I recently picked up a Mcullough 59r. The string grooves have excess wax build up. Any tips in removing it???
I was thinking alchohol or goo gone
Thank you
Just a dry wash cloth should rub it off.
Somewhere I heard peanut oil will remove wax. Haven't tried it but there it is for what it's worth
Thank you. I'll give it a try I have never seen that much excess wax.
Interesting that this topic would come up. I just bought a new to me bow and I have never seen anything like the was buildup on the string. When you unstring the bow, the wax actually globs on the belly of the bow. I have wiped the bow down with goo gone twice now. I will try the dry washrag on the string tonight.
Another member told me alchohol. I'm going to try that
How about a little warm air from a hair dryer to soften up the wax, then a dry rag?
After you get the wax off the bow, consider not waxing the part of the string that touches the bow. Wax on the part of the string that touches the bow causes wax buildup on the bow, as you already know, and contributes to string slap noise.
This topic caused a minor uproar in some other posts a while ago, and I have no desire to restart that battle. I don't try to remove the wax that is already on the ends of the string; I just don't add anymore. Works for me, but YMMV.

Seems like a worthwhile battle! Lmao.
