I'm pretty pumped about it.  Not so excited about the heat, but I'll still be hunting Sunday evening.  I've got a particular buck in mind that I'm going after right away if the wind cooperates.

I'm ready to hunt but will wait for some cooler weather. Hunting from the ground this year so it'll be different.

The older I get, the less I like two things - 1. really hot weather and 2. really cold weather. I think I'll wait until the temps are a little more autumn-like. Good luck to all those that dare to venture out.

Dan, I don't know if you heard yet or not but Hunter Morgan already killed a dandy buck first thing this morning!

I debated all day yesterday about whether to hunt this morning or not behind the house. It was almost 70 when I got up this morning so I decided to pass.

I'm going to Dad's next weekend to see if I can thin his doe herd. Shannon County deer just taste better for some reason!

I can't hunt by a calendar, I have to have some weather that feels like deer hunting weather.  C'mon fall!

It was opening day last Sunday so I ventured out for a couple hours. Saw 3 raccoons and a couple squirrels. It’s gonna be a little cooler this weekend with chance of rain, so I’ll get out some. I’m not seeing any white oak acorns around here so I have to figure out patterns yet.

im not seeing any on white oaks either, but lots on red oaks. as soon as I climbed my tree last sunday had a button buck come in and hang around then bedded about 15 yards away. he stood up and watched me climb down. I got tired of waitng for him to leave.

The storms dropped the temps here down to the 70’s last night so I was out.  Quite a few deer were moving.  The ones I saw were feeding on cool season grasses and beans.

I'll be heading out to hunt this evening and every day until I have to work again next Thursday. My little brother was able to start off the year with a bang on our farm. He killed a really nice 160" 12 point that we had a bunch of pics of. There is still another good mature buck using the same food source he killed it on, so maybe one of us will get a shot at it.

I've done 4 sits so far and had deer in range every sit.  Morning movement by me seems to slow after about 830 but the first 2 hours have been great.  Seen 3 shooter bucks already but just a little too far away!  I've only done one evening sit but saw 11 deer in the beans and 2 nice bucks.  Looking forward to these storms cooling things off a little bit.

I have not gotten out yet due to the heat and other obligations. Will get out this weekend, next weekend and then have the last week of Oct and the second week of Nov off to do nothing but hunt, eat, adult beverage, sleep and repeat every day. 😀

Sounds like a good time John.  I'll be doing the same from October 28th - November 10th. Can't wait.

It's been super slow here so far. I let loose an arrow on a gobbler this morning, but the arrow had other ideas and went right across the top of him. Oh well, 15 yards is a long ways to shoot anyways.  :biglaugh: If we don't start seeing some more action by tomorrow evening we are packing up and heading to the north part of the state for 3-4 days. Gotta be something better than what we have going on here.

Very nice buck Danny!
Aside from scrapes I can’t say I’ve seen rut activity.  I’ve seen lone does feeding acorns — seen small bucks feeding beans—even seen does and bucks feeding beans together and everyone was minding their own business.  Things should be changing any day now.....

Coyote down! Put a good shot on one earlier this morning and watched him pile up 40 yards away. Nearly pulled off the double but the other one wouldn't hold still long enough.

Fixing to head out for the morning hunt. It'll be my maiden voyage with my waldrop pacseat. From the little bit I've used it, I can see why everybody loves them. I'm hoping for a doe today to round out my season. Good luck to anybody else hunting.

I ended up having a fantastic hunt this morning. Had a group of longbeards come in to a little over 30 yards and hang out for awhile, but that's a bit far for me and I never would've had a shot anyways. As I was watching the turkeys I heard leaves crunching to my left. I slowly look over to see a really nice 8 at 18 yards. He had no clue I was there. I've had several encounters with this buck and would like to see him grow another year, so I passed on the shot. As soon as I decided to not shoot, he walked behind a few small trees and bedded down. I could then see that he had a big infection on the other side of his face. It was slightly bigger than a softball. If I had known this I would've shot him. He might make it, but the more I watched him I could tell he was not feeling well. Hopefully he was just tired and the infection isn't spreading to his brain.

I was very pleased with the pacseat as well. Lightweight, easily adjustable, quiet, fast setup, and unbelievable comfort. I wish I would've gotten one a long time ago. I can see a lot more hunting from the ground in my future.
