How many have used fast flight strings. Not that I’m considering it but in a pinch would you be concerned with trying one?

I do as do many selfbow shooters. Put an overlay if you are concerned at all.

I have used 8125 on the last few bows I've made, I put wood or sometimes leather overlays on them but really don't know if that makes a difference as I never made one without them. My main bow I made in 2014, still shooting fine. Any string that fits and can be shot on a glass bow I will shoot on mine. Skinny or fat strings modern material or b50.

Last year I managed to make it second ever 3d shoot, had a blast. It was the first time I ever shot a course with a bow I made. Just got done putting finish on a bow I plan on taking to tannehill this year if everything works out. Would love to get to shoot with you fellows again.

I use modern no stretch string material like fast flight and BCY 452X on all of my selfbows. I put horn tip overlays on them.

I used B-50 and B-55 on my selfbows but I have other selfbows that were given to me by friends with FF type strings, some with tip overlays, some not.

I have one of those bow arms that the the string slaps no matter what stance I take, I get a lot less slap with DF97 because it stops instead of following the arrow. I don't remember the last time I put B-50 on a selfbow.

I've shot nothing but Fast Flight on my self and sinew backed bows for almost 20 years. Put an overlay on and your good to go. Take a bow that you shot B50 on and switch it to FF and you will think that you have a new bow!

I use D97 or D10 on every now I make. I use 10 strands under 50# and 12 strands in the loops on everything up to 75# without issue. Even on softer woods like walnut. It’s still use overlays for long term durability with softer woods. Plus they look good. This is a 68# black walnut, cherry overlay single side nock, using a 12 strand D97 string. It’s been my go to bow for 2 years with no issues.

Can you be more specific as to; "you will think that you have a new bow!" Does the arrow speed increase, does the bow weight increase, does the cast improve. Is it really that much of an advantage using FF over B-50 on a wood bow.

what I found is a new bow its fine to make the change before tuning but and old bow that is matched to arrows it shoots perfect will all change with a FF string,,,,, once I match a bow to arrows and its hitting beautiful for me nothing changes ever again with those arrows or the bow..
I will agree that ff strings can make a bow feel a lot better though just get it on first before you figure out arrow spine.

To answer your question in my experience that string will lesson shock and vibration, improve cast by increasing speed, not sure about sound as most of my non ff selfbows do not have silencers on them and they are silent. Ff might last alot longer too

"not sure about sound" we did a field test one day and I'll tell ya we installed a B-50 string on a longbow and it was dead quiet where the FF was noisier than a firecracker. So that proved to me about quietness, and I have used furry silencers and that reduced noise on my takedown recurve by 80%.
