Title: Got Inspired !
Post by: Forwardhandle on February 17, 2019, 04:25:50 PM
With the way time has not been working out for me this winter I decided to put the Horn/composite on hold tell spring & pulled down this stave cut in 2015 been inside for 3 yrs and make a 68" static leaver bow out of it, has a couple of very minor pins but as about as strait as you can get for osage and thick to ,so its one of those staves you can pretty much go where you want with it , this will be a good project to work in the wee hours of the night with out having to use power tools ! Going to get a little more aggresive with induced reflex on this one should be a fun relaxing project !

Looking forward to this. That is a nice stave and the pins seem to be located to be avoided.

Yep that lower pin is probably going to end up in center of the fade which shouldnt be a issue and I think the upper one I can avoided its pretty much going to be like my others but going to keep it much wider in the lowers and induce 4 " of reflex hoping to keep 2 of it will see I might put a slow sweeping flip on the tips I need to get it laid out & see what I got ,Im a little rusty self bow making haven't made one in a while  but will be fun !

Flem its just basicly static tiped long bow not calling it a molly because it doesn't fit in terms of front view & tiller profile all I have is construction pics of the last , I left the static tips thick and shot it threw the chrony as I thined them down at the request of a friend it was kinda neat watching it pick up speed as they where thined, these type natural bows are pretty quick if built right ,I think Im going to put a mild sweeping hook on the current one !

Very nice! looks like it cut down the string angle substantially.

Yes it does that bow is also 68" pulled to 31" but the problem with using natural material is at long draw lengths your walking a tight rope as far as reflex that bow held reflex but after 3 previous bows of the same design I figured I need a couple design changes one is I'm beefing up the lowers substantialy and I'm going to add the majority of the reflex in the mid limb to outers using a caul  similar to the pic if you look carefully in the FD pic I put a slight reflex in the statics right in front of the static fade, this curent one I'm doing a slow sweeping curve in the whole leaver also it's hard to see in those pics but it has a double pyramidal taper on the front view keeping the mass light on mid & upper limb
