Went out to scout and stump shoot and mostly just enjoy myself on my weekend off. Got out at sunrise to scout along a long horizontal bench midway up a high, steep slope.
Tons of tracked up trails down below but no fresh sign anywhere up on the bench.
HOWEVER, I did find subtle sign up there of grazing from this past summer on the striped maple saplings, along with a few barely discernable trails and BIG RUBS everywhere!!!
Judging by the amount of grazing (practically zilch) compared to areas I know are inhabited by family groups of does, I came to the conclusion that there was only one deer making use of the area when it was still green.
Should have got around to going up there early October! Might be a good buck next year though if he survives the upcoming gun season. Too bad my tag is already filled.

Wow, what a beautiful place to hunt or walk about.

Thanks. I love it when the leaves come off the trees. And thank god for public land. I don't know what I'd do without it.

Sir is that a Kentuckian longbow in the picture??? Just curious
-
It sure is! Love it and would love to find another one. It's a take down (brass sleeve). Have never owned a sweeter shooting bow.

Mine is 60 inch take down with brass also, and is #72, I also have a one piece 64 inch at #68... I love them both.. wish I could find one between #45 an #50.... Im having a hard time shooting them now...

This one is right about 50#. I'd trade you except it's so beat up from climbing up and down these hills during early bear season. Gets a new scratch every week, but I love it, I've taken a couple deer with it, a few squirrels, and passed up 3 black bears out on the mountain in the background of that picture (bit too small).
