Title: Tradgang PBS auction gem-Blacktail Elite recurve-picture updates
Post by: Ray Lyon on February 23, 2019, 06:03:22 AM
I got this 18 year old one piece beauty in the recently completed auction. I must say that the great reputation of Blacktail Bows is WELL deserved. I had just enough time to run a few arrows through it last night and it was extremely smooth (I figured it would be with 66" length) and surprisingly fast.  It has normal scuff marks and such so I may send it back for a refinishing, however it's a beautiful bow as is.

Blacktail bows are overlooked, people think they are only beautiful bows with details unsurpassed by most of the other bows and they don't realize how a great performers and accurates they are. Grip is very solid forcing your hand in a single position. For the quality, performances and prices they are a bargain

I'm sure there's some regional influences but I've never seen one in my neck of the woods. I knew thes were good shooting bow based on numerous write ups and I couldn't resist this one at $250 winning bid.

Glad you like it.......I would have been bidding on that old girl but she was just a bit to heavy for me.

I sent a new-to-me Blacktail bow to Norm for refinishing and it came back like new. You won't be disappointed.
No question on their quality and I loved the grip. It was my first 3 piece bow and I found I prefer one piece.

Maybe should have kept it though...

I bid on that one too, for the same reasons you did. Glad you got it and seems that it found a good home!

Definitely a steal at $250! If I had the extra I would've bid too. Gotta be a great bow!

This bow and Tippets knife were on my radar. Bow happened first. It's a tack driver.

The last picture has some condensation on riser because it came in from the cold, so that's not a finish imperfection.  Anyway, Blacktail Bows were fantastic to work with on this.  Great turnaround time and the workmanship is impeccable.  Since this bow was right on the edge of my bow weight I normally shoot I asked if they could slim it down so as I continue to age it would be more comfortable. They said it would depend on original build but could probably get 3-4 pounds off since it's a 66" bow. They took off 4 pounds and it still shoots awesome.  It's just so very smooth and stable.  Thank you Alan and Julie Pope at Blacktail for the fine care.  I'm so glad I rolled the dice on bidding for this bow. Blacktail's are certainly worthy of their great reputation.

Just like on some of the Bear bows I have restored its fun to see the original color of the wood pop back.  This bow is fast approaching it's 18th birthday.

I wish I was 18 again and could get refinished ..... Blacktail bows are a very fine bow, my best hunting buddy has mine and he's not giving it back.

Wow what a deal for sure.
Currently shooting an ELite VL myself. 64" 41@30" Amazingly fast bow. for 12 year old limbs. My third BT.
Got old weaker and had to sell first two to someone younger and stronger.
However I'm waiting for my 62" Sitka to arrive in April.
Could we maybe start a Blacktail photos thread?
