I got the bow in the mail today. It is for sure a fine bow. The grip feels awesome. I have some D&M Custom Arrows that I thought would be close, so I got them out and began shooting. This is what I was getting with no tuning at all:

After playing with her for just a short while, I decided I needed a second nocking point, so I went inside and tied on 2 new ones. Went back out, and still with no tuning other than setting the nocking point, it’s still looking good!

I was worried about the draw weight when I signed up for this bow. It is 3# heavier than my normal bows. 3# doesn’t sound like much, but ever since I screwed up my neck, anything over 50# has seemed to create problems for me. This bow is 50@28, so it is about 53 at my 29” draw.
I will not be able to hunt with her for a few days, and that’s probably a good thing, as it will give me time to acclimate to the extra weight. Judging from what I have seen so far (only about an hour after unpacking her), I’m excited about getting to hunt with her!
Wish me luck fellas!!!!!!
And so it begins.........

Ok, finally got my chores done!!!
Well, today I went out and shot a couple broadheads. My flight was pretty good with field points, but a bit wonky once I put the 1.5” wide German Kinetics on the end. So I took Hope out to the shop, pulled out the paper tuner, shot a few arrows, and found out why!!!! After a few adjustments everything was doing good, and the broadhead flight straightened out nicely.
So I was sitting on the porch shooting my bag target, and shooting pretty well.
I then got to thinking about hunting with her. I checked the weather, and the wind was out of the SW. That’s a good thing for here at the house!!!
Soooooooooo, I decided I was gonna go for it! I got cleaned up and headed for the stand at the top of the hill.
Gotta go fix supper! Be back in a little while.

:campfire: There’s gonna be a blood trail at the end of this story...!!
-
Ok, just had leftovers for supper, so that went pretty fast.
Anyway, I hiked it up to the top of the hill at about 3:30, and got situated in a permanent enclosed ground blind. I was texting a few friends about hunting with Hope. I wasn’t sitting there 20 minutes when I see a doe come walking in from my left. I got all excited and picked up the bow. As she got closer, I could tell she was a younger doe, so I just eased back into a more comfortable position in my chair to watch her.
Then, just a few minutes later, another doe came in from directly behind me. As soon as I saw her, I knew she was an older doe, and decided I would shoot her if I got a good close shot.
She worked her way around to about 10yds out my right window, was slightly quartered away, and moved her near leg forward! I call that “the dead deer position”!!!
Everything went into auto-pilot after that. Next thing I knew, my arrow smacked her side, and she went to barreling out of there. At about 20yds, her front end went out from under her, and she tumbled over dead at about 30yds.
Total time from shot to dead deer was about 6 seconds!
I love it when a plan comes together. I also love this JT Traditions longbow!!!!!
Anyway, here’s first blood for Hope:

I will be after horns from here on out, but have one place with special permits where I might get to try for another doe too. The plan is to concentrate on the bucks though!
I absolutely love these Hope bows. This is the 3rd time I’ve participated, and all have been good bows, and I have been successful with them all also.
Wish me luck for the next 2 weeks!!!!!

Went out this afternoon to a small piece of ground I have leased from a friend. I had to help unload 200 alfalfa bales and was a little late getting going. I did not go to the stand I wanted to because of the time. Anyway, I saw a bunch of deer. Does and fawns, and 5 little bucks. Nothing to shoot at today. We’ll see what happens tomorrow!!!!

Well, I got him all quartered up and in the cooler, so I guess it’s time for a little story!!!!
First of all, Wudstix, it’s not the big one I saw yesterday morning, but he’s a good buck, and I’m happy with him, esp since Hope got to play along!!
Anyway, yesterday afternoon, I went to the same stand where I had seen the huge 8 in the morning. I went out real early, just in case he tried to get one over on me by coming in there earlier than normal. Anyway, I went to the blind at 1:00pm.
Man, it was a looooooooooong sit. I never saw a deer till 5 minutes before the end of legal shooting time. And he was just a dinky little 6pt.
That made three hunts in a row in the same stand. I got to thinking maybe it was too much, and decided to go to a different blind this morning.
I got out to the blind about an hour before daylight. I threw out a little hand corn, and tucked into the blind to wait for the woods to wake up.
About 15 minutes before sunrise, I saw the first deer. It came walking down the trial and stopped at the hand corn. It was a nice big doe. I just sat and watched.
As the minutes passed, more deer came in. I bet there was 7 or 8 does and fawns all out in front of me. Then a little dinky 7 point came in. He wasn’t really chasing, but the does would move out of his way whenever he got close.
I was watching them all do their thing, when all of a sudden a few of them picked there heads up fast and looked off to my left. I knew there was probably another deer over there, but could not see what it was.
After a minute or so, I saw him. He was way out in front and to the left of where I was sitting. He had his nose up in the air trying to sniff out a hot doe. I guess there were not any there, because he put his head back down, and turned to walk right towards me.
As he got close, I could see three points on both sides. I decided he was a good 8, and I would shoot him if things worked out.
He kept coming, and as he got closer, all the other deer cleared out of his way.
Eventually, he worked his way to about 10yds, broadside, with his near leg forward. The “Dead Deer Position”!!!!!
I don’t remember much about the shot. Things seem to go into automatic mode once I decide it’s time to draw. I do remember seeing the arrow disappear into the deer very low and right about where I was looking. I felt really good about that!!!!!
After just a few minutes, I could not stand it any more, so I had to go look for my arrow. I had gotten a total passthru, and the arrow was lying on the ground about 5-7yds past where he had been standing. I picked it up, and it looked very good!
It does not show in the pic, but the arrow was covered in good blood.
I had seen him run and enter some brush about 25yds from the blind. As I started to trail him, I actually got a bit worried that things were not as good as I thought. The blood trail was very scant, and I didn’t find a single drop till after I got into the brush. Then, just small drops every so often.
I came out of that brush after about 15yds to see this:
Upon inspection, I found that the shot was indeed right where I had been aiming:

Ok, all caught up.
I went to a stand I haven’t been to all year this morning hoping to get a doe. Like always, I threw a little hand corn in the spots in front of the blind where I wanted to eventually get a deer to stand. Right at first light, I saw the first deer. It was a doe and a fawn. They mulled around for a little while, and then 3-4 more does and fawns came running in.
Then a couple bucks came in, and ran all the does off, chasing them off into the brush. I thought I had missed my opportunity.
Well, a few minutes later, here comes two of the does back. They are working their way in, when I see the bigger buck coming across the opening from a ways out. I know it’s only a matter of time! If he makes it all the way in, he’ll just chase them off again.
Anyway, one of the does then slipped in from my left up close. Like 10yds close!!!
As soon as she turned to a good angle, I drew and let the arrow go.
I kinda lost sight of the arrow, but knew it had hit her. She took off and ran into an open area, and about 125-150yds out, just before getting to the brush again stopped. That was where I watched her topple over.

The arrow I found the best out of what I had was a full length .400 spine Easton Axis Full Metal Jacket shaft, with a 75gr brass insert, and a 150gr point/broadhead.
I have a 29” DL, so draw weight for me is around 53#

So this has not gone as I had hoped. The bow is amazing, and after a little fiddling, it’s tuned up and shooting arrows like a laser in my effective range. The only problem is, the timing couldn’t be worse! Between sickness, family stuff, and work schedule, I have only been able to hunt with Hope one time. The few times I’ve had available have been pouring rain or the wrong wind for any of my spots. I’m hoping my fortunes change next week, but we will see.
I feel really guilty with her not getting any use. I would have never expected all of the crap that’s come up to keep me out of the woods.
-
Slowbow.....sign up for another week !!!!
-
Thanks so much, for this opportunity. Early March should still be decent weather to traipse around after hogs at Granger, and perhaps Camp Bullis. Trust that I will be able to take the air out of a pig or two..

Camp Bullis.....
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while!

Sorry to hear you have been dealing with the stuff. Life sometimes throws us a curveball. I hope things are going well and just wanted to thank you for signing up and giving your feedback. What a really cool thing Terry and all you Trad gang members have got going for this very worthy cause of Saint Judes!
Bless you all !

Don’t sweat it , King!!!!! Take care of things and get out when you can. It’s all about the experience anyway, whether you get a critter or not!!!
Good luck during the rest of your time with her!!!!

SBK;
Camp Bullis is the lease I can afford. This year got drawn, bought permit for early season and then didn't get out. Hope to do some hog and exotic chasing with the permit I have. Both with my bows, probably Big River 21st Century clone, Kota LB I picked up from PBS Auction and Hope when she gets here in March.

Well, finally got Hope out for a couple of hunts this weekend. No deer spotted, but it felt good to just be out there. There were about a zillion squirrels on the move. Wish I had some flu flus and small game points set up...I woulda forgot the whitetails and gone after the bushytails!
-
After hunting every day recently except for the 25th, I’ve determined our small woodblock just doesn’t hold deer this late in the year. Last night I found some old cedar shafts my dad has fixed up with flu flus and blunt tips...these arrows are OLD. Like, I can’t remember them not being around. But I went out in the yard and dang if they didn’t shoot really good out of Hope!
So this morning I decided to go squirrel hunting. Every day I’ve deer hunted lately there have been tons of squirrels, all very active. Today I go out and—guess what—next to no squirrels. I did stalk up to a big fox squirrel and take one shot. It was a long shot...over 20 yards...and I watched those big yellow fletchings all the way to the spot I was looking. It was one of the best shots I’ve ever made! Unfortunately, that dang squirrel was watching it too, and juked around behind the tree right before it got there. Oh well, it was still a lot of fun. I stumped my way back to the house afterwards. Tomorrow morning’s my last hunt with Hope before I send her on...wish me luck!
-
Much luck sir! Take some pictures. :)
-
Well, my time with Hope ended with no blood drawn. I wish I could have gotten in some more hunting and had a shot opportunity or two on a whitetail, but it was still a great experience. The JT Traditions Apollo is a heck of a bow. I quickly learned that the only limitation on this bow was the shooter himself! This was my first time shooting a longbow, and as much as I love my vintage recurves, I'm really, really going to miss this bow. If my finances allowed, I would be ordering one of these right now!
I shipped her out to Randy on Friday. She should arrive on New Year's Eve. Best of luck with her, sir.

Taking Hope out for one of a few whitetail hunts. No deer were spotted.

Took Hope out squirrel hunting a couple of times. The last day I had half a dozen shots, but couldn't connect on any of them. Those tree rats provide a very small target! A shot that would be a quick, ethical kill on a whitetail can easily be a clean miss on them.

Hope is not only a shooter, she's easy on the eyes as well!
Thanks to Terry for organizing the Hope passaround, and JT Traditions for the bow donation. This is a really great deal, and glad that it will be able to help out a worthy cause after we've had our fun! Good luck to all the other Trad Gangers who are going to be taking out Hope!

Looks like you had a good time with her King, and experiences the same as me about how good the bow is!!!!
Good luck with her Randy!!!!

That’s the plan!!! I need some mojo cause mine is obviously gone for the season! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Hope arrived in Texas today!!
I finally shut the shop down just before dark and was able to get her stung up.
The card tube was crushed a little in one spot so I was Worried but the bow was safe and sound! I will replace the tube with a 4 inch PVC tube when I ship it to the next person in line.
I was able to get a few shots out of her before it got completely dark. Here are the first 3 shots from only about 10 yrds

First impressions.... and folks, I believe in complete honesty and will tell you exactly what I think regardless of who’s bow I’m shooting or reviewing! I will not sugar coat anything just because someone is a sponsor and I expect the same honesty from everyone else should they review one of my bows.
So here goes!
Craftsmanship is top notch! All glue lines are perfect, fades are perfect, overlays are blended in perfectly! Finish is top shelf as well.
I am Very impressed!
I initially was thinking I wouldnt like the grip but after a few shots that went completely away. Grip is very comfortable and repeatable. A little lower wrist than I personally prefer but it will fit a wide variety of shooters no problem!!
After the first shot I was completely blown away how quite this bow is and how very very little handshock it has. ( no bow is completely shock free I don’t care who’s it is or who says differently)!
The draw cycle is very smooth as well! It felt a little lighter to me than the marked weight and I checked it on my scale and it was a few lbs lighter than as marked but don’t worry about that cause it shoots my fmjs with authority and no slouch in the speed department!!
Now I’ve only shot it about 9-10 times but I will tell you this.... this bow is in the top 4-5 bows I’ve ever shot from any other bowyer as far as over all feel and performance! ( I have shot dozens and dozens of bows from other bowyers because I also do weight reductions and re-finishes)
I was really skeptical at first and honesty didn’t think I would care for it because it is quite a bit different than what I build but I admit I was wrong!! This bow is amazing and I’m sure it can only get better the more time I spend with her!
Just goes to show you that you never stop learning!
My season closes on Sunday And I plan to set my bow aside and hunt with hope the last 2 days of season and I (Hope) she will bring me some much needed mojo!!! I will be posting more as my time with her moves forward!
GREAT BOW!!!!!
-
What an awesome first impression! Can’t wait to get my hand on her in April.
-
Glad she made it to ya ok, Randy! The tube was a little banged up when I received it, which I’m sure didn’t get any better during shipping...PVC replacement is a good idea.
I agree with all your initial impressions...she’s a sweet little bow! Good luck as you finish out your season—May your blood trails be short and all your drags down hill!
-
Good luck with her Randy!!!! She sure treated me well.

Didn’t get to hunt today. :( Wind was wrong for where I wanted to hunt so I stayed home and Helped the wife cook for a bday party and snuck in a few hours in the shop.
Tomorrow is the last day and the wind is supposed to be good. Going back to one of my honey holes and try to end the season with a kill.
Same place I doubled on a buck and a doe on the last day of season last year.

Well that’s a wrap for my deer season in Texas. Got skunked this morning.
I took the time to do some more scouting and took a different route on the way back and found some really good sign that will come into play next year.
I still have my hog/deer hunt in Louisiana in about 2 weeks and I plan to do some more scouting over the next few weeks to try and locate where the deer are feeding and bedding this late in the season and with these dry conditions to better prepare for next year.
It ain’t over!!

I was planning on going back to the wma tomorrow and doing some hog hunting/ post season scouting but there is some really nasty weather rolling in. I will try to go Sunday instead now.
Can’t wait!!
-
Since my deer season is over here I Took the morning to do some scouting with hopes I’d bump into a hog or 2. No luck on the hogs but did find a lot of good stuff I’ll log into my memory bank for next season. Bucks are still working scrapes and got pics of a small buck chasing a doe. Never seen it so prevalent this late in the season. Been a crazy year!

Getting loaded up to head to Louisiana tomorrow morning for 4-5 days of hog/deer hunting with some buddies and meet some new ones! I look forward to this trip every year!! I’ll have lots of pics and hopefully some blood will be spilled!!

Have fun Randy.....
And. If you want you can keep her through the 1st week of Feburary....then you can ship her to me. We wont be using her till the 22nd....so as long as she's here by the 20th so I can pack her up that will be fine!

Thank you

I was able to take the afternoon off and made a trip out to the wma to do a quick hunt and scout some areas I’ve been wanting to see on foot!
Didn’t take long till I was in some really good sign.

Nice job on the tree rat Randy. Those little jokers are tough to kill with a trad bow!
I know nothing about hog hunting, but I get the wallow pics. So what’s up with the tree pictures? Do they rub against them or something?

Good deal CG!!!! I bet that bushy tail tasted good!! :campfire: :campfire:

Great job buddy. I have no deer, hog, elk, or bear with a bow but I definitely have killed some squirrels. I know what a challenge it is!! Congrats!!!! Thst is one fine shooting bow!

Yes sir! They will rub on trees all around a wallow. They especially like cedars and pines. I believe because they get the resin on their skin and it helps keep off tics and other insects. The big rubs like pictured are community rubs where they leave their scent for others to know who’s in the area. Like a scrape.

If you have private property put out some railroad tie or telephone pole posts and they will rub them hard for the creosote in the poles to keep ticks and bugs off. Bury them a couple feet deep and 4-6 feet above ground. Come on March!!!

-
I got Hope. Maybe I can get out,and shoot it some before it makes it to Crane.
-
Great to hear.....will see and 'date' her soon!.....she's going night hunting!!!
-
A few shots of Faith.
This the first long bow I ever shot. I draw 30" and it felt smooth all the way out. Although about 10 pounds heavier at my draw than what I'm used to it didn't feel like it was stacking to me. Very comfortable grip to me and I prefer a high grip on my recurves.
Shot some 538 grain arrows through the chrony and got some really decent speed with it. It's 49@28 so I'm guessing I was drawing around 54 lbs. 178/179 fps average ain't bad for any bow at 10 grains pp.
Sadly I won't be able to take her to the woods before my cataract surgery.
Who's up for a date with her March?

What a beaut and good shooting. I got to shoot hope a while back at the hog hunt and she was a good shooter. Faith looks like a rockstar and more my speed with the lefty part.
Funny story.... I was shooting a few of Randy's bows at the hog hunt and got to shoot hope. I guess I didnt realize that this was the bow from this thread. Well I just thought it was his bow shot it and told him I liked that one the most out of the bunch...... he looked at me and said that's not one of mine....whoops.
-
Thanks JY...for both a successful surgery and providing a bow for us lefties to try.
And a beauty at that.

Thank you and everyone else on here. This is definitely a win win deal. We all know in the end it’s about the kids. I don’t have any personal experiences like I’m sure many do, but it nearly tears my heart out to think of what these children are having to go through.

Odd that nobody wants to try her out for March.

Well just got all caught up on this thread. Looking forward to my time with Hope in October. My shoulder surgery is Wednesday morning so got a long road back to 50# bows but it is a great goal for me.

Looking forward to the hand off AT. How did she do on the TX Tusker hunt?
:coffee: :archer2: :campfire:
-
I'll be posting about that soon....
-
I was toting Hope all week at the TX TUSK HUNT and wanted to add to her legacy. Well, I got only wo shot opportunities and I took them. Cant believe I shot both with 4 blade Zwickeys and didn't mess up on shoulder, ham, or back strap......
-
Well the hand off took place in front of the old Bass Pro in SA TX. No pics cause the two off us together would have been just too much.
:o
Took Hope out of her sock and am truly impressed, she is a looker. She certainly is the Fenwick flyrod version of longbows, and will be a delight to carry. A GN strap-on quiver with 4-5 arrows will no doubt more than double her weight. The colors are a shade darker than the pics indicate due to sunlight, I'm sure. First impression of the grip is it fits me perfect. The R/D is good on this bow. I'll see if I have anything that will shoot through this bow. Perhaps I have some lighter spine wood arrows tucked away.
:coffee: :archer2: :campfire:
-
I was shooting my arrow dynamic that I always shoot out of 60 to 70# bows. Wood arrows might be different for sure though.
-
I'd like to try woodies, but have Beman ICS 400 that I can tinker with. Also, may even be able to unearth some aluminum shafts that will work.

Can't believe that no lefties want Faith for March.
I get cataract surgery next week and won't be able to take her to the woods w/o enough practice before April.
Cmon' southpaws. She's quick and sassy! As well as beautiful.

Can’t wait for April! I have everything from 500’s to 340’s to play with in all different lengths. I’m hoping for my first longbow turkey 🤞🏻
-
Nice shooting, Terry!
Wudstix, best of luck with Hope. She is definitely a sweet little bow.
-
Thx slowbow....this bow is a shooter for sure. I've shot a lot of Hope n Faith bows over the years but this one seems to fit me best as I shoot it lights out!!!!
It's a really well designed bow that I can't find any negatives about.
-
So far I really like the grip and the smooth draw. Hope tomorrow I'll get to throw some arrows.
:coffee: :archer2: :campfire:
-
I’m a recurve guy 100% so I’m looking forward to shooting hope and trying my hand at a longbow.
-
Caleb; I think you'll really like the grip, transfer from "recurve" feel is almost instant. Most "hybrid" R/D longbows feel and shoot very similar to recurve bows. I've heard them refered to as "straight limbed recurves". Benefits of both designs.
:coffee: :archer2: :campfire:  :wavey:
-
I don't care what you shoot....the grip is FINE!!!!
-
AMEN!!! Fills your hand.

Looking forward to it. Our gobblers are just now splitting off from the large groups. Same time frame as last year. The beginning to middle or April should be dynamite.

I hope, pun not intended, that my last statement didn't come out wrong.....I meant to all...the grip is really nice.

Have some un-planned time off until at least 1 April thanks to Covid-19. Looking forward to shooting this beauty, she draws smooth. Have some Beman ICS 400 that should work with enough weight up front. May even get to hunt her, or at least get her into the woods.

Gracias a Dios!!! Finally got some time with Hope, alone. She did not disappoint. With her 48.8# at my draw length she showed my how critical, good release is, with solid anchor and follow through. I didn't check brace and just strung it like it came in the box, from the TX Tusk Hunt 2020. My bows are all a bit heavier and don't give me much time to move anything when the hair covered computer says it's go time. Hope was/is smooth and quiet. Most of the session she was shooting the line. When I entered the equation that changed a bit. This first pic shows how most of the day went. My home range is limited to 18 yards, but with a little imagination 25 is possible shooting over the rise. Had a couple arrows go an inch high, and two go to the right.(All Me) All my shooting so far has been with the wood arrow in pics that I'm not sure of spine, but it does fly straight, when I do my part. Also with her lighter weight I possibly stretch my draw to closer to 28"+ and that may be why I got a few arms stings.
-
This is what happened when I tried to shoot the arrow instead of letting Hope do her thing. Plus, plucked string a tad.
-
When I was not focused on follow through Hope still held the line, but as I peeked the arrow went where I was looking.
-
Most of the day went like this, as the center started to get a bit soft. With attention to a solid release and anchor and follow through, Hope did not disappoint. With a wood arrow of questionable spine and a rushed shooting session, before it started raining again. These shoots were all at 10-15-18 yards. My Rick Barbee tab lived up to expectations. In my "test tunnel" between the house and fence Hope was almost unnoticeable, with just a whispered thump and the arrow streaking to the target. I could only imagine how this bow would perform with poundage just North of 60#. Hope to get more time with skinny sticks, just for my education. But from my brief time with Hope it looks like woodies work just fine. I'd like to be able to reach out to 30-35 yards, but that doesn't look possible.

-
sure hope she likes wookies cuz thats what ill be shootin out of her come september...elk, deer, bear, wolves,
cougar and grouse are all on the menu...im hopein HOPE aint picky :bigsmyl:
-
Mr. Phillips;
She does indeed enjoy woodies, I was a bit concerned about the spine, but apparently it was right down the alley. I plan to throw some Beman ICS 400 down range today, but will wipe her down with Holy Water afterwards to cleanse her spirit. Hee-hee
:biglaugh:
-
ur gona throw what :o after putting her through all that she'll need a bath not a wipe down :biglaugh:
-
Well the carbons that I had on hand did not shoot as well as the previous test. They were fast and smooth, but did not group as well. Again probably due to what I had to shoot. Beman ICS 400 29 1/8" BOP with a 100 grain brass insert and 125 grain FP. Arrows weighed 550 grains. Two were three fletched with 5" shield and one was four fletch. That did not seem to have any baring on the groupings. Shot 3 dozen just like the previous test to make it fair. Shot one Beman 340 Hunter with a 100 grain brass insert, 2" of 2215 footing and a 160 grain FP. It flew low and right @6" and I think it was cracked before hand, as the tip continued on after the arrow stopped in the foam. I'll get it trimmed up and footed for use with my heavier bows as a stump beater. Below is the first three arrows a 15 yards. First two were tight by third was a bit left. These groups continued very similar through the remaining 33 shots.
The next two pics are from different perspectives. Straight on and from the top. I'm sure it was operator error, but I could not get them to stack. Groups were fairly decent, but 1-2" wider than the previous test. So take it for what its worth, from a wood arrow addict testing carbons. I'm sure if I had more suitable arrows the results may have differed.
-
As an addition note; all tests were conducted without a bow quiver attached to Hope. The target used in the previous test was initially used with 4 of 6 arrows blasting through, Two stopped at the feathers. This target is very old and is used for broad head flight testing with a piece of tan carpet draped over the front. The wood arrow used had an ACE Hex head mounted on it.
-
Sounds like y'all are having a good ole time.👍
-
Going to boost point weight tomorrow for grins.
:coffee: :campfire:
-
OK, chalk it up to unfamiliarity with carbons. Shot both the Beman ICS 400 29 1/8" BOP with a 100 grain brass insert and a 190/200 grain point, also a 230ish grain point. Hard to get precise on my hand held grain scale. I would not have guessed the major difference in the two. Both flew whisper quiet. The 200 grain point was spot on every time. The pics are representative of the couple dozen groups with the lighter head, total arrow weight 625 grains. The heavier point/arrow flew within what I would consider a killing radius(6"), but the 200 grain point on these arrows hit right were I looked every time. Can't argue with that. The Rick Barbee tab is used for a reference, roughly 1 1/2", two fingers. The top pic is typical groups at 15 yards. And the bottom pic is a close-up. For a 48#+ bow this one sure performed.
-
Let's complete the trifecta, so to speak. As limited in scope as it is. I had 2216, 28 1/8" BOP with 145 gr screw-in points and 2215, 29 1/8"+ with 145 grain screw-in points. This first pic is of the 2216. Only shot two groups cause they were very stiff, but shot together, just left. 2215 were also stiff with this set-up, but were closer to were I was looking. Put about 3 dozen arrows down range and these pics are pretty consistent of the groups. As usual whisper quiet, no bow quiver and no string silencers. Bottom pic is a close-up of group. Need to get some tapered inserts for these arrows to glue-on points and heads, and use them up. Plenty of piggies running around Texas. She goes back in the tube Sunday.

And here we go!
Hope arrived safe and sound on 4-1-20. Through all this crazy stuff going on in the world I’m one of the lucky ones to still be working. We’ve been so busy I didn’t get to take her out until today.
I have never been a longbow guy. Ive always wanted to be. But everyone I have ever shot did not like me at all. UNTIL TODAY! This damn thing is a hammer!!!! Super light, no hand shock and quiet.
First group was with very under spined 400’s but still grouped well. After those 5 I grabbed some full length 340 GT trads that have 50gr inserts and 200gr points. A mix of feathers and vanes, all 4” 4 fletch. 10yards on all the groups so far. I’ll go out farther tomorrow.
She shoots like a dream! I’m going to continue to shoot all week. Saturday she will go to the woods in search of Tom. :goldtooth:
-
Yep, I'm very impressed with these bows. Couldn't find a negative.
Nice shooting!...I'd say it likes you. :readit:

Awesome!!! Good luck turkey hunting

Good luck Caleb!!!!!

Thanks guys! I shot a little before work this morning. :archer2:
This thing really is a dream to shoot.
-
Just sorry I didn’t get a chance to hunt with her.
:campfire:
-
Wudstix
Thanks for the time you spent with her! I’m sure she really enjoyed hanging out with you too!
-
Thanx tried as many arrow types as I had to get a good feel for her. She is a fast one.
:campfire: :campfire:
-
I always love reading these threads. Looks like these bows are sure enough killers.
-
Been a bit since I’ve posted. We are slammed at work because of the virus garbage.
Anyway.........I have hunted many afternoons and all weekends. I have only had hens within range. But I’ll tell you guys and gals something...I have fallen back in love with stump shooting!
I’m going to try and keep my brain focused tomorrow. Going back to a spot where I had 1 gobbling on the limb Sunday morning. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🦃🦃
-
Focus and follow through.
:campfire:
-
Good luck hunting !
Thanks for keeping us updated
-
Broadheads only in my quiver so I don’t get sidetracked with stumps.
Roosted a good one I’ve been playing with for the last week tonight.
Hopefully the weather holds off long enough in the AM I can get him right after fly down. He’s in a PERFECT spot. I will be able to walk in the creek all the way to him. And he flew up ALONE!!
My biggest Osceola was with a bear grizzly in 2004. This guy will be my biggest eastern if I can get him within range. 🤞🏻
-
Good luck!!!!!

-
Shoot straight.
:campfire:
-
I’ve had this bird within 60, 50, 40 yards. Roosted him just about every night. Another good ole college try tomorrow.
I’m on call next week and won’t be able to hunt. 👎🏻

Garrett Polk Please send me your address. :archer2:

I came in from turkey hunting this morning and Faith had showed up and my first impressions are nothing but excellent! Shot a few arrows from it and it shoots where I'm looking. I've been turkey hunting with a 48# 58" recurve so the change to shooting Faith should go smoothly and hopefully can bag a bird with it. More to come.
-
Thank you guys very much for participating!
Good luck hunting Randy!
-
Randy had the right handed with him during the hog hunt and I had the pleasure of shooting it. Despite being right handed I will say this was among the best longbows I have shot.
-
Well, it's been tough sledding, birds are social distancing don't gobble after 8:30 or so. I took faith out to our archery range and put her through the paces and she performed beautifully. Close shots and long shots she performs, seems to have good cast for long shots, shooting GT400's 30 3/4 inch with a 30" draw, no stacking! I'll try to post a couple pictures from hunting. Stay after 'em , Randy! Who'd have thought the longbeards would be so persnickety about observing social distancing? Jakes, too. Keeping the Faith is tough when the toms don't play along. That's why I elected to opt for a non-turkey season month this time around...I've carried Faith through two Aprils and all we got close to were hens. Posting pics of your set up at least gives the rest of us something to keep us motivated while we're looking for mushrooms .

Well, if you can't seem to call them in Ambush them. Today I went to a spot where I shot one at 5PM the last day of season. It's on a steep hill with dust bowls a plenty, I've never had a gobbler come to dust but hens are there regularly. I got there about 10 and had to leave at 2, about 1 I called softly and at 1:30 this hen came in.. no gobbler! The bowl is in is about 6 yards away, the blind is in the only semi level spot on the hill and it's still about 45 degrees. Maybe tomorrow!
-
Should of proof read my last post. The bird I shot at 5PM was 2 years ago.
-
Maybe tomorrow a lonely Tom will show up.
Thanks for the update Randy
-
Be thankful you have a place to hunt and keep after them.
:coffee: :campfire:
-
Today I tried another ambush point, an open gate on a fence line. I thought I'd try decoys again and it didn't matter as no gobblers showed just a couple of hens. I had gobbling before light until about 6 and then again at 9 and ten but nothing showed. Times running out and every morning gets earlier! Terry Green where is Faith going? I didn't see anyone's name for June on the list. Please let me know, Thanks
-
For some reason My posts aren't taking, I'll try one picture
-
Must grow the birds big there. Congratuations.

He was 20# 10 1/4 beard 1 1/4 spurs I'd guess a 3 1/2 year old bird

Congrats!

OK, I'll try again to post. The morning of the 29th I went to a new place, the landowner told me not to expect much as He and his wife weren't seeing any birds regularly. I called in my normal fashion and heard one gobble way way away. About 6 I saw a jake on top of hill to the south of me, then 3 hens came in to the decoys and the jake came into my jake. I drew and M...issed.
-
That post worked so here goes. After the jake ran off I was dumb founded as to the miss! 10 yds! I sat back in the chair and stewed for a few minutes, I decided to call some more to see if they would come back but it wasn't to be. At 6:55 out of nowhere from the north this gobbler comes in and starts beating up my jake. I slowly put an arrow on the string and drew and let down about 5 times before he cleared the decoy. The snuffer took him off his feet but he was up and running almost immediately and then flew down into a large valley.
-
I waited 1/2 hr and then headed into the valley figuring if he locked up he could go
along ways it was looking a needle in a haystack. The landowner saw me and came down to see what was going on and offered to help. We came across 2 fawns in the tall grass before I heard him holler "here he is". It was a great relief! It was then I realized my camera was at home next to the computer! I' post another back yard picture of the bird and "faith."
-
Way to stick with it (no pun intended)!
-
That's getting the job done!

She's coming from Garrett Polk Jimmy. :campfire:

Faith is on it's way to Jim and it should arrive Saturday.

I would like to use Hope in January, 2021. I have a NM javelina tag then and think Hope looks like a killing machine.
-
Can’t wait til October for Hope to be here in MI. Hoping that you guys left some good mojo in her for me.
-
Steve, I just added you to the list on the 1st post on the 1st thread.
-
When I came off the moutian form hunting last night I found hope had arrived. I shot her breifly before work this morning and I think I'm going to love this bow. I hope can get her tuned up quick because I have sure been seeing the deer and elk over the last 4 days of hunting!
-
I think miss Hope has a little story to tell you all. But first I need to get back on the moutian the bulls are starting to talk and I have a big one with my name on it. Be back tomorrow
-
:campfire: :coffee:
-
hello everyone, just a heads up here that Faith is missing in action. I have not received the bow, can some provide tracking info?
-
You cannot beat a JT Archery bow. Super high quality and best performers out there. Here is my new JT Zeus. 55# @27" 64" amo. It's the first 64" Zeus that John has made and as you can see is quite the looker. I also have a 49# Apollo and my son has a 50# 60" Apollo. John makes a fine bow.
-
It has been a pleasure to shoot Hope on my hunt this season. Over the last two weeks we had several encouters with elk and deer. Every trip out with Hope I have seen animals and some were inpressive animals. The first elk I seen with hope was a good "satellite bull" in a wallow. I say satellite bull but on this unit he's still a 300+ bull but I didn't have a limited entry tag! Spikes and cows here for me. Twenty minutes later by pure luck I had a 180" typical buck and two does feed in close. The buck did not give me a shot but just seeing a good buck at 50 yards for 20 minutes is still cool. The conditions have been dry and hot making it hard to get close this season. I would say that I was lucky to see as many animals as I have this hunt concidering that the deer population is low and being in a drought this year. One blind I sat in with Hope I had 9 good 4x4 bucks feed by but still no shot. They just have that nack for staying just barley out of range. I was able to get close on elk almost every day. Even last night I still got pretty close to a herd of elk but it just got dark too quick. They are coming out late with the full moon. It's hard to hike out when they are still bugling. They are not in the full rut yet but are starting to talk.
-
Here is a pic of Hope and I coming out of the wallow system I seen the "satellite bull".

This last Monday night I was heading to a area I wanted to hunt elk when I seen a buck I had pasted up opening weekend. With it being one of the last nights I had planned to hunt with Hope I dicided I would give him a stalk. He was in the edge of some thick timber headed into a meadow. I snuck in down wind of him and started up in the edge of the meadow. Then for some reason he feed back into the timber. I wasn't sure if he had smelled me or not but I slowly work my way in the timber. It was hard to move quite so I just stoped and started looking for movement. The next thing I knew he was walking by at 15 yards! He was quartering away and looking the other direction so I let the arrow lose! The arrow hit where I was looking and he only went a couple of yards before getting his head gear wrapped up on a few small quakie's and going down right in front of me. It was over quick.
-
Over the last few seasons I have let a lot of bucks like this one walk by trying to shoot my nemesis the giant mule deer with traditional gear. It's not about how many inches or giant horns on the wall but more about out smarting a old wise buck. Having Hope in my hand shooting this buck will always remind me on how this buck is a true trophy.
-
Congrats ! now when are u Gona get her in the mail ?
-
I'm Just waiting for a address and it will be off
-
I sent u a pm with it over a week ago...if u didn't get ill send it again
-
Just sent it again
-
Congratulations Jimmy, nice buck!!
-
Congrats on that buck twitchstick!!!!
Bisch
-
That's the way to stay after them, Jimmy! just seeing bucks during this bright moon is a task, and sneaking up on a buck in the dry stuff, that's fine work.
-
Littlebigman, I've got Faith and need to get the address from Terry. Shoots great!! Missed a couple of squirrels but I think it was the shooter!! I didn't get the bow until the 12th so I guess I've been dragging my feet. It is a sweet shooting bow!!
-
Hope made it...she's all tuned up with sure woods in 55/60'S...now it's off to the elk woods for a couple weeks :goldtooth:
-
She does like heavy wood arrows, as I recall. Best of luck to you.

Good hunting durp.

Thanks everyone! Thank you very much for participating in this event for the children at Saint Jude's ! This is definitely a win win for everyone. The stories and the pictures of the adventures are spectacular! If anyone needs anything for Miss Faith or Hope please don't hesitate to let me know.

The UPS man dropped off Faith today. I opened up the package as soon as it arrived. She is one gorgeous looking bow.
After my initial looking over of the bow, I thought it was time to string it up and take it outside. A grabbed a Day Six .400 arrow and took a few preliminary shots.
A few minutes in to shooting and the arrow was going where I was looking. I'm confident this bow will perform well when I take it hunting for whitetails.

You and I may have to get together for a day hunt when hope is here in GR for October. Been so busy since the Kalamazoo show when we talked that I haven’t had a chance to take you up on your invite to the shop.
-
Cody that sounds like a great idea. Can’t wait to hear about your adventures!
Thanks for signing up too

Two weeks of elk hunting with hope didn't put any elk meat in the freezer because we kept getting interrupted by deer and turkey hunts...no deer were harmed either but we sure had fun trying...turkeys. We're another story...pic to follow.
As far as the bow she's awsome...the only thing I can add to what others have said is the grip is perfect for my aging hands...the heel is the best I've had the pleasure to shoot.
Shot a few shafts through the crony and was impressed with the findings
Hope...560gn arrow at 168-170 fps...she's a 50lber
Mine...550gn arrow at 172-174 fps...its 54lbs @ 28
Thanks again to JT for do this for the kids!!!

Don’s turkey double
Doesn’t surprise me...I’ve seen him shoot :archer2:
Well done Don!
Some nice fletchings for next springs bear hunt 👍🏽

Congrats on those birds!!!!

Well done on the turkeys!

Congratulations to Jimmy and Don!

Hope is safe and sound here in Michigan. Gonna string her up and fling some arrows shortly.
-
Nice work on those birds.
Hope is a shooter!

John is one hell of a guy for donating these bows , I told him about this while we were elk hunting and he just jumped all over it. As happens life gets in the way of things and I haven’t been around here much but believe I’m back in the mix now. As you guys have seen over the last 16 pages of this thread he makes an outstanding bow and is a hoot in hunting camp. Anyway good luck to all....
Thanks again John....

I'm looking forward to a ride with one in December. I'll hold bbn onto abdoe tag in anticipation of our time together.
-
David Ogles please pm me your address. Thanks.
-
Cody, PM sent.
-
Well, I couldn't get any deer with Faith but it was a pleasure and honor to shoot. I wish luck good to the next recipient. Now she's off to Alaska for her next adventure.
-
Hope is on her way to Mr. Ogles. Unfortunately did not get to hunt with her due to it being a bit much for my shoulder now that it’s cold. That being said she was a joy to shoot. I just wish I had been able to do more justice with her.
-
That's some beauties right there. Looks like they are some serious "harvesters" :bigsmyl:
-
It's a good write up as well as a good buck Twitchstick. Very well done.
-
Hope showed up yesterday. The wife and I were leaving to go hunt and I looked on the front porch before driving off and there she was. Hopefully will get a window today between the rains to get her out and shoot her. More to come.
David
-
The Faith bow showed up night before last, well packaged. Beautiful bow. And I don't think there's a nick on it.
Likely get out Sunday for snowshoe hares with a beagle and my little boy. Hoping to get into some ptarmigan as well as some other bunny trips this month.
-
Had a short window to shoot Hope Thursday due to rain. I have some compressed cedar arrows that she liked tipped with Ace 160 grain heads. Didn't hunt Thursday evening due to the rain.
Went Friday morning and evening with no sightings. Didn't hunt this morning, have some things to get done around the house. We'll be going this evening.
The bow shoots great. It's lighter poundage than I have been shooting but, didn't have any trouble getting off the string like I thought I might.
Here's a picture of her hanging out yesterday morning. If I can get this picture thing to work.
David
-
Good luck guys!!!!

Hope will be here before I know it. Guess I should work up some arrows before she gets here.

Little update. Been 4 times since last post. Saw lone bucks on 3 of the sits. First 2 were out of bow range. Yesterday I went for an all day sit. Bumped a deer in the dark as I got to my stand. Got settled in a little after 6:00. Had about 45 minutes till legal light. Just enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Around 8:00 I hear one walking to my right. It was a spike buck. I got Hope off the hanger and watched him procede up the hill going away from me. I figured I'd get a picture of him and as I got my phone he turned and walked straight at me. I put the phone away and got ready. He was in bow range for 5 minutes or more but never gave me a good shot. Oh well, that's hunting.
Going this evening and see what happens. Taking Hope to Tennessee in few days to hunt down there.
David
-
Great to see everyone enjoying Hope and Faith. :archer:
-
Got the Faith bow out today, but no bunnies offered any shots. I had driven north aways, and it is about 3 years now since the peak, numbers way down.
I may try South of me next. They are on the upswing there, but still likely 2 or 3 years until they peak. We'll see.
Really like the bow. Shot a few stumps etc and surprised myself when I dead centered a pencil thick sapling.

Still hunting with Hope. Back in Indiana now. Saw one deer from the stand in Tennessee. Did get a shot and shot low. Took hair off the brisket. Was really bummed out. The deer will survive but my pride I don't know. :).
I'll just keep on keeping on. Going this evening. Hunted all day yesterday and didn't see a deer.
David
-
Sorry bout the miss but ur pride will survive :)...Keep trying for the kids !
-
Been out with Hope 5 times since getting back from Tennessee. No deer seen from the stand. It's been really weird this year. Saw alot of deer before I got Hope and since then I've saw 3 here at home and 1 in Tennessee. I guess that's why they call it hunting. :) Going to ship her next week to GCook so maybe he can do some good with her.
David
-
Sent Hope to Texas a little while ago. Took her out two more times since the last post. Didn't see any deer. I want to thank John for doing the Hope and Faith bows for the pass around. Wish I could have connected with her but, wasn't meant to be.
Good luck with her to the next people getting her. I enjoyed having the bow for a month.
David
-
Thanx David I'll be looking for her. I have some arrows made up that should work for her. If so I'll take her out to the ranch after Thanksgiving and see if I can make something bleed.
I "Hope" I don't disappoint. 🤣
-
Well Hope arrived in good shape yesterday evening but I didn't pull her out until this morning. After church I strung her up and tried out the arrows I set up in anticipation of her arrival. As usual the 3Rivers calculator proved good and the arrows flew like darts. However they didn't fly where I was looking. Which for me, with bows only cut to center, has been normal. So with a little tweak of the BH and getting use to the sight picture I finally got some consistent groups at 12 to 14 yards. Which for me is my hunt range and my set ups reflect that so I'm going to sock her back up and carry her to the ranch this evening. Maybe I can draw a little blood. I have a couple of fat doe coming around I have not been shooting just for this opportunity so I'm hoping I can make it happen.
-
Good luck Gary!!!!!!

I just mailed it to the next man up.
I shot it quite a bit and couldn't get where I felt confident with it. Most likely due to my unorthodox anchor point.
I took a close shot on a pig but the bow was long enough to catch the roof of the blind if I wasn't careful and I wasn't. 😟
However the last three weeks my shooting has been limited due to a nasty slice to the bone on my index finger of my string hand. Made worse by being on the knuckle. So I figured I'd get it mailed before the crazy Christmas rush.
It's got excellent cast and it quiet. I was impressed with that part for sure. But I tend to struggle with bows not cut past center.
However someone will get a great bow in the auction. I appreciate the opportunity.
-
My javelina hunt with Hope could be termed "target poor", as in 5 days I did not see any. I have enjoyed shooting the bow. Right from the first arrow we clicked and I was sure we would get a pig if we found one. I found she shoots quick and quiet, and has good looks. The carbon limbs are attractive. I appreciate the opportunity to have her for a month. I notice no one else is signed up. If you want to have her for a month, respond to this forum and Terry can add you to the monthly list. Thank you, J T Traditional.
-
Steve, where did you hunt?
-
In the Gila NF (NM) adjacent to the Gila Wilderness. Terry, it would be beneficial to me if you would post several photos of javelina you guys shoot in Texas as I forget what they look like. I wanted to go on your hunt very much, but the covid issue steered me away. Hope you have a great time and find the area "target rich".

I procrastinated too long and GD took May. So I will put in for May 2021, our turkey season.
-
Ha Brian I hope your turkey hunt goes well...I killed two birds with one shot with her :dunno: ...I liked the bow so much I ordered one
-
I still can’t thank all of you enough for your participation with Miss Hope and Faith!
I would donate bows again anytime for Tradgang/Saint Jude.
Keep signing up folks.

Folks, Miss Hope is available this month, March and April, and seems spoken for in May. Getting near the end to try out Ms Hope. Terry, if you read this, I plan to send her to TooManyHobbies (per his request dated Jan. 23) in a week or two unless I hear differently from you. Thanks for the test drive opportunity.
-
Sounds great... keep them busy till the auction... they are great bows for sure. I really enjoyed Hope last year I TX... those 2 bunnies didn't stand a chance. She shoots sweet and mean.
Who ever wins these two in the auction are gonna get some dandies...
-
Btw... wish Hope was in TX last week as well. Great shooting bows for sure!
-
Woohoo, Miss Hope arrived this morning. I dared not open the tube until I got a couple customer stops done. After lunch, I opened her up.
Very nice bow, pretty and light.
I strung her up and grabbed a 628 gr. woodie (incl. 125fp) from my recurve. First shot at 10 yards missed high and right. I had to search for it in the grass. lol. 2nd shot was also high and right. I was hoping my 'curve arrows would cooperate, but it looks like they want to be shot just like on my 'curve. 3rd shot I rotated the cock feather in, and right on. I moved back to 15, then 20, and shot 8-10 more.
Then I grabbed 634 gr. woodie from my longbow. Nock was VERY loose, but otherwise shot great. All shots with this arrow would be "deer" kills, but my goal is a spring turkey, so I'll have to tighten them up just a little, but not much.
I'll feel it out a bit before I start shooting BH's.
In anticipation of getting her, I re-read through the entire thread. My count, this bow has
3 Whitetails
1 Mule deer
3 Turkeys
2 Rabbits and
1 Squirrel.
I hope all that mojo followed her to me. I won't be picky, any bird (tom or jake) that gives me an opportunity, I'll do my best to take home.
-
Get that mojo working, Brian!
-
Have fun!!! They are great bows.

Is someone babysitting Hope for April yet?

Is someone babysitting Hope for April yet?
No, jump on it...I'll email the last guy that had it to contact you....
-
Alright, cool! I may have a chance to add a turkey to its tally this spring;)
-
I received HOPE today and spent a little time with her. I was amazed by her smoothness, quietness, and accuracy. My other bow is 10" shorter and HOPE was just a pleasure to experience. Fortunately, my 29" 400 Victory RIP's with 300 grains up front fly very well. Better than out of my other bow, in fact. When she arrived, I immediately gave her string a good waxing and checked the brace height which is right under 7.5". I'm curious who is on the list to receive HOPE for May?
-
I should also mention that I really enjoy the grip and the craftsmanship is exquisite. HOPE looks as good as she shoots.

I hope you get a big Tom turkey! Thanks for your feedback and thank you for you participation in the St Jude bow pass around!

Yeah Hart, good luck with it. I probably wouldn't have been able to hunt with it more than a couple times anyway. :saywhat:

Miss Hope and Faith have been listed on the St Jude 2021 Auction. So, those of you have have those two beauties, hold onto them till its time to ship them to the winner.
These two have been traveling a year and a half and have some great stories for sure.
