Title: Using foam instead of inflated hose on bow form/press.

I recently saw a YouTube video of a guy using what looked like yoga mat foam in the upper side of his r/d bow press.  He used a jack on the bottom to apply pressure and used clamps to keep the pressure after removing the jack.   I can't for the life of me find that video again.  Has anyone done this before?  Seems like an easy way to get even pressure on the laminations, but probably not a good idea for the heat box.  I'm really interested because the idea of not having to worry about buying several hoses for different size projects is cost effective, but also, there's no risk of losing pressure from the hose or having the end pop out.  Let me know what you think.

I can't help with the question but am curious about your statement on needing several size hoses. I have only two sizes, one for one piece bows and one for take down. Can you explain what other sizes you are referring too?

I have 4 hoses 2 long and 2 short. two are back ups in case the other loses air.

Well, recurve and long bow single piece take different sizes.   Started with recurve, so that'll automatically make for two hoses.  Then with a takedown, a set of two. Bingham sells a ton of different sizes because I imagine a bunch of hose sticking out of your press makes it harder to deal with in the heat box.  Not to mention, doing more than one at a time would be nice. 

Using foam instead makes the hole setup modular and self contained.  The foam is attached to the form, with the metal strip attached to it. It's probably more efficient, if it's doable. Certainly might make it easier on a one man operation.  I'm just skeptical about a foam that will maintain pressure under heat.

I can see I'm under hosed  :laugh: I only have one hose for 2 different forms I can do bows 68" to 58" , at least for me when I switched form set up took me 3 bows & 1 failure to get dialed in & in the end cost me more $$ then had I stuck with a proven method but then again I would have missed all the fun  :banghead:
