Title: St.Judes
Post by: Thadbow on May 15, 2019, 07:50:19 AM
Any word on the auction this year?
My buddy Bobby Wetten JS in the ABS dropped off an amazing hand forged blade that he wanted to donate!
This thing is beautiful!!
He also has included a custom hand tooled sheath.

I talked to Doug Campbell last week about the auction...and after 18 years he and I thought it would be best to take a year off.

Excitement over the past 3 years has been off...and we we want to see if a new push next year would resurrect excitement, donations, and participation.

Most have no clue how much effort goes into this effort....and to see dwindling participation cuts pretty deep.

Doug an I will revisit this after the 1st of the year....thx  :campfire:

Sorry to hear this.  I donate to 1/2 a dozen other charities...Freedom Dogs for Wounded Warriors and a couple other Cancer related charities.  I'll wait and see what happens next year.  I'm sure proud and appreciate what Trad Gang has done in the past years for St Judes...tippit

I sent St. Judes a check last week. One of the few I trust to not pocket any of it.

Well thats sad news ... The St Judes auction will be missed, they are my favorite charity and the auction has produced many good friends and adventures over the years while helping the Kids of St Judes.

Many thanks to all the folks who have worked on this in the past, Mods, donors, bidders, winners, and even all the rascal snipers. It's a Great event and I hope it comes back. If I can help out in the future with some of the work load I would be happy to participate ....

I’m sorry to hear that there isn’t an auction this year.  I’ll donate anyway. I also appreciate the hard work that goes into making the auction run smoothly.  If help is needed with future auctions, I will happily volunteer.

I should also let everyone know that what seems like a 3 day event is a 3 month production.....

Starts early May, Rob and I setting up the forums and posting the info...then moving donations to the proper forums till the opening in early June...

Then the the mayhem (fun) of the auction...

Then finally collecting all the funds by Doug Walt Francis by the end of June...

Maybe that will shed a little more light into what goes into the auction.

Gorgeous knife!   Would have brought a lot of money to St. Jude's via the auction.

I'll like to see Tradgang go for the million dollar club!   Heck a bunch of trad archery and trad bowhunters aught to be able to rub a few more dimes together to make it there......

Then maybe call it done and good.

I do understand the effort side of the situation...

On the other hand I'm not sure I could participate much this year due to a specific obligation but I was gonna try my best.....

We always give to St. Jude’s during the year as well. Looking forward I have items that I need to move along. I will set those that are worthy aside for then.
I want to thank those who take their time to run the event for the kids.

Tell Bobby that is a beautiful knife and thanks for thinking of St Jude.

As many of you know the St Jude CRH has always been near and dear to my heart. Bottom line is we just didn’t have time to pull it off this year. The Ranch Karen and I have managed for going on 19 years changed hands last fall. We are staying on the ranch but things are pretty crazy here. Lots of moving and changes but all good.

Can’t tell everyone how much we appreciate all the support in the past. Terry and I will revisit it next hard and see how much interest there is. Of course please you don’t need a Trad Gang Auction to donates to St Jude.

Thanks again!!

I understand but am sad to hear about it not being put on. I have noticed dwindling participation the past couple of years. I had planned to donate three custom Polk Knives this go around. I’ll still donate the proceeds of 3 to St Jude’s though I’ll have to find another way to do it. I always found the annual St Jude’s auction humbling and exciting.

Yes, Doug and I will revisit this next year for sure...I'll have a College Graduation bout the time we fire it all up....maybe I can start earlier with the preliminaries in the winter,  and Doug and Walt might do some delegation.

More hunt donations would sure help get some participation and funds back.

You guys kick it around....maybe we can come back with a force.  :notworthy:

I was looking forward to it as well but understand the hassle. This year I had solicited donations of highly figured wood to make tillering gizmos for the auction, Roy sent me a bunch and the guys on a flintlock building site absolutely covered me up with wood.

I may make the gizmos and offer one shipped free to anyone who sends me a notice that they sent a $20 donation to St Jude. Would it be OK to list that offer on this site?

Terry, as much as I hate to say it I think its a good call...I wanna see the day we meet the MILLION mark.
Walt and Doug, when we get the auction fired-up next year I'd be glad to help you guys if you need me.

I hate to hear this but I completely understand. I was planning on taking a year off from offering a hunt or fishing trip but was prepared to spend good money on a hunt or maybe a fishing trip.

In the spirit of keeping some excitement up, I am inviting the last few year's winners of our hunts down for a deer hunt this year. Although it may seem generous, it's pretty selfish because I enjoyed sharing a camp with these guys so much.

Terry, not sure if this would be feasible, or how much work it would entail, but what about creating a page like the classifieds for a limited time for folks to list items. All payments could go straight to St Jude's. Maybe keep it open for a month. That would take some of the load off of you guys but still give everyone an opportunity to donate. It's fairly easy to stockpile items you want to donate, but things like hunts and fishing trips really only come around once a year.

Like I said,  this may not be feasible. I'm just shooting from the hip.

I had an idea this morning, not sure why I didn't think about it last night....

I talked to Blacktail Bob from Island Graphics this morning and we are going to incorporate donating $2 per Tradgang Decal sold to St Judes.....

I just need some time to get it all figured out for exact costs/shipping, and set it up on Paypal.....

We will be offering two design versions....and I need to get the exact size dimensions on the 2nd one....

Sad....but expected...

Lack of bids on items, no bid on one item, and zero decal sales....you can see the lack of enthusiasm for St Jude.

Not sure we will even consider next year based on what we are seeing.

I think this is too random for most folk, they like see a lot of items to pick through and get caught up in the bidding.

I just passed $450 in donations for my gizmos, they are going like hotcakes.

I suspect that most people are gathering things to list the next time the St. Jude's Auction comes around. I know that is what I am doing. I am also making a donation to St. Jude's Hospital this year without the fun of the auction.

I believe that taking a year off from the auction will do no harm, and that the Trad Gang members will pretty much go nuts for next year's auction and put up some impressive numbers.

I agree with Joe....My Grand daughter spent a lot of time in different children's hospitals and has always done different fund raisers...sold personal items to donate etc. She was very excited for our St Judes auction this year and has spent the last several months making some special bracelets for it....She was very disappointed its not happening as was I. Anyway she will have more for next year if it happens. If not we will find another way to help.
