All EB Holcomb bows are drop dead gorgeous, but he has a signature "heel" that he puts on the Kodiak Special reproductions he's done. Anyone have some pics of these?
Dave
-
not sure if this is what you mean......actually this pic is 'hiding' the heel because of the dark back ground. i will post a few more.

Sorry for the studder, I was a little excited.
Joe you are an artist.
-
Joe, please stop posting pics of that 59er.I see it in my dreams often enough and need to get it off my mind. :banghead:
-
Joe;
In your pic #2 that shows the Traditional Bowhunter mag you show the backside of what looks like a '59 Kodiak without the leather grip. What kind of bow is this? Can you show the shelf side?
Thanks,
Dave
-
herk.... my bad, sorry. lol
Dave,
That is my first Holcomb bow. :) It's getting a leather wrap put on right now; just like the originals.

Ahhhhh, the sweetness....
That ebony and bocote bow still ranks as one of my all-time favorites as far as looks go.
-
Hey Guys, does Ed still make these bows and do you all have contact information for him.
Oh yeah, and thanks a lot for starting another obsession for me.
Jack
-
These are absolutely incredible. What kind of wood was used in the '59 remake?
-
Looks like African Wenge ? BEAUTIFUL !!
-
I was told Ed stopped making bows to sell.
All three are technically 59 replicas. The first pic shows a Mcllough Fiftyniner with Ebony riser and Bocote I-Beam. The other is a Holcomb 'hybrid' 59'r with a heel grip. Wenge riser with Purpleheart I-Beam and Purpleheart stripes laminations. The last set of pics is also a Holcomb 59'r, Wenge riser and Birdseye Maple I-Beam.

So, i couldn't stand waiting, so i found Ed's phone number in a past thread and called him today. What a pleasure to talk to. He is currently working on the Wing P2 that was talked about in the earlier thread. He didn't say he was going to make any new bows currently but he didn't say no either. I will let ya know what happens this summer when i talk to him again. Thanks, Jack
-
Joe you can take some awesome pictures for sure! Your pictures make those great looking bows look even better! That McCullough 59er is some bow.
-
Joe;
Can you compare shooting characteristics of the Holcomb and McCullough bows?
thanks,
Dave
-
Realy nice looking bow! Some people are gifted with wood working.
-
If you look closely, Here's what one of Ed's P2 versions can do! Brian Vincent good friend of Ed & myself...Doc

Don't be showing his PII's or you'll have everyone drooling. His PII's are really sweet. He brings a few to Denton Hill every year to show around. He makes a great bow for a plumber.

Shooting differences between the Mcllough and the Holcombs..............
I would say the biggest differnece is the grips. My Mcllough has a very narrow throat. The Holcomb's have a sharp radius throat.
Shooting wise, all three are great performers. They draw very smooth, pretty dead in the hand after string is loosen. I have not fooled around with string material on the Mcllough and thus it is the noisiest. Actually I tried dacron on the Mcllough and the hand shock was pretty significant....but the bow became hush quiet.
They are all stable and accurate. I will give a slight edge to the Mcllough for pointability. The grip on that bow just puts your hand and arm in auto mode when drawing.
Craftsmanship is out standing on all three. These two bowyers have real talent. I really like pretty bows with pretty veneers. But I find the Holcombs with color glass are very pretty. Perhaps it's the romantic thing, being that they are replicas of a bow built in 1959.
hope this helped.....

Frank and Tom, thanks for the compliment on my photo's.
-
you would have to look hard to find a nicer guy than Ed. I have one of his 59s only wish he had the orange glass when he made mine.
Dean
-
tonto, the orange glass is pretty neat. i have it on the belly of one of mine. it adds a nice touch for sure.
-
Is this orange glass still available?
-
I might be mistaken, but I think Ed got that orange glass from Bowdoc...Doc
-
Hey Doc, is Ed going to be at the Stockbridge shoot, May 17-18? He's been going there for the last 10-11 years...
-
I don't think he would miss it.
-
Hi guy's..we actually got the orange glass form the same manufacture. There was a limited amount and we purchased all they made and split it 3 ways...As far as I know there was never anymore done in that color autom rust as I recall...I do not remember if Ed had any left last spring when Tom and I were at his place...But Tom can supply you with Ed's home phone number...bowdoc

Here is my first Holcomb bow, just traded for it from JCAR. It has never been strung or shot and it's so pretty I have had it several weeks and still haven't shot it.
I am having a LRU D-10 Purple Haze string tied soon by Allen Shafer and will look forward to seeing how it shoots. :archer2:

Yes, my 3 also wear traps feather rest for seven years now...The two just naturally go together! Awesome arrow flight and great speed.....Love them! That's why I be dragged up this thread..!
