Work has been ridiculously busy this year, so jumped at the first chance to head up north this season and hit the woods. After not hunting with the recurve the last few years, I was just a bit excited to head out.
Drove up the morning of Thursday the 3rd, and finally after arriving up there, the rain settled down to a drizzling mist, then finally quit. Thought that with the weather settling, they might be moving, so headed to one of my favorite stands for an afternoon hunt. Got in the stand early, and shortly after settling in, starting seeing movement.
Had a small buck wander through (4 point), and a little while after him was a small six. As we're in the APR zone in Michigan, the 6 point was technically legal, but was not what I was looking for - I had a doe permit burning a hole in my pocket.

At about 6, caught some movement to the west, and saw a group of 8 does and little ones headed down the runway in front of me. The oldest and biggest doe thought something might be up, so she held back at about 30 yards and decided to wait and see. With her eyes on the group, I didn't dare make a move as most of the group slowly made their way past. Had one doe picked out, but she decided to come closer to the stand and ended up facing me. After a few minutes, the wise old doe decided all was okay, and decided to continue on. As she walked into an opening and stopped, the thoughts of shooting the other doe dissipated, and I drew down on the oldest doe at about 12 yards.
As soon as I hit anchor, arrow was on it's way - saw it zip right through the boiler room with a complete passthrough. Watched her run to the edge of the swamp and disappear.
Got down at last light and checked the arrow:

Backed out and waited until dark before gathering up the rest of the family for the tracking job. Unfortunately she went into the tall swamp grass, but as she was coughing out blood it made the tracking fairly easy. After a little over 100 yards, she was piled up.
