Draw length- 27", draw weight 48-50. Close to center shot. I'm thinking a full length 500 GT traditional to start with. My broadheads will be right at 200 grains. Thoughts?

If you have some arrows, shoot all of them and see what arrows your bow likes.
I see you have been here for a while and thought you may have a good assortment. :dunno:

I have. I only have one 35/55 now called a 500 I guess that bare shafts nock right with a 200 gr field tip and 150 grains of brass weights behind the insert. I'm thinking it is still too stiff. All of my other fletched shafts both carbon and wood are a stiffer spine.

With wood arrows about 10# less than draw weight is a good starting point. Being close to center shot you might start at 5# less with a longer arrow and gradually shorten if needed. Can't help with carbons.

My selfbows shoot poundage plus on spine. My current bow is 44# and likes #47 spine the best, my favorite osage static (that I can't shoot anymore because of neck problems) is 52# and likes a 60# spine the best. The static shoots 161 fps drawn to 26" with a 500 gr arrow.

I think I am going to try some Mike Yancey's hickory shafts. When I get the finishing touches done on the tillering of my 54" Sinew backed bow, shoot it in a little then I will have a final draw weight to start with.
