Title: Question regarding Wes Wallace bows
Post by: frassettor on June 05, 2019, 10:35:47 AM
I have a friend of  mine that was asking me about Wes Wallace bows. I have absolutely no experience with them personally ,  so I figured I would ask it on here to give him some feedback.
 What are your thoughts?

Excellent bows and Wes is really good to deal with. His Royal long bow is one of my favorites.

I have his longbow and recurve.
Both are great bows. If I were to get another bow. I would have him build it.

I’ve owned five or six of his recurves and one Royal longbow, they don’t get any better. Plus Wes is a great guy to boot. IStill have one of his Mentors at 58” and I can’t see ever getting rid of it ,probably the most accurate bow I’ve ever shot.

They don't get much better than his bows.  Got his Mentor.

I have had a Royal since late nineties. Great bow, it’s my hunting bow. Quite as a church mouse. Likes heavy arrows especially woods. Wes is great to deal with. I had a limb tip issue once about 12 years ago. He fixed it for nothing, just shipping. Also added some more material so tips handle FF strings better.
I may get another as old body is starting to like 45# bows and mine is 55#. I also found the 68” bow is smoother to draw than say a 64” bow.

I have a Mentor, 3 piece take down, and it is a wonderful bow. To me, they are very well built and seem very sturdy. I dropped mine out of a ladder stand and it unstrung itself but no harm done. They shoot fast and are quiet.  A solid bow.

They are top shelf and Wes is a great guy. You can buy a more expensive bow but I don't believe you will find one better. I have his Mentor Take Down Recurve. It's a fantastic bow.

Ditto to what others have posted. Out of the Brackenbury style bows (Wallace, Blacktail, Stalker & Fox) I prefer Wes's mentor recurve.

Ghostman makes a excellent point regarding the "influence" of the Brackenbury.  You don't mention which Wallace is of interest but I think your feedback will still be favorable.  Tell your friend if he finds one in the RIGHT specs...he could be done for a long time.  Best of luck,  Tom.

My Royal is  solid, quiet, beautifully finished and as comfortable a shooter as you could ask for.  Not as high profile in the public eye and not a fancy web site but I would consider him in the top tier of makers.

Got a take down Mentor from Wes some years ago. It is the ONLY Recurve I own. I need look no further. TO say that I'm satisfied is an understatement. You won't find a better bow, in my opinion.

Just got a new one piece stealth from wes. Had him put black glass on a green one. Came out beautiful. Smooth and quiet shooter. Cant go wrong with his quality craftsmanship.

Hahaha, asking for opinions on here is dangerous.... for your wallet.

I'll echo the above praise for Wes's bows... fantastic.  I have a Royal takedown they can burry with... along with my blacktail sitka takedown.

I had a three piece Mentor that I sold. Been kicking my arse ever since.
As far as the question asked-great bows! You won't go wrong owning one.
