Title: Question about riser glue up

Hey guys,  a friend of mine and I decided to try a bingham TD recurve build. We glued up a riser with walnut and maple accents using loctite and i wasnt real impressed with the look or weight of the riser. So i ordered a block of actionwood and some strips of phenolic from Bingham to make another riser.  My question is can i just rip the block in two and then use smooth on to glue in the strips of phenolic and then sandwich it back together?  Also do i need to cure the riser in the hot box? Any tips would be great!

Yes you can rip the riser as long as glue surfaces stay flat and fit good . Be sure to rough up the phenolic so the glue has a good bonding surface.

Smooth on will cure at room temp in about 24 hours so you can get by with no hot box. Lots of threads about properties of the epoxy when cured at different temps but the bow will be just fine if you don't use one.

Like Lonnie said, ya don't really need a hot box as long as the bow is in 70 degree temps.

Also make sure your block is symmetrically square before ripping it , and all surfaces are clean & ruffed up , action wood usually is a great gluing surface I have never had a problem with room temp cured EA-40
