Title: Wood Guru's Brazilian Rosewood ?
Post by: MJB on April 08, 2008, 11:14:00 AM
Looking for something close to Brazilian Rosewood. Did a little web search and found that Bolivian Rosewood is a very close match. And often used as a substitute how ever it can be called Morado (sp) or Santos Rosewood which stated not a true rosewood ?

Thanks,
Mike

I'm not sure what your question is, but I have a Border Black Douglas with Santos rosewood in the riser.  Beautiful wood -- it's the wood around the "swoop" in this pic.  Have also seen it used in Schafers IIRC.

knife river,
BEAUTIFUL BOW . Real Brazilian rosewood is almost impossible to get from what I'm told. Due to over harvesting, cities ban. No more coming into the country. B rosewood already in the country if you can find may be sold.  Just looking for wood real close to it that is a member of the rosewood family.

Try looking for Indian Rosewood, that was the next in line when Brazillian started running out.

Nothing will compare to the Brazillian that was cut befor 1950, that stuff was stunning!
