring" from Goldenhawk) and I've got my Razorhead tipped cedars (made by my buddy Joe Skipp) in my back quiver ready to go!!!!! My gloves and face mask are in a belt pouch with a couple mouth yelpers.....
I'M READY!!!!!!!!!! :archer:
No where near ready. Too much going on with work and such. I know I'll be ready by the 1st though.
It's funny - As I get older I don't have the itch like I use to. I love to hunt them but I won't bother scouting or practicing my calls until the week before. I know where the birds will be by 5/1 and turkey calling is like riding a bike I guess. I do hope to have some time to hunt out of the blind with my bow. Last year I only had 2 days that I didn't have someone else with me. (Wife, daughter, friends.)
Getting there.
Having my daughter Una join on her first hunting season ... you bet I'm ready! (BTW, youth hunt days this year are on 4/21-22! Both Ru and Una qualify.)
:archer:
No where near ready. I havent been shooting. I have arrows set up to go. I dont even have my camo out and ready. No idea where all my calls are...
The birds are all over and I hear about ten different gobblers from my house every night.
When I get motivated, it will be run and...um...bow. No blind, maybe a deke, maybe not.
Good luck everyone.
Oh yeah...herring are in for those of you that fish for the big ones.
I know of a young Soldier (my son Jason) at Fort Drum who is excited as he can be. He's been practicing daily with his Hill Longbow. He has seen several Gobblers with "beards to the ground" near his place and called yesterday to tell me about them. He said he cannot believe how much bigger the birds are compared to those he is used to in AZ.
Sure wish I was joining him.
Aram : This is direct from the dec site and it looks like the dates will be 4/26- 4/27. Adam, and I will be out after them :0) Drew

Tim
Una and Adam,
I would just like to say Good Luck to both of you this coming Turkey Season!!!!! It was a pleasure hunting with both of you at the Bunny Hunt, and I have a strong feeling that you two will be the torch carriers of our future. I'm sure that both of your Dads will be able to put you "in the right place,at the right time".....Shoot Straight!!!!!
May The Great Spirit Guide Your Arrows
Too true Chuck...too true...
Oooops! I was looking at last years dates. Then Ru corrected me (I guess he's ready too.) You are right, Drew, it's the 4/26-27.
getting ready.....watching the toms strut for about a week now. They are very vocal right now. alot of us from n.y here.
when is the first day of the season ? I see birds almost daily and they sure seem to be breeding now. I see some great tom's walking with full fan's out. What special BH do you have to use ? do you always have to hunt from a popup blind ????
Bill
May first is the opener, any broadhead that will kill a deer will work on turkeys keep them sharp. Many people hunt without blinds but a blind will make it easier to be successful IMHO but they are not a necessity.
I am having surgery but it was postponed. I do not do MRI's. I am skeered, so Workers comp delayed it. They now have to drug me to give me the MRI. The surgery won't be for at least 6 weeks. I am sorry but I never have gotten real exited about turkey hunting but I am gonna give it an honest go this year. That is if Cindy does not kill me. I found a FF Schafer T/D that I had to have, even if just to look at!! Charcoal dymondwood with stripe, checkered grip, bamboo core, birdseye maple veneers and antler knobs!! 58"s and 50#@27"s. OH MY!!! Shawn
Shawn turkey hunting is a blast, I was out this morning heard a bunch of hens. I know the boys are there with them :bigsmyl: Shawn hopefully you will be good as new for deer season anyhow, Joe and I are hoking up with a couple Trad Gangers today for some 3D I'm sure there will be a couple turkey targets there to take some frustration out on
Yeah, I just got a PM from Larry(LAR43) and he and Gregg are gonna be coming up for a weekend in May for a two day hunt. We will have 2 DBs and a place that holds over 100 birds. We should no doubt be into some birds and after the morning hunt, off to breakfast and than striper fishing on the Hudson!! Maybe by than I will be tired of the Schafer and Larry can buy it! :bigsmyl: Shawn
P.S. Maybe we will get Lucky and Curt can get time off that weekend! I know he is prone to colds about that time of year! :biglaugh:
TTT!
Shawn gave me a great idea with his last post. Anyone wanna come and do a little turkey hunting in my "secret spot"? Already trying to plan something with ishiwannabe, but I met a lot of great folks at the bunny hunt that I wouldn't mind setting up on a bird...
You can bet that I am ready! Be huntin' outa my place upstate the first weekend of Tom Turkey season. Got plenty of natural blinds around. Gonna use 'em, just hope the skitters aint too hungry.
... mike ... :jumper: ...
I'll send ya 3-4 cans of "Deep Woods Off" Mike
Lord knows it would only take a few of them to pick you up and carry you off..... :wavey:
I plan on missing at least 2 but Ill have fun doing it.Man is there ever a Great Turkey spirit watching over them birds when I loose an arrow at them. :banghead:
Shawn, I should be able to make it on a Sunday....my only day off...
Sounds like a nice bow,but you won't keep it :knothead:
Birds are going crazy!!!
No way you're going to miss this year Izzy. After seeing you shoot, and hearing how much you wanted a bird this year, down at Lemmes...well, I'll just be hanging around the computer until your trophy photos get posted this May...
I've got the first 2 days off from work, so I have 4 days straight to hunt.
Can't wait to start getting up at 3AM again....
I'm taking the first two days off myself. Then I like to hunt the last part of the season, when the adults are more vulnerable and the crowds have faded to almost no one.
Sunday will be good, I am not ahving much luck as of late. I believe I have lyme again. I have a nice bulls-eye on my groin. I never felt this guy but man I have felt lousy the last two weeks. Gonna see doctor tomorrow. Birds beware and I am gonna have to keep this bow as Cindy caught me and now I am done!! No more bows can appear or dissapear. I should have it by Tues. Shawn
Bulls eye where? Ouch...hope ya feel better soon seeing as the fish are appearing.
I listen to the gobbles every night. Nine has been the highest count so far. Sometimes the gobbles get drowned out by the yotes serenade though...
I really should dig out my calls and dekes...
Chris,
