I’m still pretty new at this but I’ve been using 1/8” of phenolic with 1/16” of wood or antler on the 3 I built this far. So I guess that puts me pretty close to
.200”.  I like the way it looks and seems pretty durable thus far. I am curious of you jig though, can you post a pic?

Mine vary with the tip width.  Thicker on narrow tips and vicey versey.

Guess I’m not real specific on that one. I just make sure I have enough thickness for a string groove plus a little extra. That way I don’t compromise the back glass.

I should also add...  What is the length and width that you prefer??  I use 5/8" x 1 3/4" for my longbows.... The blocks are laminated fiberglass, similar to  G-10

No jig for these...  Just a piece of glass to layup my fiberglass on...

Mine are .180. The top wood being .060 and either glass or G10 on the bottom.

The blocks came in at about .170 - .175"  and the lengths are just under 2"...    The blocks are made as one piece so they should not split or delam at the color lines...  They are similar to G-10...  They will be in block form...  If you want or need the ramp ground in, let me know and I will do it for you...

I have 14 pair to give away...

I have 6 pair 3/4" wide and 4 pair 5/8" wide blocks with 5 bands of color...

I have 2 pair of 3/4" and 2 pair 5/8" wide blocks with 3 colors...

These blocks will look good on Black, Brown, Light Brown glass...  May look good on other colors like green or clear glass with the right wood underneath...

Pick out first and second choices in which you like...  I am mailing you one pair...  The second choice is if I run out of your first choice...  Or if all are not taken I may be mailing you two pair...

PM me with your choices and and mailing info..

Will they be flexible enough to attach to an RD or recurve?

Thanks Roy...

Heck no, Monty...  You would have to grind a radius on it...  The radius on my bows is about 28"...  I just glue it right on with a flat surface...  Knock wood, I have not had one failure yet...  EA-40 is a gap filler...  You don't need a super tight fit...  Actually a looser fit is better for epoxy...  The gap is so small I never really noticed a glue line...  But I guess that would depend on what colors of glass that you are gluing up to see a line...

Would work great on my ASLs but I'll defer to others cause I have this crazy idea to make some phenolic.

Your offer is very generous.

OK... just to test my understanding on these:

They go ON TOP of the backing to protect the material from string wear, correct? I haven't made a successful FG bow so am unfamiliar with all the pieces and parts.

Do you have a photo of a bow in progress with them glued on?

No Worries Greenhorn...  I have got you covered...  Send me a PM with your address and I will send you a couple pair of blocks and my phone number...  Give me a call when you are ready and I will explain everything...

The block strengthens the tip so that the string does not break through...
