That boo looks to be left hand boo.
If your victim is right handed, that piece of boo will not work.
I sent a PM but don't keep any pink lettering.... :biglaugh:

First you gotta learn to draw straighter lines on that cheap maple you gots... :biglaugh:
Is that tamo ash Lonnie?
OK . Here’s a deal for anybody thinkin about it and ain’t in yet...
I’ll furnish glass and lams for one bowyer that I will have my lovely assistant draw a name for . Or some Osage for a trilam, sorry , got no staves.
I figgered somebody would probably remember this so I had a number picked.
Now I need a victim, and the drawing winner needs a victim :biglaugh:....
Hey Lonnie, if no one wants that curly wood, I’ll take it. :goldtooth:

Man Lonnie I can’t wait to see those finished. Currently the snow is thigh deep between the house and shop. So not much progress in these parts.

I feel like a kid looking at the coins in the bottom of a fountain, with all these pretty woods you guys are showing off. Setting the bar high! So is the tease, part of the deal with the anonymous exchange?
If so, I got to get to work

Yes, fan is always on too. You can kinda see it in the photo. The tiles create an air channel while avoiding hot spots.
I see you now:)
Is that a forward handle 4Point ? Looks great
Looks like we have some serious over achievers moving out. Looks like I’ll be in the second wave at best. Still trying to decide what I want to even make. This is a heavy decision. Can’t rush it.

Well unless I find some pink leather for the grip my victim will have to deal with red elm and osage.

Bue that looks good.
Got my care package from Kenny today. Haven’t unwrapped my cores yet but knowing Kenny I’m gonna wish I was doing clear glass instead of bamboo.
On a side note- Kenny your packaging is much beyond what I would expect. Everything arrived safely and meticulously. I appreciate the time you put into that aspect of the process. Thanks again.

I'm rethinking my plan- you guys have REALLY raised the bar :banghead:
I have the first layer of my overlay on the riser with epoxy curing. Tomorrow, the Good Lord willing, I will get the second layer on and clamped

Put a purty pink accent stripe in the riser.I could make some pink micarta for that, or I could inlay a big pink heart
Might try gluing this mess up tomorrow. Hope I can remember where all those pieces go!

I'm thinking they'll be a few less than pleasant words said while trying to keep everything in place when its all greased up with glue.
I was really on the fence about this but my buddy was pretty adamant about leaving it.... I sure hope my victim likes blue.I hope your victim is a smurf.
I'm mostly a hunter, I shoot a lot in the off season as well as going to a few 3d shoots.
I like the blue Lonnie, it's even two tone!
Glued all my pieces together today and they all stayed in place. There was a point when I almost broke out the stapler as lonnie suggested. It's a little over poundage but I think by the time its tillered and the edges rounded it'll be about perfect.
Even has a little pink in her.

It's supposed to eliminate the possibility of static in the PVC. I have it run from each pipe end to the vacuum body.
Lonnie, take it to a machine shop and have them drill it out and put a helicoil in it?
Never had a yew bow :dunno:

Skeat, that is too bad. When gluing up something I always tell myself to double check, but still I mess up sometimes. My latest was getting saran wrap between the glass and wood. :banghead:
Nice looking risers David and Yew is always nice.
4 point, almost finished, looking great.
Man! I want to go to Norway, just to check out Bue's shop.
4point,you said it right. Not a dog in the bunch. But those blue limbs, take the cake.I was thinkin the same thing. Ol Lonnie trying to pull a fast one. Swapped out those snazzy limbs for the smurf ones.
tried sumthin new today. fingers crossed it doesn't blow up on the tree
It's okay I guess :bigsmyl:
I used stretch wrap to put together a longbow. Plenty tight and the glue joints look good. Just a slight crown towards the limb tips but I think it'll be okay. Something I wanted to test - definitely not swap worthy, especially seeing the works of art so far :clapper:
Wow! That looks like modern art Kennym. I wish I could picture what those combos would look like, but my mind is blown out :notworthy:

Mike and Lonnie, I'll bet you guys go through a lot of that wood hardener, huh?Bowyers Viagra?

If my gauge is right 27.5. If you get 30 I would say you got a really strong pump. The maple takes on the juice till it wont float.
I will have a bit left over for youins that want to try it on sumpin else. Better wear prtection though :scared:
Never thought elevation would matter that much in a closed system. What does your pump do independently ?
I may have to resort to Plan B after all, that's pathetic. You blaming the Bow? :biglaugh:
Roy might think less of me. :laughing:I’m not sure that’s possible :dunno:
Not a bad group, for 3 yards:)
Solvent based finishes most times will stick to oily woods without sealer.
What finish you using Lonnie?
I have Shellac and have worked with it some. My experience is that, regardless of how I apply it, it globs on really thick and never seems to dry correctly so I end up stripping it back off and starting over. Can it be thinned?

Very nice, Dannon.
I really enjoy seeing the risers you glass guys put together.
Almost makes me wanna make a glass bow.
Dannon save your cut off pieces from the pads and use them to clamp your limb pad pieces on. Gives a flat surface and things dont slip around as bad. That’s what I was doing but the still tend to slide around a little bit. Thanks for the kind words guys!
Ya making another squid handle?Nope. Dug out my other form.
LOL picken on an old man when he's down.
If you do, make an invoice and put a copy in the box!! And you need to show they paid for it!
all right guys I need help. I cant decide what to build. you might want to input since it might just be your bow. T/D longbow, one piece longbow, selfbow, bamboo backed bow or short D/R longbow ala Kenny design?Yep.

Think I'd cut that apart and try again, Ben?
It depends for me Cody. Z’s are stronger but are more noticeable. If I have a thick riser and I’m not worried about strength I do a scarf joint.
Go with the z if you are putting a handle wrap on it.
So do we ship when finished or wait for awhile??
The Z splice is no more visible than a scarf joint and 10 times stronger than a scarf joint.
Z splice below.
I certainly see the need for a Z splice in a Tri-lam but not sure it would be necessary in a glass bow since you really only need the scarf to hold things place while you get clamped down?
Absolutely true. I believe Roy and Ben were both referring to all wood bows.
I may try it for fun sometime. How many got hit by lightnin before they made it outa the shop? :biglaugh:
Been over a 100 bows come out of my shop with the Z splice and no problems though.

That sucks Dannon, sorry to hear it. That is a cool looking veneer, what is it?It was white ash. Makes me sick!
Dannon I guess you win for havin the purtiest core wood. :oBvas
If it’s any consolation, I think the edge grain maple? looks just fine as a veneer
Well.....Aside from a final sanding,I think everything is ready to go. Hopefully I have time tomorrow to get this thing glued up.I really like that riser design. Never seen one like that. Pretty creative. I’m interested to see how it turns out.
Well I ran into a little problem this morning. Glued a limb up last night for my victims bow and pulled it out of the oven this morning. Took it out of the form and cleaned the edges up and started removing the tape. The back of the the limb looked really good. Loved the look of the veneers I got from Kenny. Turned the limbbober and started to peel the tape from the belly of the limb and noticed immediately something didn’t look right. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: I flipped the veneer and the lam and didn’t realize it! No matter how many times I went over in my head how to lay up this limb I still screwed it up.

It looks like the maple is on the belly side and I agree with others, if it were for me that would not bother me a bit. Just give your best PeeWee Herman "I meant to do that" and duplicate on the other limb.

The looks nice goober. Simple, elegant lines. :thumbsup:X2
Thanks gentlemen :thumbsup:Curious why you put in a I-beam? Cosmetic or structural?
First ASL, I-beam, and maybe a skin. Draws smooth so far but about 12# over weight. Just might come in a tad heavy. Plan B will be a hybrid as I have made a few of those
Simple, elegant lines. He did mention a skin :scared:

Geez Roy... yeah that makes perfect sense, build the bow out of plastic and rotten wood. You still taking those pain pills?:biglaugh:

I've seen normal and I don't like it.
Ya otta seen the young blond Sports Hip Specialist doctor...
I forgot what I was there for when she checked me out from the waist down.
That's one heck of a pipe wrench:)It was one heck of a twist.
If that wrench don't do it you can always hang the motor on it. :)That’s one way to get more horse power in a selfbow :o
How much weight did you hang on it? I have one with a nasty twist too that I need to finish some day.Don't know. :dunno: The wrench is pretty heavy and I hung a small bucket about half full of water on it. Wrapped wet rag covered with foil around area I wanted to twist and heated with heat gun until it twisted to where I wanted it. Let it cool overnight before taking wrench off. Appeared to be around 20 deg of twist.
If that wrench don't do it you can always hang the motor on it. :)Was afraid that the spun rod bearing in that motor would cause weird hand shock. :jumper:

Out of the form and looking pretty good. I did have a little slide down with the belly lams. I think with a little creative contouring it will be alright. If not, I guess I get a new bow :bigsmyl:
Hopefully I will have time and it warms up this weekend to get the limbs profiled. I use a 4” grinder with a flap disc to get close, so it’s done outdoors. And I ain’t standing outside in 10-15 degree temps to do it.

Are you concerned about the thin spots of glue or the thick spots, Ben?
Some bows are built with one limb shorter than the other, you could adopt that for this bow? I have a Striker Stinger which is built like that and I really love shooting it. Or am I misunderstanding what slid? It’s nothing that will effect bow length. The lams just slid down the belly ramps a little. I’ll just hafta lose a little more of the riser to get to the lam ends. The sight window side is no problem. It’s the grip side that has me concerned.Out of the form and looking pretty good. I did have a little slide down with the belly lams. I saw Canopy's post about his 2 pc takedown problem from 2016. I didn't look at the link because I didn't want to be deterred from taking on this 2 pc. Sooo since my bow is now cut in 2, I looked at the link. Now I'm nervous. Hopefully my glass-less tenon holds up. I've seen many examples of all wood bows working, but I'm still nervous.....Fingers crossed.
Brad -- Some words of encouragement?
1 - Your tenon looks way more massive than mine did.
2 - You've got more osage in there.
3 - At least mine came apart (the other risk with what you're about to do.)
4 - If it does break, it will probably happen slowly; you'll have lots of warning.
Seriously, I think you'll be fine, but I've still got my fingers crossed for you. I have not built an all-wood one since or ever will. Once burned, twice shy...
LOL
Yer on the second cup of hot chocolate haint ya, Dave...
Watch it, don’t call me Roy!Yea. What he said :biglaugh:

Looks like the Pink is working. How far you pulling that.
I would like to find the Stout myself. :biglaugh:

300 reps on the tree gives ya quite the workout.
Roy- that crack was the Universe telling you that you forgot the pink.
well, at the start of this thing...I thought...why not do something I've never done before. I've always wanted to build a hill style longbow so I thought why not? so, I built a form and pulled the prototype bow off the form today. Thanks to some on here for tips on layup, I was able to hit #50 right off the form. once I sand it, i'll probably lose a couple pounds but overall, came out right where I wanted it...so I've pretty much set on one of these or a selfbow for the trade...just need to make a decision and go with it.
Nah, I gots me one of them turkey/fishen reels on my bow and a big magnet on the tip of the arrow..I think I saw that in a cartoon once. But it was a suction cup arrow.
Who ever gets it better hope UPS takes a bit more care than they did shipping my piece of expensive UHMW channel.I’d say Grainger got it done :biglaugh:
Ben, that is looking great. I just hope you get my address correct.

Thats beautiful, Ben. You putting a hand rubbed vaseline finish on it? :cheesy:Lol. I was going to crop that out of the photo, but figured I would leave in there to see if anyone noticed it and felt clever. You are the lucky winner Flem!
And just to make sure I met the pink requirements :archer2:
Lookin great guys
I have much to learn
Got second swap bow glued up yesterday.
Whizzes me off I should be done already.
Didn't take pictures, can't find the camera.
Egads! Hope your lungs ain't yellow :o. Did you build that edge sander? Looks nice.
I'm going on round two. Actually have real Walnut this time around. Did learn that Butternut will make a good kids Bow :banghead:
Going to have to decide on a riser
Still need to layup some glass. Hopefully tomorrow. Need to get this thing done.
here is one I did using the superglue sealer.
Thats a beauty for sure Dannon. Down side of making a really nice bow, is having to part with it.
I hope this second swap bow works out cause I'm out of dry Osage...Bet a certain fellar in Missouri can help ya out if’n another storm passes thru the bow shop.
:knothead:
Think he's tapped out.
Still can't find the camera.
Still trying to figure out how to use Roy’s camera.
Didn't know you could take selfies with those cameras :goldtooth:
Awesome!! It's almost as fun as waiting on my own was
OK , the tips will stay, but I may paint them black before spraying finish... :)Geeze. I didn’t even get to vote. Guess it’s not comin here
Awesome!! It's almost as fun as waiting on my own was
I think we should all be excited about this one. It might be the best of the swap.

Yup, me too. And yet I still think this one might be worth you and I getting excited about...
What are you making there, Cody?
Looks like you got some Osage and Cherry
If these splices don’t hold up it will set me back a week to do that. Thanks for the info Roy, it’s not in vain just beyond my tools abilities at the moment.

This is quite the hype you’re building. Somebody’s gonna get an awesome bow this week.

The elk was taken with wheels.
Funny how I can hit that little target and beer cans, but I can shoot dozens of arrows at grouse and I have only ever hit one. 🤔
Dave.
Ya got grouse panic...I don’t panic, I just miss the little buggers!
You sure thats not a mini still
Appears that I can dial back my glue next time by about 50%.
Well I'm sidelined again, somehow screwed up my back again yesterday.
Only got 1 hour sleep last night.
Tired of this crap.
Sorry about that Roy. That's when pain really hurts when it prevents you from doing what you want to do.
An update on my bow: I'm going to start another one. There was a very small spot that I noticed after I applied the finish. It's too small to be captured with a picture. I didn't know if it was a small splinter or what but figured I would shoot it in and monitor it. I shot the bow a couple hundred times over the past 2 weeks and the spot hasn't changed at all but I just realized that I will never trust it 100%, so I'm starting a new one. No sympathies are needed. I'll keep the bow and shoot it myself, I just want to be the one to take that small chance that it turns into something, not my victim.

I think I better send over a couple of them Norwegian blond babes to cheer you up :goldtooth:
I use a thin, narrow body putty plastic spreader or a thin piece of bow making glass.
Dog gone it Roy these are the golden years :saywhat:
Kenny could probably grind off the old sleeve and re wrap it.
WOW a picture:)
Get fixed you old fart. 1 or more of us will cover if needed. I'm working on 2 more at the moment. Should be done in 6 weeks
That looks to be lined up really good. I feel like I helped on this one :bigsmyl:
Cody, I told you to taper the core.
You never listen...
Make those facets wider and deeper.
Don't even try to string a bow that's way too heavy.
The string will never hold it first of all and you don't want to string it till it's been tillered on the tillering tree with a long string.
pulling for you buddy....hope you get it all fixed and get back up and at them. but if you have to do yoga I'm sure you'll rock the yoga pants. they come in all the colors of the rainbow :o
How many bows have been shipped by now?
Was it 18 guys who signed up for the swap?

I was curious where the Koa was native too. Holy Crap! That stuff is the platinum of woods! And the curly stuff is beyond exotic.
Who ever gets Dave's bow is going to need a security detail to take it out of the house. :notworthy:
I don't believe that at all...
I don't believe that at all...
More importantly, the OLDER the pipe, hose, or pressure vessel, the more likely it is to burst at lower pressure.
:readit:
He's right Roy.
What kind of bow you got going on there Dave?
What kind of bow you got going on there Dave?
Reverse handle Hill style ASL.
Nice, is that the BearPaw glass?
Ben- if you remove that tape you won't have to try so many times :laughing:LOL.
Grooves are for better adhesion correct ? I haven't seen that done before.
Bow does look nice Dave. What's that device it's resting on?
Koa Koa Koa. Looking at your bow Dave, I just noticed an advantage of the forward handle. No cutting glass!
Thats got to make the lay-up easier. I'm a little slow sometimes :knothead:
Dremel tool with cut off wheel works good too.
Mine is about to ship in the next 21 days...Lol.
My play time with the swap bow is officially over.
USPS says someone should have a new bow on Friday.
It’s up to USPS to break it now :biglaugh:My play time with the swap bow is officially over.

Brad, you should have broken one or 2. This is when things really start getting fun.... :scared:

Or a giant size slim jim.
Ole stickypops might be into maken beef jerky or somepen.
One guy on here is maken yew knitting needles.
Nother guy got pink chaps.
Nother guy on here models his hot jammies while shooten his stick.
I dunno bout this place.
Dang it, just realized I forgot to tint the epoxy....
I'll ship to ya when I'm done Turkey hunting with it.:biglaugh:
Still sitting at about 1” of set after ~50 shots. Getting weight off the tips reduced the shock by quite a bit. Was shooting 400-650g arrows with similar performance and accuracy. Gonna be a shame to ship this one off. Gonna keep some suspense so I apologize in advance to Roy, but no more pictures until she’s done. Gonna get her all dressed up with the details now.
Tried to take a few more scrapes and got my tiller off. Fixed that and now it’s looking good again. Worked the limbs down to 220 grit on the belly and that helped a bit more. Doesn’t seem to be stacking as I feared.
I’m happy with it at this point with the bumps and bruises that happened with my rookie mistakes. Get back at it again tomorrow.

Well, I do not wear jammies, but just to satisfy a couple of fellas I found an old pair in closet, kind of sexy eh?

I'm a little confused Goob, so that beautiful pink bow you built for Ole Roy didn't count as your trade bow?
I don't like the guy I gotta send it too:)

Gonna ship my swapbow out this week.
Shot it some today, fast, smooth, accurate, and quiet, but a tad heavy for my old arse......
Who wants it?
I don't like the guy I gotta send it too:)
:wavey: :wavey: :biglaugh: :wavey: :wavey:
Roy, you never need to ask for my opinion, I will always offer it up freely :goldtooth::laughing:
yew too.
It matches well with the boo.
Flem, it’s all fun n games til Roy gets his whoopin stick out... lol
Really dont care what color my bow is
LOL.
He's signed into tg, I sent him a pm and a phone text. But no reply.
He might be playing with it...
He could be running the woods naked with euphoria. That's what i would do. If only he had a nice pair of chaps to ward off the burrs and thorns :scared:
Looking good guys :clapper:
Ben you actually gonna let this one go
Whats our deadline? :bigsmyl:
I'm going to be pushing it to the end. Glad to see I'm not the only one. You would think it's tax time!
Wow there's some nice stuff getting finished up! Ben that is a good look'n bow! Roy and you are making me want to try my hand at one of those glassless bows.
mmmmm , 2 days... To mo about 2 days... :):dunno: Lots a place's only 2 days from here.
I'm gonna call and tell yer wife:)I'll be in trouble if it still stinks when she gets home! This will be a good test of what I can get away with.
Got the last coat on. The greenhouse was up to 90deg. Flashed off in less than 10min. Hopefully we won't be eating toxic greens for dinner :scared:
Well, in my excitement last night I accidentally inked my daughter's bow with my victim's name as well.
We used rexthane once for the floors in our house, talk about getting high.
OMG...
Never used it again...

Big day for us procrastinators! Last day to ship on time.
I need to rub out the finish and put it in a tube still. Dang, big day to get a lot done before the PO closes...
Correction, Renee says I have a tube leaning against shop door , will be a bit before I find out who or what it is...Maybe Roy sent you his thumping stic, since his back is hurting too much to use it effectively.... :deadhorse:
Shipped this morning. Receipt says it will be there on Monday. Seems optimistic, I would guess Tuesday
Just stick yer finger out:)You know sumtin I don’t?
But it went to Louisiana to Ben.
That's okay Dave, I might have the same plan. Noticed a blemish on a limb :banghead:
The tube contained a sweet yew selfie from Mr . BennetPics or it dint happen as Roy would say.
First yew bow I’ve had and I love it!!
The creamy ivory back and rich belly make her beautiful..
Looks like horn tips but light colored to compliment the yew.
Masterfully done bro!! :) :)
This is pretty cool with all these bows getting shipped and received.
Come on pap pap get the camera out if the sock drawer.
Steve, I've used cow horn in the past. A farmer friend gave me some horn tips they cut off young bulls. There were some pretty colorful tips in the bunch he gave me. Wish he could get me more.
Soy, have you ever tried tapatalk app on your phone?
It's real easy to post pictures from tapatalk as the app does an auto resize.
Damn! I don't have a Mailman. Oh well.
If your looking for pipe for shipping, this is what you want. Not as heavy as PVC.
No way gents !!
Still have a deceased laptop. Will send pics via gmail I guess and ask a posting favor. Just graduated my youngest kid so things might FINALLY slow down a touch
Not many more bows to be received, but I still have no idea who built for me :dunno:
Thanks guys....I need to get me one of those shirts Mr. Goob.
Not many more bows to be received, but I still have no idea who built for me :dunno:. I'll be happy with any of them though.
I dunno, Squid may be iffy.I meant in the swap.
 :wavey:
Maybe I'll get yer name too...I’d proudly tote one of your bows to the woods on a nice sunny day
:wavey:
Looks like mine should show up tomorrow.
That is one nice looking bow there Roy. Seems I remember something about the pink accents :bigsmyl: Good job Dave.
Forgot to say that Dave included a nice short note...
But can't repeat it.
62" Crafter from Johnny G at Old Master CraftersHeeeyyyy :biglaugh:
I made that one 63" to accommodate the knuckle-dragger
:dunno:
