Title: A Perfect Day...
Post by: Dick in Seattle on March 31, 2008, 10:40:00 PM
Big smiling going on here.   Our weather has been so weird, with snow in spring in Seattle.    Today the word was that the sun would be out until mid to late afternoon, and it would be mild, so Ann dropped me at the range while she and a friend went off to find a yarn store.    I had set up my Pinnacle riser with a new brush rest and 45# limbs... pulling 42# for me, which is a bit on the edge for my shoulder, but I want to be able to shoot my old heavy wood arrows at Moses Lake.

The bow as set up will handle the woods... they might want a bit more poundage for a perfect match, but hey, I can shoot them.   I did two and a third circuits, or 48 targets, and shot over 150 arrows, and my shoulder is still on reasonably friendly terms with me.   This is good.  I found, as expected, that I just couldn't pull off the long shots I can with the light carbons, but I still managed a lot of good shots and used the shooting to get used to this setup with these arrows.  I hope to get out every chance I can over the next three weeks so that I'll be really "tuned in" for Moses Lake.

In case you weren't aware, 150 shots at 42 pounds equals 6800 pounds of free pull!!!   That, plus two and a third times around the course, up and down hill, and I was really ready to crash when I came out... (I'm diabetic).  I grabbed a Snickers bar at the shack, then, when Ann and our friend picked me up, had a Mexican lunch (I don't normally eat a lunch), complete with my first beer since last summer, then a heavily creamed Starbuck's coffee.    After all that, I figured no dinner for me tonight, but my evening reading was still fairly low!    I don't even want to think about what my reading must have been when I came out of the woods  :^)

Anyhow, a terrific day... the sun shone, the woods were just cool with a sweater, I shot well and had a good time, really, really enjoyed the Mexican food and the beer... and on the way home, the temperature plummeted and it snowed again!!!  Some days are just perfect!

Good for you Dick. I certainly am looking forward to shooting again and it snowed here today too.

Great story Dick. I'll try to send some sunshine your way. This afternoon was beautiful after the storms we had last night.

Sounds like a great day.  We've had some flurries here the past few days as well.  See you at the Moses Lake shoot.

thanks, guys

Whitetial chaser... get rid of that snow for me, will you?  I'm coming over on Wed. afternoon.    I've already started watching the weather there...  the 32 degrees at night and 40's in the daytime I can handle, but snow would be a bit much!
