Title: A Bow Bank?
Post by: nnaiden on April 09, 2008, 11:52:00 PM
Children's bows. Old bows. Light bows. Left-handed bows...we all have them; bows that are no longer used but that are still in the house. Many children, and youth need them, they outgrow their bows, or have no money to try to get one in the first place, or young adults can't afford a bow for a spouse or partner...

Meanwhile we all have bows we aren't likely to sell but haven't gotten rid of either. I benefited from such kindness when I did therapy years ago - the word got out and I got bows in the mail for months. I still use all these bows with children in treatment, children who are traumatized and have given many away to kids who were archery crazy and poor as churchmice.

What if there were a "bow bank" - an online connection where folks needing bows for kids could connect with folks who had bows to share? What if? Could it work? With one kid we managed to get a left handed bow shipped up from Arizona so he could shoot - we traded for another bow I had...everyone was happy and the kid, 18 now, had his life change a little as a result.

Could it be done? How? Ideas? It would be so very good...

Outstanding idea!  Chat with our resident in-house Santa Claus -- Vermonster.  He's got something very similar to what you described.

Strange that this post came up when it did.
Just heard from the therapy place that one of my grandsons has to go to.He had a brain tumor removed at 18 mos. old. When they removed it,it messed
up his ability to use his right arm like he should.
We have tried ererything to get him to use it.Finally
I asked them about archery so they got a bow for therapy and started using it. It is improving his strength and hand coordination. Now I have to find one to fit him.
P.S. He is now 12 and doing well other than this problem

oldskool, enter him in this months bow giveaway. Is he right or left handed? How many pounds can handle, etc?

email me his particulars at dmjknipes@verizon.net and we'll see what we can do for him.

If anyone has youth equipment that needs a home, contact me and I'll put you in touch with worthy causes. There is a lot more need than resource at this point.
