Title: Thinned Poly-U. and compatible glue?
Post by: Minuteman on April 03, 2008, 10:03:00 AM
Got a buncha polyurethane from a yard sale , satin, quick drying variety. My thought was to thin it and use it as an arrow finish I could dip and hang dry. Its too thick so it needs thinned.
My questions are; what do ya use for the thinner, and what kinda glues are or aren't compatible with polyurethane finish?
I was planning on using Duco for the fletches( I also have regular fletch-tite and CYA) or possibly fletch tape.
Thanks
Chris

Duco will work fine....and I just put the finish on with one of those cheap foam brushes instead of dipping.

Chris, I've had excellant results with the tape on a wide variety of finishes. Recently I've even used tape and a feather burner with success; I'd been a little reluctant to try it but its worked great on everything so far.

Duco or tape will work. As for thinner, check the manufacturer's website and see what the recommended thinner is.

Chris, I use a lot of Minwax Fast Dry Oil Base Poly for arrows and thin it 3 or 4 to 1 with a good quality paint thinner.  This dips well without runs and gives me a nice tough finish that doesn't target burn.  Duco is the glue of choice.

Yup, good quality paint thinner mix 70% ploy and 30% thinner. Works great and use duco or tape. Shawn
