Title: Master Crester in action
Post by: dakota tim on April 10, 2008, 03:02:00 PM
Here's my 13 year old cresting his first dozen.  He is a natural & much better than me!  He came up with the pattern, colors & feather colors on his own too.

He wants me to get a Phillips crester so he can really show up the old man.  It seems like a lot of money though so I don't know.  I'd like some feedback from those that use one.

You must be proud. Very nice looking crest.

I have a Phillips and to me it is worth the money. Over years of use it has paid for itself already. I would say go for it. I think your boy would agree.

Your son is 13 and he knows what a Phillips crester is!  It would be wise to get him one.  No doubt he has a good arrow building future in front of him.

Hey that's cool.  Steady hands is what it takes.  Great pic!....Van

Thanks guys.  I don't have steady hands or the patience to crest very well.

Right now he's really chompin' at the bit to go turkey hunting.  I lost my Treadway to him last August.  He shot it and refused to give it back. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Maybe he will sharpen broadheads better than me too!

Id bet he'll still have that Phillips Pop bought him when he was a kid long after your dead.

Here's a quick pic of what he came up with.  I'll probably get the crester.  He used tape instead of glue for the feathers which made mom happy.

What would he charge for a dozen if I provide the shafts?

Claypipe,
Just think about that for a moment. You are asking a 13 year old boy to take something that he obviously enjoys doing and turn it into work. Aren't you afraid that some may see that as taking advantage of a child?

Find something that you enjoy and you'll never work a day in your life......LOL Nice "job" on the arrow.

Claypipe, brings up a good point, maybe he can do some cresting work for a few dollars to help cover the cost of a new crester, and as dosbow said, if he enjoys doing it, then its not really work at all. Either way, I'd definitely encourage him to continue,he's off to a great start, and does very nice work. Tim

It is good to see a 21st Century craftsman with a fine hand and still using the Testors silver paint we all used to finish our model airplanes fifty years ago on kitchen tables covered with newspapers.

Nice job!
