Title: FYI Best String silencers
Post by: Adirondack Hunter on March 27, 2019, 07:41:52 PM
I have for years used Amsteel Rope form West M[attachment=1][attachment=1]arine for string damping. Does not absorb water, no reduction in speed, last for ever. Cut to length, separate , insert between strands, pop the bow string and PUFF. [attachment=1]

I experimented with that material and many others several years ago. For me the wool puff was quieter. The loss of a couple fps was negligible at my hunting distances.

I've been using either wool yarn or strips of fleece for silencers for few years now and have found none better. The wool doesn't absorb water and collapse like other silencers I've used.

For me cat whiskers are tough to beat. Always have spinnerbait skirts on hand, don't have to take off string to put them on, water proof and work as well as anything else IMO. I like cheap and easy

In my days with wheels I used the rubber inside cloth wrapped bungee straps which is like cat whiskers. I'd remove a piece, tie it on the string and unravel it.

I buy a tanned muskrat about once every 5 years and cut strips from it for silencers. They work, look cool, and a flick or two of the string and they are essentially dry. IMO people get hung up on things that are of no consequence, like if my silencers are soaked, who cares. Arrow soaked, who cares. Seems to make no difference in anything. I've hunted downpours and will shoot squirrels, deer , or whatever and no issues with silencers made of fur.
