Hi there,
So this weekend the wife and kid were away. I got everything ready for glue up Friday night
-
Nice! is that Yew wood?
-
And Saturday first thing in the morning I spent 1,5hr gluing up all the pieces together on my new design bow press
-
And put it to cure in the oven
-
Nice! is that Yew wood?
No just laminated bamboo and one macassar ebony veneer (broke the other one while fine sanding it)
-
Now I have it cooled down, stated cleaning and gluing overlay.
I will try to cut it out during the week
-
That is some radical curves you got coming off the riser... I am very curious to what she is gonna look like at brace... Good Luck Brudder...
-
Looking good
-
That is a crap ton of reflex.
-
Thats a crap ton of oven too!
-
Why the hole drilled in riser?
-
Looks like a sauna. You could have a nice sweat and cook a bow at the same time :)
-
Maybe to get a jigsaw in there?

It’s a sauna indeed. I didn’t build an oven yet and the sauna works fine for that purpose.
The baow isn’t cut to length yet there will be a bit less reflex.
The hole in the riser was just part of shaping the handle

Hi there,
I roughed out the handle yesterday. I checked the tiller with a length of 62" (I was affraid of the bow coming in too heavy. But it actually came pretty close). Tiller was way off! So I played a little around untill I got something fairly even.
Today I am gluing tips reinforcement and then will cut to the final length of 60".

Looking good.

Looking good there brother across the pond
-
Looks great, can't wait to get a shooting report! Looks kinda rad. :)
-
Looking good! Question for you. You said the tiller was way off, are you guys making tiller adjustments by removing material off the sides of the limbs, as to not loose too much fiberglass off the belly?

Nice!!!
Looking forward to seeing it finished
-
Good looking bow, as others have said, can't wait to see it finished.

Yes that is right, I sanded down the side of the lumbs
-
Update today with tips gled at 60”. Getting close with still a couple pounds to loose until desired draw weight. Really happy about the way it’s coming along so far:
-
Looking good! Got some Pom-Poms there. Makes me think I need some fuzzy dice string silencers
-
I like the limb profile are you tillering in positive tiller the bottom limb looks a lot stiffer from the pic maybe its just the pic ?

Fuzzy dice.... hmmmmm
-
Fuzzy Dice?? Could start a new trend...
-
I really like the way that turned out. How’s it shoot?

Yes that's what I do. It's only my second bow so I am no expert but I will not want to sand down the fiber unless the bow comes out really over expected poundage
-
Did not have much time to work on the bow lately.
First shooting report says it's not a quiet bow if there is no POM POM on the string! but fairly fast. But well, it's hard to compare to any other bow I know since this one is only 34#@28" (for the wife). The only other bow I could compare it with is an old 30# yellow fiber glass bear bow. Of course the bear bow is not as loud but certainly not as fast neither.
I guess I'll just have to build a 50# with the same design to know what it's really worth. I would probably make it 58". I'm thinking shorter would reduce a little bit preload

Here are a couple pictures of the finished bow. I made a new string with less strand off astro and it really quieted the bow down.
Hard to take pictures that do the nice wood justice with such a shiny finish, but the wife is really happy with it. And that’s what really counts
-
Turned out very nice, what kind of finish are you using?
-
This one shows a little better
-
I am using 2 components PU in rattle can (automotive stuff). I am happy with the result. It’s durable. But Not really economical. Approximately 1 can a bow. 20€/ can.
But i don’t have a compressor and this gets the job done
-
That's super purty!...nice job! I like the overlays on the belly too
-
Beautiful!, I might have missed it earlier in the thread but what are your riser woods?
-
That is really sharp looking :notworthy:
I keep offering to make my wife a bow, so far no interest :deadhorse:

Kingwood and amaranth
