62" NTN Osage R/D longbow. So fr so good. At low brace now and a ways to go before I reach target draw weight and draw length. Lower limb is still way stiff but I will tend to it first when I get a chance.
-
Nice profile, keep on keeping on.
-
Looking good so far. I’m looking forward to checking in on your progress.

Looking nice..

I got to work on this bow this evening for a while. Got the bottom limb bending some more using the tillering gizmo. Looks to me that the right limb is stiff mid limb. Its pulls 47 at 20" now and my draw is 27". It seems to be on track.
-
Yup you are right about right limb.
-
I agree about the right limb.
Also, holding a selfbow at a static length can be detrimental.
-
Done very quickly as I was flexing limbs then let down.
-
I didn't notice the rope before. My bad. :bigsmyl:

Worked on it again tonight. Lower limb is still stiff. I measured the bow again and discovered that the top limb is 32.5" and the lower is 30.0' from the shelf. It is pulling 52lbs at 22' now. My question is should I shorten the top limb or scrape the bottom limb more?
The pics aren't that great, sorry.
-
I'd scrape the right limb from mid limb to get it bending more.
The limbs start at the bottom of the fades and not at the shelf.
-
Good point Pat. Are you talking about the limb that is on the right in top pic where it is braced?
-
The bottom pic, Jim.
-
That is the top limb which at brace is a lot more bendy than the lower limb. After scraping the top limb to get it bending more the bottom limb is stiff again and the tiller is off. I am still at over 50lbs at 22" so I have a ways to go to hit weight.
-
So I'm thinking get the stiff spot out of the upper limb then scrape the bottom limb full length to get the tiller back. Thoughts?
-
That is a good idea Jim.
-
That sounds good, Jim.
Tiller at full draw is more critical than at brace.

Tiller at full draw is more critical than at brace.
Exactly....
A few of my bows will have the top limb flatter and bottom limb with a nice bend at brace.
I tiller for equal limb timing and let the brace profile be what it is...
-
Did some more work on it yesterday. It pulls 60lbs @26" right now. After the finishing touches on tiller and sanding it should be close to that at 27" which is my draw length.
-
Damn Jim, looks like you might have nailed it! The unbraced and braced pics look real good from here.
Nice job
-
Thanks!

Good looking bow , razor. Nice work!

Looks very nice..

That looks great
Love how it holds just the slightest bit of reflex at brace.
-
Thanks guys. Shot my spine test arrows through it today. It seems to like a 29.5"45-50 spine cedar. Its pulling58 at 26" now. The outer 1/3 s are still a bit stiff.
-
Weight update. It seems it takes my scale to measure the complete weight being measured. I weighted this bow again and noticed that the numbers were still climbing. My original measurement was way off. I pulled it to 27" and waited until the weight shown stabilized. 64lbs at 27". Or 65 at 28" I would assume.
-
that is a very nicely done bow, you did a fine job on that!
-
Looks nice! What are the limb widths on your bow.
-
About 1.750".

I agree about the right limb.

I didn’t notice the rope either but am glad the point was made as I wasn’t aware of this. So do you recommend while examining tiller it be done quickly several times versus say 10 seconds?
-
Fine stick by the way!
-
pull it to full draw (or what ever inches you are pulling to) and let it back down after a second while shooting a video and go back and pause it for review.
