A new model?
-
Better than working on a skidder outside today!!
-
You got to show us more than that
-
I got better pichers n that on my phone from the ole boy this morning:)
-
Then I sent him my pichers, cause it's winter here in Pa too:)
Some super fine 1/4 sawn Missouri Osage and Pa red elm core lam and Florida Bamboo....
And Jerry working on his bow.
-
Roy, how come your splices are crooked like that?
-
cuse his eye's are crossed
them hillbillys can't see nuffin
-
Called Z splice..

-
ZZTop splice. :bigsmyl:
-
Roy, only makes sense to me if you did not cut them in the first place you would not have to splice. :knothead: :biglaugh:
-
LOL, but I didn't cut em:)
:wavey:
-
I'm gonna build a new limb design for my TD longbow to see about free horsepower. If it makes it shoot not as well as the original, they will be scrapped!
-
Called Z splice..
Yeah, but why are the splices cut at that angle instead of uniformly?
Ya gotta bear with us folks that don't use that orange wood that's too short!
-
Winter is here
it's going down to 19* tonight in North Mississippi
-
Free horsepower. Hmm... I’m interested.
-
Free hp is good if controllable!! LOL
19 Max? Is that all you can do? Gonna be 9 here...:)
-
Uh never mind...
-
Free hp is good if controllable!! LOL
19 Max? Is that all you can do? Gonna be 9 here...:)
Yeah Yeah Yeah
and you guy's don't know what hot is
-
Yeah I know . I wouldn’t make it thru the 8 months of summer there...
-
It’s two degrees here right now, high tomorrow of 12, low tomorrow night of below zero(record breaking col for this time of year. And we have a dusting of snow with another couple inches on Wednesday. So much for global warming!
-
What's snow?
-
Yeah, but why are the splices cut at that angle instead of uniformly?
Ya gotta bear with us folks that don't use that orange wood that's too short!
You glass guys sniffed too much of that EA-40 and glass dust stuff over the years.
-
I like the pictures, very cool bow on it's way.
-
Roy that looks like plywood in the center :bigsmyl:
Let see the whole profile there Kenny I got an idea.
-
ZZTop splice. :bigsmyl:
Bue we will know for sure if it got a long bushy beard later. :biglaugh:
-

Free horsepower theory ?? Looks like quite a bit of reflex. What taper you firgure on using?
-
:coffee: :coffee:
-
It must be to COLD in there shops Stic
-
Roy, how come your splices are crooked like that?
Crooked Stics  :bigsmyl:
-
Nock it off..
I'm getting better..

-
That Coors is what did it
-
It's 57 in my shop, but I ain't in it... Too much work, not nuff huntin is causin me to slack...
Stic, free hp is hoped for by using added reflex , a .002 taper, no tip wedge ,it's all experimental or at least mental...
-
Ah knock it off pee wee..
Yer sounden like Shreddy boy....
-
Well pops, I reckon you don’t glue in any reflex in those grass and lumber bombs?
Shouldn’t you be in bed ? ? LOL
-
:biglaugh:
-
"Grass and Lumber Bombs"... Now that's funny....
-
More reflex lessens the need for a tip wedge. The >002 should smooth out FDC reading . Me thinks it will work.
I dont think the Coors did it Kool Aid got more kick. :bigsmyl:
-
:biglaugh:
-
:biglaugh:
-
Well pops, I reckon you don’t glue in any reflex in those grass and lumber bombs?
Kenny... Don't you mean, "Gwass and Wumber Bombs"...
-
All rite Shreddy that's a nuff, gona haf to open a can of wupass
-
Who is cracking up?
-
Something is definitely Cracked but it aint the Riser... :wavey:
-
I know we hijacked this tread but hey Kenny any updates. :bigsmyl:
-
LOL , it warmed up enough to start another project of concrete...
-
Well that will be too much mass weight :biglaugh:
-
So it’s snowin and 30-40 mph wind this morning(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191201/7fee679d6f7018d441f940d70a1c68f6.jpg)

Nice looks good , did you use the same wedge as the standard ?
-
Purdy nice bud..
-
 :campfire: :coffee:
-
Looking good Kenny. That’s a fair amount of reflex!
-
Oooo that is a lot of reflex. Gonna be interesting. Seeing them together I think the new one may be floppy. But I could be wrong. Like I said before if it is move the bolt hole back and the string groove toward the butt same distance. I have found not starting the reflex until about mid limb keeps them from being floppy and results in better feel after the shot.
-
Yup on lot of reflex causing headaches.
But ole pap pap kin handle it.
-
Be interesting I think it will add some HP when he puts it on the Dyno :cheesy:
-
Yes sir Roy and you know what they say about a head like that
-
We had to come back to Alaska together out of the cold weather, 36* here!! haha
-
Hmmmm, that’s a lotta reflex ...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191216/9f44fd109168d0904c6f5a37819300af.jpg)

-
.002 no superlam
-
Looks wicket to me
-
Does look a bit wicked. Weight is 5 over so about perfect, top limb needs trimmed a bit.

Looking good Kenny. First thoughts after your shot? 😉
-
I like the strung profile.
How do these limbs feel ?
-
How long to I have to grow my beard before I get to see a full draw pic
-
Well, my first thought after the first shot is crap, I gotta get this bow's limbs back on and go huntin!!
No deer , only a big bobcat , which I will remember later on...
Ritchie, you better get some of those little ties to put in your beard! Huntin is on til jan 15 :)
-
I got zip ties thell work :biglaugh:
-
Ritchie, are they Pink zip ties?
-
They can be Why ? You looking for a Date ? :o

It's hunting season yet...
-
I know Im just razing him
-
Man, you must have used some rogain on that. Food in it too!!
We have a couple days work to finish the project and I'll get the bow worked on mid day during season... LOL
-
Phew hate to see that beard get caught in a bow string.
-
Or a sander!! LOL
-
Or a Kenworth steering wheel
-
At least with the KW you can just go straight and run over stuff, the sander is gonna cost ya some hide when it pulls ya in!!
-
I do that any way with the KW with out a beard too...lol
-
Back at it a bit while raining...

Looking good. I see some black and pink actionwood in the background You making Elroy a bow. :bigsmyl:
-
Looking good Kenny ,that action wood has to much black in it for Roy :bigsmyl:
-
Man Roy, that's some good looking bow material you got there!! Should turn out beautiful!!
-
Back to huntin tomorrow but gonna be real windy in a day or two, so should finish tiller and tips and possibly speed check against the original limbs. Think its gonna be a few lbs. lighter but we can get the general idea...
-
So Kenny how did those new limbs do??
-
Not done yet, don't wanna take my hunting limbs off my riser...
-
:coffee: alrighty then
-
As soon as my buddy's bow is done... and bow season is over...
-
Oh just send them to me and I’ll put them on my riser.
-
Actually started cleaning up the overlays today! LOL
-
Working on this project today, tillered out at 48@28, think that’s what my other limbs are also so will be a good comparison test .

Gonna run some chrono numbers in a bit
-
On your FD profile it looks like your limbs working all the way up and still holding the string angle bet that bow shoots great with heavy arrows I like it
-
Thanks Ritchie!
Here are the chrony numbers for both sets of limbs...
64" TD longbow
Original limbs with .003 total taper including superlam and 1" less reflex
48.09# @ 28" with a 531 grain arrow (my hunting arrow) 11.04 GPP -- 173 FPS
New limbs with .002 taper , no superlam but with 1" more reflex
48.00 @ 28" with same 531 grn arrow 11.06 GPP -- 177 FPS
NOTES:
New limbs have no finish sprayed on them
New limbs have wider tips
Shot off shooting machine
First impression is new limbs are a bit quieter
-
BTW here is the strung profile in the original...

Very nice looks like you hit the sweet spot on those Kenny I'm in ,looks like you could easily get a few more inches of draw on the 64" , I'm going to try one in spring , got busier this winter then in the last decade ! No time for bows !
-
Not too bad a gain there Kenny. Every little bit helps---optimizing :clapper: Betting with .002 taper and include the superlam even a bit more.
-
Looking good Kenny!
How far are the string grooves in front of the handle on those new limbs?
-
Thats looking great Kenny. Nice lookin bow

-
Thanks guys!
Brad , I didn’t check that today , been too long laying there to remember. Will try to check it!
-
Can you tell it’s faster without machine?
You’re awful! All I need is another form to keep up with. 😂
-
I'm not sensitive nuff to tell 4 fps, but it may be a little quieter with the added preload and slightly stiffer limbs with the less taper.
I'm learning... LOL
-
BTW, this was off a shooting machine so fingers release will be slower by a few FPS...
-
Hey Kenny you been shooting this bow any more do you have any pro's cons on the new limbs ?
-
Not yet, I thought being off work was gonna free up a bunch of time but haven't seen any of that yet. LOL
-
I know the feeling Bro !
-
Well I got a 12 degree riser or two. :bigsmyl:
