Just curious if anyone has ever used the 3 Rivers Pre-finished wooden Shafts and installed self nocks in them? Thanks
-
Yes. I used a nifty nocker from Raptor and I used the hardwood reinforcement. At the time I believe 3rivers shafts were sealed with gasket laquer and I touched up my work with poly. This was at least 8 years ago so I would confirm a compatible finish as they may use something different today.

I've made self nocks in 3Rivers cedar shafts but not finished arrows.

I think he's asking because the pre finished shafts arealready tapered for a glue on nock. By the time you are done shaping them there you can't really tell though.
-
You could cut off the taper and go from there. That wouldn't affect the shaft any but you would have to re-seal them.

Thanks for the replies. My concern was if I would have to reinforce with hardwood or if I could jus wrap the base of the nock with sinew, seal self nock and be good to go.

You should either wrap the self nock(I prefer sinew wrap) or add a spine(hardwood, horn, rawhide) for a reinforced self nock. Either one will work fine with prefinished shafts.
