Maybe we can get some good ideas here so here goes. If you had $1000 to go on a hunt what would you do? I know it won't get you a guided wilderness moose hunt in Alaska, but that's kinda the idea, what would it get.
A semi guided black bear hunt in Quebec. Elk hunt in Idaho if I had a partner to split gas with. dino
Hogs in Texas, lots of hogs.

what dave said here!!!!!!!
Probably a hunt in TX with Littlefeather.
Guess I'd do what I always do and spend $40.00 for gas and go hunt the Oregon coast for elk and blacktail.
I love the west, so first choice - DIY elk hunt. Or mule deer. Or antelope. AS long as it's in the west, I'd be a happy guy. :archer:
Buy tags NH, ME, MA, CT, NY and Ohio. Use whatever was left for gas and try to hunt with as many Trad Gangers as possible in one fall.
I love huntin' big whitetails, so I would go to Indiana, Illinois or Ohio where tags are available over the counter and hunt some public land. I believe if ya get off the beaten path ya can kill a good one in any of those states! Shawn
Buy a plane ticket & go visit & drink coffee with Vance, out in Wyoming.
Spot and Stalk (Black Bear) Idaho.
Hogs with Curtis  some day it will happen for me.
Buy a lifetime hunting licence in WV or VA and be done with it...
I may be old school (or cheap) but thinking of spending a grand on a single hunt runs a chill up my spine...

We think alike...
I think most of us will probably spend that much money on gas this year, hunting our own backyards.
At $4.25 a gallon, it's 4 and a 1/4 tank, but it may not get that high, but probably close to it.
We'll probably hear on the news, another record profit yr, the oil companies. And they'll probably do the same thing they did last year, nothing about it.
Carl
Black bear or a do it yourself elk hunt.
A fly in diy sheep hunt in the wrangels.
I think if I were from MASS like you, I would get a partner and fly to the cheapest closest place to Wyoming and get a deer (mule deer) tag and a doe antelope tag. I think with a partner and some will power you may do it for 1,000 not sure. Cheapest western hunt. If not that I would drive south of you for hogs. Florida or S.C. or GA.
If I had a $1000 to go on a Hunt, CK would have to beat me away with a stick....
Someday it will happen, be warned CK....
Hogs in TX for sure. Would love to go and hunt with CK also. Like the others though....someday
I would use it on one of the tradgang group hunts...or a colorado elk hunt...or an anywhere hog hunt...or a 'bou hunt...or a bear hunt...or a ...
David
I'd love to go to Wyoming, it would be a totally different world for me. I think the hogs down south might just be possible with $1000.
From MA a DIY elk isn't possible for a grand unless you've got someone in the state your hunting covering local transportation. On the other hand Paul you can hunt 7 states all within a 2 hour drive of your house for less than a grand. You could hunt deer from Sept. thru January with more tags than you would want to fill. Turkeys and bears also included in the license fees.
I'd buy 2 weeks worth of groceries.....then take 2 weeks off work to hunt local whitetails. :archer:
Just took the bowhunter safety course a couple of weeks ago so I could hunt out of state. Hoping to go to NY in the fall. Southern hogs in January would sure help with cabin fever.
I sure would like to take a Wolf with my Longbow and I think $1000 sure would get me close! One of these days.....
I would spend at least a two weeks in GA. I could fly my father down from MI to meet me with that much in my pocket.
This year I am spending that grand to hunt Elk in Colorado. I needed to buy a lot of gear so the next hunt will be much cheaper. Of course I "needed" a new bow too.
Wadayamean "if"? Memories are a lot more valuable than "stuff". Get those priorities in line and scratch up the wompum. Get out there and feed the soul, rocking chair days are just around the corner.
2008 hunts: Feb Texas hogs/javies w/Littefeather; April/May turkeys at home, w/ Mr Vic, w/Littlebigman (Jim G); Oct/Nov whitetails home and a big antler lease in central IA again w/Littlebigman; back to TX at the end of Dec. Each of these hunts is in the $1k +/- and I hope to add more. Rob's plan to drink coffee with Vance sounds mighty good to me. My IRA is going to be mostly in the memory bank.
I would go to the Black Hills in South Dakota. Over the counter tags and some fantastic hunting
Caribou or hogs/javalina hunt for sure!!
airfare to texas and hogs.
My dream hunt. Chasing bugling elk in the Rockies...
Gotta come up with the grand first. But if i do,it would be an out of state hunt.
I'd pick any of the following
Bear hunt (not sure how far $1000 would get me)
Hogs
Maybe a DIY mule deer hunt out west.
But this already takes into consideration my already planned elk hunt
elk in montana
I'd give 800.00 to my wife, and than I'd sneak up to the cabin for a week or two. Maybe she wouldn't mind me being gone than.
Hey Guys,
If I could get the tags, I'd try an elk hunt in Kentucky!!
Lobo in West Virginia
I'd want to hunt turkeys, deer and what ever with my friends Tom (Bentpole), Joe Skipp and Reiner. We could cover NJ NY PA and CT. Maybe even DE too.
Larry
I'd take my wife and I to Chopper's. Four hogs, three nights, $500 each.
Of course, If I had a thousand dollars, my wife would want to go the other direction to St Orres in Gualala. No hunting there though...
" If you had $1000 to go on a hunt what would you do? "
With non-res tag prices going through the roof and gas prices, its tougher and tougher to do less than $1000 hunts.
I'm going to drive to Colorado in September. Thats 2500 miles and I'll use 110 gallons of gas or so ( $350 or $375 ) and my tag was $ 525 I think. Thats right at $900 and I'm backpacking in for a hunt.
I'd reccommend everyone doing elk - they're unlike any other animal to hunt because of where they live.
Do what I do every year with my 1000 dollars and chase big nasty midwest farm bucks for 2 weeks in November, I am addicted to large antlered whitetails.
I think I would use the money as a down payment on a little camper I've been looking at. That way, I can just pull it to one of the state parks down in Virginia/West Virginia/Western Maryland and have more use for it than huntin alone. There is plent of National Park land out that way that is open to huntin and callin my name.
Maybe that doesn't qualify for what you were looking for but that is what I want to do.
Greg
I wouldn't waste it on gas or outfitters. Not even on big ticket tags. Camp someplace for weeks during october and enjoy the colors and the whitetails and whatever local game was available.
I wish they'd put the brakes on these gas prices.
It's going to take a grand just to hit the local swamps. I'm saving now for NY.
I'd put it in the bank, take a second job and work 80 hours a week until I had enough to go to back to South Africa
Biggie, how much does a round trip S. Africa hunt cost. Everything included?
ill just hunt whatever the next aniamal that looks at me wrong.just kidding, i would to hunt any kind of bear somewhere.
Put the money in the checking account. Take off the second week of November and hunt my hot spots in JERSEY.
New Blacktail bow and hunt in state. If I draw a tag out of state it would really help with the tag and expenses!
Lets see... club/lease dues $600 a yr...
liscense/tags 60 a yr
a dz arras 100.
homemade cover scnet 25 a yr
gas and processor fees 200 a yr
--------------------------------
total $985
Gee thats about what I spent last year... It'll cost me more than that this year...........
Robert,
You could get to South Africa and back for close to ten thousand. Alot of cost variables depending on how many animals taken. The flights are crazy long and the costs are high. A big expense with SA is the taxidermy which hits months after you get home.
Thanks JDS3.
Taxidermy covered, my brother does it for a living.
DIY moose/bear on the Kenai....
Robert, If I answer that, my idea won't sound as intellegent as it did :-)
I have a few properties to hunt that are very close. I'd go on 100 $10.00 hunts. I like value.
I hear ya Biggie.
It's not the money thats a problem for me...its the time off from work. I like my vacation time off way too much. I'd stay in Washington...one hunt just isn't enough for me:
1. August-Black Bear on the Peninisula
2. September-Go to eastern Washington for a freezer-fillin Whitetail
3. Oct and Nov-Shoot Pheasants off the plant sites here in Western Washington (not South Dakota but way cheaper)
4. Finish up the late season with an Elk hunt on a special little island here off Washington.
I often wish we had hogs here but from what I hear about the damage they do, keep them D--N things in Texas!
Now being in the cold north I would use that 1000 to almost fill up the oil tank for the house. I would then be able to still be able to walk out the back door and hunt, also knowing the wife of 43 years is warm in the house.
Bill
I would pay the first half of my annual lease in the hill country near Brady Texas.
