Folks, the 15th Howard Hill Classic will be May 31, June 1 & 2, 2019.
There will be some very exciting changes made this year and I'll be letting you know very soon what they will be.
But I will say one of the BIGGEST will be that the IBO Mid America will also be at Tannehill as well.
MUCH MORE TO COME!!!
Terry Harris

:bigsmyl: interesting thanks Terry
-
I have marked the calendar. See you at the end of May.
-
Bringing this one back to the top. This is one of the better shoots in the Southeast. It is worth the ride from wherever you live. Come on down!
-
By the way, all targets this year will be new Rinehart Targets.

-
Folks, I've been working with Levy Bryant, with the IBO, and discussing the IBO Divisions.
This year's Howard Hill Classic will be adding divisions to coincide with the IBO. For example there now will be a Recurve Unlimited Class as well as others.
There are other exciting announcements coming.
Terry Harris
-
Here's one of the major changes for this year's Howard Hill Classic.
In addition to the Divisions that have always been in place, here are some added Classes to coincide with the IBO.
Men's & Women's Recurve Unlimited
Men's Modern Longbow
Men's Sr. Traditional
The Men's Modern Longbow will allow three piece takedowns, wood, carbon & aluminum arrows.
Men's Longbow will consist of allowing the takedown (breaking down at the handle) and wooden arrows only.
The Men's Sr Traditional ( 62 years & older) allows all arrows
Men's Sr wood arrows only.
There may be other changes after finalizing thing with Levy Bryant with the IBO.
Should be exciting!!

Other bows being donated for raffling off, a Big Jim Custom Longbow and a DAS Bow from 3Rivers Archery.
Thanks guys for your support.
More information to come!
Terry Harris
-
Well, well, looks like the IBO has also talking about a Vintage Bow Class as well. I'll look into this and if they have, the Howard Hill Classic will have it.
I'll certainly post the details on this as well on this later.
Terry Harris
-
Folks, all in all, there will be 15 classes for competition at this year's Howard Hill Classic.
FIVE of these have never been here before. As I said earlier, if the IBO has it, I'm trying to coincide so when you come and have a class that hasn't been here before, it will be here now.
I'll also be displaying the newly designed Howard Hill Classic plaque pretty soon, I believe you will really like it.
I'll also be displaying a photo of the 1st Place Belt Buckles.

For the of you that have never been to the Howard Hill Classic, I feel you're in for a tremendous time shooting your bow.
On my Howard Hill Classic course, I've always tried to set up a challenging, yet fun course. Good hunting shots, set up for left & right handed archers. I also try and make sure that the limbs on that archers bow won't be striking anything in it's way.
NOW, you might come up to a stake on a few targets and look down to the target and say, "part of the kill zone is covered". Don't worry, with a foot on the shooting stake, you might have to adjust or lean over just a little, but I always have the entire kill zone wide open. TAHT'S WHAT REAL HUNTING SHOTS LOOK LIKE, RIGHT!?
Come, you'll not regret it.
-
Levy Bryant as well as Shana Wilson are really getting pumped about holding the IBO Mid America here in Alabama, along with the Howard Hill Classic.
I'm kinda getting excited myself.

Hi everyone, I started another thread about pesky gnats at our archery events.
"Folks, for those of you that have been to the Howard Hill Classic in June, there has been a problem with gnats.
I really believe I have found a solution to help solve this problem for you.
At this year's Howard Hill Classic, I'll have bandanas and bug spray I'll give you free.
I've worn a bandana for years, while being out on the range all day putting out targets and never had gnats get in my face.
I spray the front of my bandana and the gnats stay away from my face.
If you spray you hat rim or cap bill it also works."
Now I know there are many other remedies that many of you use, I'm just trying to offer a solution for you, FREE.
I'd like to thank Heather with "Planet Apparel" who has given me an outstanding price on the bandanas so I can give them to you.

Thanks Daniel, by the way.
Folks, just received the plaques in for the 2019 Howard Hill Classic.
Yes, I ordered early but I want to showcase the new design, especially for the new classes that have been added to the HH Classic.
I'll be posting a couple of photos a little later, not only of one of the plaques, BUT, I'll also be posting a photo of one of the "American Traditional Archer", Howard Hill Classic 1st Place buckles.

NOW, let me clarify in case there was some confusion about qualifying for the Championship Shoot Down..
At some other IBO events, there has been what is called a "Hunters Challenge" course you'd have to shoot if you wanted to qualify for the Saturday Championship Shoot Down.
There won't be a "Hunters Challenge" course, the "Howard Hill Classic" course will be THAT course one will have to shoot to qualify for the Shoot Down.
So, every class will be represented at the Howard Hill Classic, your 1st round automatically puts you into the competition to see if you qualify for the Shoot Down, as well as enters for into the Howard Hill Classic competition.
When you register at the HH Classic table, there will be an all day shooting fee (if you just want to shoot one day) or special weekend rates for singles and families. These rates entitle you to shoot either all day or all weekend.
After your 1st round, you don't have to stop there. You can continue to shoot the Howard Hill Classic to improve your HH Classic score if you'd like or just shoot for fun, YOUR CHOICE.
-
BTW folks, when you enter Tannehill Historical during business hours, you'll be greeted by the friendly Park gate keeper.
If you're camping, there's no other fee to enter the Park. If you're not camping in the Park, you'll pay a one time fee and then pick up a Park Pass from our registration area some you can come and go as you please.
If you come after hours, you can set up your camping and then go to the General Store the next morning and pay to camp then.

Wow, GREAT NEWS for you men & women self bow shooters. Even though I've always had those two self bow classes at the HH Classic, The IBO has not, especially for the women. But maybe in the future for both, in the meantime, here's a pretty good idea.
Levy Bryant with the IBO, has just let me know that there will be a men and women's self bow shoot down on Saturday afternoon, time yet to be announced. There will also be some sort of 1st place prize, also yet to be determined.
NOW, you don't have to turn in any kind of score, JUST BRING YOUR SELF BOWS and you're in, EXCITING!!!
Terry Harris
-
Folks, more exciting news
Arvin Weaver is once again offered to sponsor the Self Bow Shootout at the IBO Mid-America / Howard Hill Classic! $250 cash with an Arvin Weaver custom self bow to be raffled. The proceeds from the raffle go into the cash prize total for the winners. Thanks Arvin. That’s going to be an awesome shootout. Bring your selfbows and get ready to have some fun. Saturday June 1st 4pm

Folks, as I mentioned earlier, the IBO is having a Men's & Women's Self Bow Shoot Down on Saturday afternoon.
The 1st Place shooters will be splitting $250.00 to start but Arvin Weaver has generously donated one of his outstanding self bows to be raffled off and the proceeds from the raffle will also be added to the $250.00.
NOW, will all that being said, there is a woman competitor, can really shoot, has informed Levy Bryant, that she can get as many as TWENTY WOMEN self bow shooters to compete. Sh'e been trying to get the IBO to have a Women's Self Bow class in the IBO for years.
I know who she is and I must say the ball is in her court. Let's show Levy that YOU CAN BRING IT GIRL, LOL.
Terry Harris

While here, lots to do and see. The sweet shop, great milkshakes and you can also ride the train from Farley Field to the front of the Park.
Lots more to come folks.

Alright folks, there will be FOUR SHOOT-DOWNS at the IBO Mid America Traditional Archery event & Howard Hill Classic
Just on Friday there will be two:
At 4:00pm IBO Last Man Standing event
At 4:30pm Women's Team Shoot: Sadie Hawkins event
On Saturday there will be two more:
At 4:00pm Arvin Weaver's Self Bow Shoot Out ~ Men & Women will split $250.00, with an Arvin Weaver Self Bow being raffled off and the proceeds being added to the $250.00
At 4:30pm Champions Showcase Shoot Down.
Folks, this is in addition to everything else going on, shooting on the IBO ranges as well as shooting the Howard Hill Classic range.
This is a don't miss event folks, mark it on your calendar.
Terry Harris
-
Alright everybody, I've explained that the HH Classic is a multi round event with the highest score you turn in counts, no matter if it is your 1st round or your last.
NOW, I'm gonna try and explain a little about how the IBO rounds are to be shot.
There will be FIVE times that IBO shooters can go out to shoot 40 targets.
There will be two times on Friday and it will be shot gun starts: First time will be 8:00am and 11:00am. Saturday will be the same, 8:00am and 11:00am.
On Sunday you can start at 8:00am, but it will not be a shotgun start.
THIS IS IMPORTANT!!
As long as you get 40 targets shot, you are finished with the IBO round. You can shoot all 40 on Friday same on Saturday, if you can get them in..
Or you can shoot 20 on Friday & 20 on Saturday.
Or you can shoot 20 Targets on Friday or Saturday and finish your 20 targets on Sunday. AS LONG AS YOU GET 40 TARGETS IN.
All other time can be spent shooting the Howard Hill Classic range if you'd like. WHEW!!!
If you have any questions, please feel free to write here, email me or call me.

All IBO times are shotgun starts. You will be assigned a stake with your peers. Shotgun starts for the IBO are Friday & Saturday 8am & 11am, and Sunday 8am.
You must shoot 40 targets, however you get them in. I suggest shooting all 40, or 20 and 20. IBO course has A & B ranges made up of 20 targets each. It will be a weekend full of shooting our bows. Can't wait.
-
Let me remind you of the SIX bows that will be raffled off over the weekend.
Arvin Weaver has donated one of his beautiful Self Bows to be raffled off with the proceeds from that to be added with the $250.00 to be split with the Men & Women winners of the Self Bow shoot-down.
Now, the other FIVE to be raffled. I have three photos I'll add here and hopefully ae adding another two shortly [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
The DAS & two bows from Bear Archery.
Big Jim has been so generous over many years by donating one of his Custom Longbows.
Bear Archery, another tremendous contributor to the Howard Hill Classic by donating bows for years as well. This year Bear Archery has donated a Bear Montana Longbow and a Bear Super Grizzly Recurve.
Johnathan Karch with 3Rivers has supported me from day one and again he has done so. Johnathan has donated a DAS Recurve.
NOW, I come to my friend Tim Mullins with Acadian Woods Bows. This year, Tim offered to build a "One of a Kind" bow to raffle of at the Howard Hill Classic. I've seen a rough cut video of this bow, all I can say is WOW!!!
Folks, together these bow are worth, not hundreds, BUT THOUSANDS of dollars.
Let me also add, there will only be a limited number of chances for the five bows I have. Each chance is $20.00 and one will be given away at different time TBA during Friday & Saturday.
Folks, I may be wrong but I don't think I've ever heard of this many bows being raffled at Traditional Archery event ANYWHERE!!!

Hi Terry. Is it going to be possible for people that can not come to get one of these shirts or is it a have to be there item?
-
Hi Mark, unfortunately I've tried holding, ordering and sending t-shirts this way, it was a lot of trouble and very time consuming for me.
I hope you understand that one would have to be here.

OK Guess I need to start saving my pennies for a trip...

Folks, going to run out to Tannehill Historical State Park this Saturday.
I'm going to walk the course to see how I plan on setting out the new Rinehart Targets.
Hopefully I can try and set a course you'll find challenging as well as fun for all to enjoy..

I feel this dual event will be outstanding for friends and family, not to mention for those that really like to compete.
DON'T MISS IT FOLKS!!!

By the way folks, you don't have to join the IBO to shoot this event.
I encourage everyone that's never shot an IBO course, do so. You'll meet some great folks and their courses are set up great.

SO, I hear from archers every year, "I'd like to see how I shot".

Folks, over the next two months, there are still some outstanding events coming up.
In less than two weeks, the Kentucky TradFest in Harrodsburg, KY, a great shoot for competition or just for fun event . Also, lots of Vendors.
Then, you certainly don't want to miss the Twin Oaks Classic in Clarksville, TN. One of the largest in the south and one of the best shoots in the Country IMO. Again, lots of Vendors.
When finished having great times at these events, catch your breath and make your traveling plans for a RARE DUAL EVENT, in one location. The HOWARD HILL CLASSIC & IBO MID AMERICA held at beautiful Tannehill State Park in McCalla, AL. Lots of Vendor will be here as well, not to mention getting to shoot with some of the best archers out there.

OK, my wife says I'm horrible a giving driving directions, let me see if I can make your experience shooting the IBO/HH Classic easy than I do for driving, LOL.
First, you don't have to join the IBO to shoot the IBO Mid America.
The IBO has two 20 target ranges, Course A & Course B. If you shoot in the IBO competition, you must shoot BOTH COURSES, 40 target total for the IBO competition. The cost is $30.00.
You have 5 different times you can do this. On Friday, the times are 8:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. On Saturday, the times are 8:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. On Sunday, only at 8:00 AM. All times are a shot gun start.
As long as you shoot both courses, it doesn't matter the times YOU choose.
The Howard Hill Classic has 25 targets and the Course opens at 7:00 AM Friday, Saturday & Sunday. If you can only shoot one day, there is an all day fee of $25.00 and you can shoot as many rounds as you can get in. There are special weekend rates for Singles & Families. Fee's for a Single weekend rate are $35.00 and Family rates are $60.00 for a family up to four, living at home. These rates entitle you to shoot as many rounds as you can get in. FOLKS the HH Classic is a multi-round shoot with you highest score you shoot over the course of the weekend counting for your competition.
NOW, if you like to compete with multiple bows, you only have to pay an extra $20.00 per bow, and you can also shoot the different bow as much as you want.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone or email.

Over the years, there have been some outstanding shooters at the Howard Hill Classic, traditional archery event.
BUT, it's not all about the competitors at this event. It is really about family, friends and camaraderie. At this year's Howard Hill Classic / IBO Mid America held at Tannehill State Park in McCalla, AL, May 31, JUNE 1 & 2, 2019 ~ I certainly expect no less from the great folks that will attend this year as well.

Well folks, I ordered the 25 brand new RINEHART targets for the HH Classic today.
They'll be delivered with the 40 RINEHARTS for the two IBO courses.
I also want to let everyone know that each target on the HH Classic course will be different, no duplicates.
I think everyone will have a blast shooting these outstanding targets.

Folks, while you're here and need to catch your breath from flingin' all those arrows at the Howard Hill Classic / IBO Mid America traditional archery event., there is plenty to explore at Tannehill State Park if you're into history.
The museum is a fascinating place to start, not to mention the furnace, actually used during the War Between the States. There is so much to do here at Tannehill State Park, don't miss this event May 31, June 1 & 2, 2019 in McCall, AL. By the way, you don't have to join the IBO to shoot this event.

I had a great time; it was well worth the 18 hour round trip drive. Both events were well done and very professionally staffed. Got to shoot with some great archers (Rick Harper, Robert Harper, and Bob Enlow) and met some really great people. Thanks for all the hard work that the hosts did. I'll be back next year.

Yes it was a great shoot again this year. Maybe one of the best as I have been there for last 10 years and they have all been great! Weather was perfect and the courses were fantastic. Great job Terry and teaming up with IBO was great addition. Meeting new people (Grumpy Jim and his son) was a high light of the weekend. Have made many friends at this shoot. We have seen them all over the country over the years. One of the key spots for Robert and I to meet up and shoot till we can't go any more.
See you next year!!

This was number 13 for me and was the best one yet, in my opinion. While it was quite hot, the Hill course was totally shaded and the breeze was really nice. Best of all, the humidity was fairly low, a most comfortable combination of conditions. Even you northern guys could have dealt with the weather just fine, so next year, come on down. I didn't sign up for the IBO event, because I have some health issue that don't go well with heat. However, as it turned out I believe I could have shot both events easily. A lot of people did and told me it wasn't unduly uncomfortable at all.
At first, I wasn't sure that combining the events would be a good mix, but it turned out to be great. A lot of my friends did shoot both, and it sounds like I left myself out of a neat adventure. The Hill range was laid out quite nicely. It had a few targets that had certain impediments, but none were unrealistically trashy. It was fun. The targets were fresh and new. Terry and his crew did a really great job and made this a very good shoot again this year.
Best of all, I shot 3 rounds without missing any targets, an unprecedented accomplishment for me. So, yeah, I am feeling real good about this event. I plan to be right back there next year as well.

Terry and staff are 1st class and folks like us unfortunately don’t know how good we have it till it’s gone sometimes. Thanks for your years of dedication Terry. I had a sick FIL in the hospital and was afraid to leave town. I had a longing all weekend to be at Tannehill and will make every effort to be there next year. Hope there was a record crowd.
