Post by: Jack Denbow on August 11, 2019, 03:35:14 PM: I caught this critter on a trail camera early last Tuesday. I thought bear cub but the tail is not right. I thought maybe cat but the face is not right.
What do you think it is?

Post by: Machino on August 11, 2019, 11:51:38 PM: Even melanistic raccoons have lighter ears, a mask of sort, and faint rings. And I've laid hands on one that I caught in PA a long time ago. You can faintly make out the foot pad on the left leg of the bear. The face looks nothing like a coon as well. But that's like my opinion.

Post by: Jack Denbow on August 12, 2019, 09:19:29 AM: Yep that is the only picture. There are quite a few bears in the area but they have a sixth sense for avoiding cameras and me as well, LOL. I think I am leaning toward a bear cub.
Here is one of the rare pictures of a daylight bear. He is standing in the spot where I shot a deer last fall.

The front leg also doesn't look quite right, and certainly doesn't match the thickness of the back leg if that is indeed a leg. That looks like a very awkward position for a leg to be in.

Post by: KentuckyWolf on August 12, 2019, 06:51:19 PM: To be a bear cub, I think the back leg would have to abnormally long....even then the hip would have to be twisted and it doesn’t look like it, and the other leg would be to short to match (got polio?).

If you blow the pic up...looks like a faint banding pattern on tail (leg?)
