Title: POP!
Post by: JWheel on October 20, 2019, 04:25:03 PM
Hey guys...I know I've read this somewhere on the site buuuuut here goes. I recently made a glass bow with a bamboo core with stable Kor strip and black walnut/maple vaneers. You may recognize it...

So right before I finish coated it I strung it and heard a slight SNAP!...After inspection I couldn't find any cracks so I went ahead....I've shot it many many times without incident. Then today I strung it to go shoot a bit and faint SNAP! same sound...sooo I inspected again and didnt find any cracks...shot maybe 20 arrows through it...no problems.

Anyone ever had this kind of experience and did it turn out good or bad?... :bigsmyl:

Are you sure that your string was seated properly???  If it wasn't it could have popped in place and made that sound...

   Nice looking bow...

Has your fade tiller changed any at all? I have found the the Stable core needs plenty of glue Could be an air bubble there. but if the tiller is ok maybe nothing is giving up.

Good point Stic...   If your tiller is changing something is giving...

Rub a cotton ball all over the bow's surface. If there is a crack or splinter it will snag the cotton ball fibers.

Shredd and Pat nailed my thoughts.

If it only happens on the first draw after stringing....then the string probably wasn’t seated. But I’d also do the Cotten ball test like Pat suggests to make sure fibers aren’t lifting in the glass.

I bet it's the string going into the groove too.  I had that happen the first time I drew back a snakey osage bow.  I thought it was toast.

So I have been out for a while and here and there I get back in to read a few posts. After going through this one I only had one thought....

Where is the follow up with the exciting conclusion?   :coffee:

Delayed response....Conclusion is I keep shooting it with no issues...haven't heard it again. I did re work the string grooves prior to the pop so they are highly suspect. For now it is still a one piece
