Hit the swamps this morning. It was very foggy and I had about 2 miles to walk. I was only a little over half way when I noticed black shapes in the fog about 100 yards down the road. They were crossing left to right, so I left the road to the right and made my way to the edge of the water. As I was getting into position I could see them filtering towards me. It can be tough to sneak up on 15 pairs of eyes, but they were submarining for grub! One of the larger ones offered a 20 yard shot, and I had to take it. It looked a little far back, but the hog was quartering away ever so slightly. My 48@27 Savannah sent that 700 grain Heritage shaft clear on through and it stuck broadhead deep in a large cypress. There were no guts on the shaft. I felt good about the hit, but decided to give them a couple of hours. There were so many hogs running in all directions, that it was tough to keep "my" hog in sight and note any prominent landmarks he ran by.

Two hours later I tried to sort through the puzzle. Evidently my hog was not the one I thought he was when they all ran off. I finally found a blood trail, but it was very weak. I lost it after about 75 yards. I found the hog by walking a ridge that most of the hogs used for an exit.
The autopsy revealed liver and the off-side lung. This thing traveled 200 yards and died in it's first bed. She weighed around 80# I would imagine. It was a great hunt.

Great job congrats!!!!!!
Aewsome man!!
Congrats
CJ, Looking forward to your trip south!
I shoot a 1 1/2" 135 grain Magnus I two blade broadhead with a 125 grain steel adapter, and a 100 grain brass insert. This hog had a big hole going in, and coming out! It was a fat hog though. I expected much more blood. The hit was a little high.
I got to get both lungs next time. These hogs are tough on marginal hits.
Good job Marty.RC
COngrats Marty.
Way to go, killer!
Excellent Marty!! Congrats!
Nice shot predator! I wish we had hogs in Il.I guess I'll settle for ground hogs, that sounds like fun too.
Way to stick with it and to find the barbecue! Congrats.
