The St Jude's hog hunt is scheduled for mid-March and since deer season has wrapped on the lease, I have been getting things ready. Put a couple feeders and cameras out last weekend by a couple of my stands. Ran back out there today to take care of a few things and swapped cards on one of the cameras. Didn't take long for the hogs to find the corn. Most of the pictures were at night but they started coming in during daylight and at dusk the last couple of days. Plenty of time for them to get on our schedule!! There's definitely no shortage of hogs out there, so it should be a great hunt.

Looks like it will make for a great hunt!
Get 'em!
Looking forward to reading about it.
BTW, if you will click 'insert attachment' you pics will show up not as thumbnails. You can still do it by clicking the modify option and then clicking attachments under the typing box.
Ok. I'll take care of that when I get home.
Looks great Jeremy, we are getting ready for the trip also!

Where is this hunt?
This is a hunt that was auctioned in the annual St. Jude's auction here on TradGang. It's going to take place on my hunting lease in south central Louisiana.
Hmmmm....wish I would have bid on this!!!
Can't wait to hear about it!
Good luck everyone!!!!
Things are looking good!
We can't wait to get there!!
Made a little trip out there today to fix a feeder. Forgot a card so didn't check the camera. Still a little wet but its drying up.

It was a great weekend! I'm going to let Thad give the recap.
Thad, those broadheads look wicked. Looking forward to hearing about your hunt!
C'aint wait!
Well... we just got home and ate some dinner.. thanks to Lil Thad (T-Thad)
The hunt was amazing and the company was even better!
I can't thank Jeremy and the crew he put together enough for the work that they put in to this trip.
I will try to get some time tomorrow to tell the story...
For dinner tonight we had fresh pork tenderloin and alligator pistolettes!

Wow Thad, you are becoming a pig meister :)
Haha, Thanks Doc :biglaugh:
Thursday afternoon we made the trip from the airport in Baton Rouge to the camp up at Chocot State Park.
On the way up we stopped and picked up some boudin balls at a local station and they were delicious!
They had a very Louisiana menu...

The next day started with a little fishing and soon we were off to the lease to start hunting for some hogs!
I went with Jeremy to start moving some stands around for the evening hunt and Lil Thad went with Paul (Jeremy's Father in law) and got set up in stand.
We didn't go very far before we saw our 1st group of hogs and the stalk ended quick after they winded me...
Jeremy did end up getting us in front of them and we waited along the backside of the palmettos and could hear them coming through...
It wasn't long and I could hear them in front of me and soon I could see the head of one... all I had to do is shoot through one palmetto and I had him... I drew, I looked at the center of the palmetto and I smoked it! Missed the pig but smoked the palmetto right where I was looking! I picked up my arrow, hung my head for a few and got back at it.
We moved the stand and started working our way back through the lease and got on another large group.
I got to stalk up to within 40yds and the large boar caught my wind and made his way across the creek and took the sow with him. The only thing they left were 9 or so piglets they left to entertain me.
No pigs were harmed the first day but we sure put the damage on 35lbs of crawfish!
Thanks again Paul for bringing these and for you and Travis cooking them up!!! Unbelievable!

Travis and Paul V. Did a great job on Friday night's dinner. Boiled crawfish with corn, potatoes, mushroom, and garlic! Travis also cooked up a shrimp and crawfish etoufee. For dessert we had pecan pie, king cake, and, thanks to our guests, an assortment of Hershey's and Reese's chocolate bars. I would also like to thank Paul's dad for donating the crawfish for a great cause.
Jeremy, you Cajuns sure know how to do it up right!!!! Can't wait for the rest of the story.
Bisch
All this food looks delicious!
The next day Jay showed up and took us fishing (thanks for leaving your boat Travis) while Jeremy and Paul fished out of their boat. No fish were harmed but we did get to check out some great scenery!

That afternoon we headed back to the lease with a new plan... spot and stalk!
We made it to the 1st crossroads where we started glassing when we saw lil Thads hog.
I made the quick choice for him to use a gun instead of his recurve for the shot, it was fast and clean!
I was very proud to say the least..
I know the rules here and will not post a hero pic with him because of how the hog was taken unless I get the approval from Terry.
After we got him loaded up, we were off to see if we could get one into bow range...
After seeing three more groups of hogs and one failed stalk, we finally saw a large group and the wind was good!
The sun was going down fast and we were on the move to try and close the distance..
By the time we reached them it was about dark, we did get within 15yds but the only shot would of ben through the green briars and I held him off...
What an amazing stalk though, our hearts were racing while we were trying not to make any noise going through those palmettos!!
That evening I just kept thinking about the gumbo that Jeremy's buddy's were cooking back at the cabin.
All we had to do is get out of the woods and make the 30 min drive back...

Haha, after we worked our way out we finally got to taste that Gumbo and it was worth waiting for!

Half served over rice and half served over potato salad, Delicious!!
What an amazing day!!!

For some reason I can't upload pictures. We probably saw over 50 hogs on the weekend. Weather cooperated, hogs cooperated, fish and wind direction did not! I do regret that Thad and Tee Thad didn't get to fish out of the nicer of the boats!
Now this is the kind of stuff that make these hunts for me, IMO!!!
Very cool!!!
Congrats Thadeus on your hog. Keep it coming Thad.
Hanging out with Jeremy, Jay, Travis, and company is worth the price of admission whatever it is. Glad you guys had a good time.
