Thought I would share some pics and info about our recent hog hunt with you.
I'll get it started and hopefully get Don (hitman) and David to chime in also.
The plan was for me to leave my house at 6:45am Thursday morning February 21 and pick up Don and a friends trailer at 7:30am. I think I was a bit excited as I arrived at the predetermined pick up spot at 7:15. When I arrived, I realized I wasn't the only one excited as Don was already there and waiting.
In for dead pig pics!!!!!!

Picking up the trailer.
Dave navigated while Don drove and I took their pic.
After 11 hours on the road, we stopped in Brunswick, Georgia for the night. We were traveling from WV to the Melbourne Florida area.

First evening on stand with my tiger shark.

These small pigs showed up, but I held out for something a bit bigger.

After we arrived and unloaded our gear, David and I drove to the airport and picked up his son Matt. That completed our hunting party.
I apologize for some of these pics. I had difficulty posting and had to download a photo editor. This post should have preceded the last one. We all took stands the first evening.
I was the only one with shot opportunities, but passed on a sow and 6 piglets. I was about to take the sow, but she plopped down and a couple of the piglets began nursing. That's when I decided to pass on them,
The acorn crop was abundant this year and that made hunting the feeders less productive.
The first morning sit, Saturday the 23rd, wasn't very productive as far as pig sightings, but there were plenty of wildlife to see. After a good lunch, Don and I tried some fishing. We caught a few tilapia and bass. I didn't know him before this trip, but we quickly became friends.

Looking good so far!!!
Keep it coming

Saturday evening went better, but that is someone else's story. However, there were still no bacon put down by trad equipment.
Then came a special day. Sunday morning was a bit hot, in more ways than one.
Have I mentioned how much I like those Simmons broad Heads? When you see your arrow sink to the fletching and you know it's "money", now that's a great feeling!

Nice Hog.
What poundage are you shooting with the Simmons. I've been curious how they would perform out of a 40# recurve.

That's a good size pig. Congratulations.

Blood: I'm shooting about 47#. I was amazed that the broad head that went completely through this nice sized sow would still shave hair from my arm after recovery.
I washed it off and touched it up with 5 or so strokes across the rada sharpener. That's something else I like about them... easy to sharpen (I'm a bit challenged when it comes to sharpening things.)
Thanks wudstix and GCook.
Thanks, congrats on the pig

Awesome job Wayne and nice hog!
Thanks Buckeye!
I'll be back shortly with some more.
Don scored next on a nice boar. I'll leave him some time to post. David then took the fattest sow I've ever seen in my relatively short pig hunting experience. We all called her "Fatty". Maybe Dave would like to post the pic of him and Fatty...the one where one of the two of them have a big smile going. :biglaugh:
After some good food and some more afternoon fishing, we got back to it. Don had some sightings, but we didn't add to our coolers.
Monday morning was cooler and our time was quickly passing. We planned to leave on Tuesday morning. I had never taken a boar...that was about to change.
My first boar.

Looks like a fun trip Wayne. Glad to see you got to bring home the bacon. That's a pretty nice hog.
I love the spotted ones. Looks like a fun trip. Good shooting.

Loved the markings on this guy. He was in the 150-160 # range. Although he wasn't weighed, I'm pretty sure about the estimate because Don took another boar a little later in the morning, about the same size, and he was weighed.
Here is David's "Fatty". Fatty weighed in at 190#. This was the biggest hog of the trip. (Well, we all ate well while on this trip.) :goldtooth:

Thanks John.
Don's first boar. This one was taken Sunday morning, shortly after I took my sow.

Don's second boar was taken Monday morning.

Here's Fatty getting skinned.

Yea, looks like someone spray painted him. :biglaugh:
Wow Jim, what a hog! We really appreciated the use of your trailer. And I want to apologize (publicly) for sending you those pics without knowing your "situation".
I spent the last evening fishing and packing up for the trip home. As I fished around the edge of the lake, I came to a brush choked section of shoreline that forced me up onto the two track that circles the lake. As soon as I stepped onto the road, I heard a grunt to my left. Two pigs, a red one and a black one scurried away into the brush.
Then I seen a bald eagle fly over me, and then over the lake toward the setting sun. I thought about how we are all headed toward our own "sunset" and that every day is a good one, some are just better than others.
I'd just spent a few great ones with friends both new and not so new. I look forward to what else lies ahead, especially next year's hog hunt with these same guys!
Thanks for "coming along".

My "situation" is... I'm CHEAP. I don't use the cell phone much so I have a tracfone and buy minutes annually. :)
As for the trailer, you're most welcome. You know where it is, so any time you need it, just let me know.
:biglaugh: :shaka:
Congrats to all you guys!! Pig hunting is a hoot!!!

I knew Jim's "situation" needed an explanation. :saywhat: It was a great time and I too have our dates for 2020. My first trip to Osceola Outfitters was with Jim the first year he went. I have been there every year since as well.
Glad to hear Jim's situation wasn't terminal!!!! Cell phones can be a blessing and a curse!
Congrats on the hogs, thanks for sharing your stories

Wudstix,
I was almost fatal. Those guys sent pictures to my "old" cell tracfone. It took 30 minutes of time off to download the darn things. I felt faint and thought I was going to have a heart attack. :banghead:
I'm sure they'll reimburse you!!!!!
You guys are brutal! Fantastic
It was a good trip with finshtr , David Mitchell and his son Matt. I took 2 boars with my 47# BW and my wood arrows shooting single bevel 2 blade grizzlys, 155 grain.[attachment=1][attachment=1]
I did not see that Wayne had already posted before I did and then I messed up and put the same hog on twice. Getting old will mess with your head! At least mine. Lol. Thanks Wayne.
Lol. Sure was a great hunt Don. :biglaugh:
Nice hogs guys, looks like a great time. Hoppy and his boys are true gentelmen. My wife surprised me this Christmas with a trip to Osceola in July. It will be my fourth time there.
Looks like a great trip! Thanks for the story and pics.

Hitman aka Don, makes gorgeous wood arrows. He and Wayne are as good as they come to spend time with chasing pigs. It was a little toughter this year than usual due to a huge acorn crop that kept the pigs back in the thick, nasty stuff, but good company always makes things go better. Don, you're not old, just getting seasoned.
This time is always special when I get to hunt with my son and enjoy some relaxed, unhurried time together. He does not live close and has a family and a busy optometry practice, so the time we get to be together is priceless.
Great read guys!!!
Congrats!!!
Times like this with friends and family are precious. Enjoy every minute, I know I do. Thanks guys for an enjoyable trip.
