I notice I am the not the only one reason I say we. I have been at trad bows for 3 years. And my biggest problem is overshooting. I had a great day today, and shot well over 40 arrows out of my selfbow 50#, and then went to my 60# zipper, and shot 30 arrows. I was nailing everything from 10 yards to 30 yards, getting a tad fatigued. Then I got a bad shot. then another one. Now, right here is where I have no excuse. I know what is happening, its time to quit. My bow arm has had it.
But, no, something in my head tells me to get one last good shot. So I keep at it for like an hour. I start getting bad shots 3 out of 5. Now, mentally I aggrivated, which makes the situation worse. And I leave thinking of those bad last shots.
Am I the only one so stupid doing this?
Isn't it great to have so much fun you just can't quit? Reminds me of being a kid and swimming until your lips are purple and you are shivering, but you don't want to quit. :knothead:
Nope...I do it all the time...lol
It is called, "obsessive, compulsive, addicting, afflicting, conflicting, maniacal- shooting disorder...
there is no cure. ;) :)

Thats me. Archery is not the only thing either. Drives my wife nuts.
If you are just out having fun I say shoot till you arm falls off. If you are trying to get some serious practice in or attempting to correct errors in form you need to limit yourself.
I find that I do that quite often. The events like Comptons or GLLI leave me with raw finger tips and a huge smile.
Isn't this Traditional shooting fun? I just did that today, but I finished off with 2 dozen releasing and holding my arm steady shots, before going in. So I probably shot 50-60 times for fun, then 24 more to make my form better. Duane
practice with only one arrow
I shot a good 150 arras today, so far ;) thinkin about goin stumpin and put some fresh batts in my cams shortly :)

Thats what I do. I started that last year to limit my shooting. Still I over do it.
im guilty of that disease myself....
once i start i want to end with a good group, (i dont usually get that good group though....)
And if you go to Baltimore Bowman or Denton Hill or any other three day shoots its often100+ arrows a day for 3 days......thats why I dont do the eagle eye shoot,by the time Sat night rolls around my fingers are done.
2 days ago I shot at least 450 arrows over 4 hrs time, 6-8 arows each round from a 67# longbow. I didn't feel tired or sore but my release got so bad the last 1/2 hour that I finally had to quit.
I really felt that I could go far longer but I just couldn't seem to grip the string right.
I often shoot too much and my release is the first thing to go.
I was going to answer sooner, but I had to wash my hands. Then I had to wash my hands. Then I had to wash my hands.
:goldtooth:
Too fun to quit!
I don't shoot too much, just get tired too fast :)

I don't mind that so much at trad classic. Its spaced out all day. But when I pack 100+ arrows in a 2 hour sitting, thats the part that I need to get away from.
I hear ya Big, I kinda shoot all day. I have the bow by the balcony door and shoot a round of arrows, check the mail, retrieve my arrows, shoot another round, check the mail, retrieve my arrows, shoot another round, check the neighbors mail.... retrieve my arrows etc.... :D :D :D I shoot daily and just spread it out, a few rounds before work and after, through out the day, just spread it out. I find that I shoot better this way!
When I go to the park range... forget about it, I'm there till dark :saywhat:
I needed a second helping of Aspercreme on my shoulder tonight. Believe me, I feel your pain...

I just got my first recurve yesterday, so what do I know, but this is what my first day felt like.
I went down to the archery store and got 6 arrows, came home and started shooting at my 3-D target. I made some good shots, then a bad shot or two or three, so I had to start again, then I'd do good then bad. This cycle went on until my arm was wore out. I knew I shouldn't have done that my first day out, but I couldn't stop.
Each time I did good, it was gratifying, each time I did bad it was frustrating. This back and forth behavior was like a small adrenalin rush each time I let the arrow fly.
There seems to be an anticipation of your next shot, which is an excitement, I just don't get with my compound.
I went out today to shoot a few times and within 6 arrows I realized, I need to take a break for atleast one more day, and then I need to be careful how many I shoot.
I think I need to build up bit by bit. Maybe set a limit of 24 arrows every other day, and move up by 6 arrows a week until I am shooting 10 sets of 6. Kind of like lifting weights or something.
Blacktail, try and shoot 3 arrows at a time and work up from there! Very rarely I'll shoot 6 consecutive arrows, I'll break it up a bit that way I don't tire and get into bad habits! Some guys only shoot 1 arrow at a time and retrieve it and shoot it again...etc just some food for thought! Most important is have fun!
That's why I shoot low poundage bows. I only have to quit when it's time to get up for work. Is that wrong? :D
A friend of mine who is a far better shot than I maintains it's your brain that gets lazy shooting over and over, little flaws creep into your shooting until it is all rubbish. Dont shoot more than thirty or forty at any one session. He says never shoot with more than three arrows and shoot at different targets at different distances. He admits to shooting lots and lots of arrows too on occasion, he like to shoot clays! Standard speed and size, 'ag man, francolin are faster on the wing than any clay pigeon' He makes me mad, he can hit six out of ten some days!
Be careful when you start out I tore a ligament in my elbow shooting a light poundage FITA bow for hours on end. Result was I could not shoot at all for four months, the bad thing was it went numb after being painful, so then I carried on! :knothead:
