Hey guys, just got a Bear TD. I was wondering what y’all do to get one hunting ready. I’m running a 8 strand string from quite but deadly. I’ve tried cat whiskers and wool puff balls.
Thanks
Randy

The reasons that make a bow noisy can be several, but I tell you I have 12 Bear TDS of all the ages and all are amongst the quietest bows I ever shoot and there are very fews that I ain’t on my stable.
-
I'd not shoot a skinny string like that first of all.
What grains per pound of arrow are you launching?

Many things can cause this. I will offer some thoughts in the blind. In not necessarily order of importance. 1. Are your arrows tuned to the bow? 2. Have you tried different spacing on your silencers like 1/4 top and 1/3 bottom? 3. Are your arrows of sufficient weight? 4. Have you tried wool wraps on the string ends? Good luck. You can find the combo for a quiet bow.

I’m shooting 600gr arrow at 50 pounds. I’ve been shooting for twenty years and have been able to get all my bows extremely quite. It sounds like it could be coming from limb pockets. Do or can you line the pockets with thin felt?
It’s like a buzz sound like screw is loose.

Hey Elkhunter45, it is tuned and shoots fantastic. I’ve tried moving silencers up and down and all around. I think I’ll try a different string.
Thanks for your help.

I've had to do that with a bow once. I actually used the thin foam rubber pad used for electrical box lids.

How snugly do the limbs fit? Limb vibration against the riser can create noise. You might try a little mole skin on the limb bases.
-
Thanks Orion, I did notice these limbs seemed to not fit as tight as my other limbs. I will try the mole skin. Do you put the mole skin on the limb or the limb pocket?
Thanks for the tip.

Doesn't 't make any difference where you put the mole skin. Riser limb pads or limb butts. They both work.
-
Whats your brace height ? All of mine are quiet at 8.25". I'm using 12 strand D-97.
-
It’s BH is 8.25” and it shoots bare shaft and broad heads Like a laser. I will put quiver on it today. I have noticed that a couple of my bows have gotten quieter with a strap on quiver. I’m going to order a new string from Ten Rings. I will say I have 11 bows and 8 are custom from different makers and this bear TD shoots as good or better than all of them. I hope a different string will help.
Thanks for the help👍

I use thin foam used for packing dishes for moving I get it at the Home Depot where they have moving supplies. I cut a small piece and put it on the socket and slide limb in place. Only draw back is you need a new piece if you take bow down. I also donot use D-97 string material. I have used SBD strings on my Bear TD as well. But these days I have gone to BCY X endless loop strings made by Chad.

Thanks Thomas, who is chad and how do I get in touch with him?

I would like to thank everyone for your help. I put mole skin in limb pockets and it is super quite. I’m sold on bear TD now man they sure do shoot good. I will post pics if I fill my tag in Montana on my elk hunt.
Thanks again
Randy
PS. I’m a happy camper. :notworthy:

It may be the compass you are hearing , i can hear the compass on both of my takedowns at the shot .
-
Blue painters tape on the limb butts where they contact latch base on the riser. Thin and easy to remove if you need to. Once it’s on the limbs you never see it when it put together.
-
I don’t know if they are loud or just have their own sound. I swear I can hear one a hundred yards away on a 3D course.

Awesome! I remember I had one the creaked and wax took it away. Great bows!

I would have Chad at Champion Strings, http://traditionalbowstrings.weebly.com/bowstrings.html
make a padded thicker bowstring. Then try to identify the noise. Are you shooting three under or split?
-
Mole skin in the limb pocket helps 👍🏻👍🏻

I had the same creaking issue (I posted a thread on it here actually).
Some helpful hunters suggested I rub bow wax on the limb connection areas and that worked great.
I find mine quiet with a skinny string.
