Title: point of impact wood vs carbon
Post by: jrchambers on April 02, 2008, 07:36:00 PM
i have been shooting 5575 gold tips tuned in a rd longbow not center cut, i just started shooting some cedars and ramin and they fly well but hit a good foot left of the carbons at 20 yards,  they fly well so i dont think there is a spine issue.  what else could it be?

If you're right handed, it probably is a spine  issue.  Your woodies' thicker diameter move them further left of center (if you're a right handed shooter)on the bow shelf.  This creates the same effect as building out the side plate, which usually requires a reduction in spine.  If you shoot the same spine as the carbons, but in a larger diameter, they will react as if they are overspined.  Also, it's likely you have less weight up front on the woodies which will make their dynamic spine heavier than the carbons if they both have the same static spine.

I think Orion covered it. I would add go to OL Adcock's site and do some bareshafting with both sets of arrows if you have not done so already. As Orion suggested you should be able to tune them to fly the same by increasing the point weight of the woods or leaving them longer if that is an option.

they are full length.  i shot them yesterday with more weight and they were underspined, flew poorly.

Could be a sight picture issue.  If you're used to lining everything up with the point of the arrow beneath the target (even if subconsiously) then changing the shaft diameter and length will mess with the POI.
