Title: Wood arrows 23/64 trapered down 5/16
Post by: trad_bowhunter1965 on July 25, 2019, 02:42:08 PM
I have been using Surewood shafts since I started shooting wood arrows they are 65/60 11/32 tapered down to 5/16. My question is has anyone ever tapered shafts down from 23/64 down to 5/16 ?

I made some last year with a rat tail taper from 23/64 down to between 5/16 and 11/32.  The taper started about 4" behind the point.   They shoot good.  I just finished a  new set of 11/32 parallel and I like them too but Last year's rat tails might be the ones that go hunting!

Yes, I bought a boatload of cheap 23/64 cedar.  I tail taper them to 5/16th and point taper to 11/32.

Ted do you taper the front to 11/32 for your point?

I like a 4” front taper to 11/32” and a 9”-10” rear taper to 5/16”. They fly
great!

I prefer a single 23/64 to 5/16 taper. They fly great and I've never seen a need for anything else.. I do them myself with any number of methods.
