READ ALL OF THE RULES BEFORE SIGNING UP!!! (I did shorten this up from last year, I swear!)
While I do ask that you consider waiting until a future swap if you haven’t built a shootable bow before, the Bow Swap IS open to all levels of bowyers. Your goal in entering the swap should be to challenge yourself and pour your heart and soul into making a bow for your recipient by the deadline; it SHOULD NOT be to score a sweet bow for yourself.
By signing up for the 2019 TradGang Annual Bow Swap you are entering into an agreement with the other participants that you will abide by the rules of the swap below and are on the hook to deliver a bow to your recipient (hereafter referred to as ‘victim’) by the due date. We expect you take your obligation seriously and not leave someone hanging because you procrastinated until the end and then life got in the way. If you’re not sure you want to be held to this kind of commitment, don’t sign up.
IF YOU’RE STILL ONBOARD:
Good! Sign up by posting in this thread and please list the following information: your draw length, desired draw weight within a 5-10 pound range, right or left-handed and whether you will be building a glass or wood bow, one piece or takedown for the trade. If you are making a glass bow and want glass in return, or making wood and want wood in return, please note as much. Also note if you’re are willing/able to ship international.
Once you’ve signed up, PM me your shipping address as well as a good phone number and email address to reach you at if anything comes up. This contact information will be kept private.
Signups are now open for three weeks, closing January 25, 2019 at midnight (EST). I will PM your victim’s information as soon as I can get it all ironed out, but I promise no later than Friday 2/1. If you need additional info on your victim, PM me and I will gather it for you so you don’t have to worry about tipping your hand.
DEADLINE:
You have four months to get your bow shipped, the shipping deadline is Friday, May 31st. Remember not to wait until the end because: (a) everyone likes to see bows getting delivered early, (b) lots of stories of bows that didn’t make it to the finish line and a plan B (or beyond) was required, and (c) we all get curve balls in life we have to work around.
There will be a 30 day grace period after your shipping deadline. During this 30 days (and hopefully prior) I expect you to be in constant communication with at least myself if not the larger forum on your progress. If I don’t hear from you, I will be calling at all hours of the day and night to get updates. If that proves fruitless, I plan to arrange a TG member posse to show up at the address I have on file for you to see if you need help finding your phone. Any bowyers who do not ship by the end of the grace period will be asked to forward the bow they received directly to their victim.
Note there is no distinction in deadline this year for newbies and no holding of bows until newbie ships. (I do reserve the right to tell a bowyer to hold a bow if I start to worry about progress by their victim.) Not only did everyone ship on time last year, but looking through old records from Kelly the newbies have always made a great showing and the deadbeats are more likely to be old veterans who didn’t take their commitment seriously or had a curveball and didn't reach out and communicate as much.
COMMUNICATION:
The only way this annual swap is going to stay alive in the future is through good comms by all participants; a lot can be forgiven and worked out with good communication. Keep us up to date on your progress in the Progress Thread; that’s half the fun of the swap. If Roy can figure out how to post pictures, he can probably help anyone else do the same. Reach out to me at any time if you have concerns, have come up with problems, have an emergency, etc. The Gang here on the Bench is a pretty helpful and generous group if you share what’s going on and ask for help. But there’s also little patience left for people who just stop communicating when they fall behind and keep this swap unfinished until the New Year. I wasn’t joking about the posse.
UPON RECEIPT:
You need to post some pictures. Your bowyer may post the most beautiful pictures in the history of bow porn prior to shipping, but that doesn’t remove your obligation to post at least one full draw pic with your new bow. I don’t want to hear any excuses about camera batteries in a sock drawer. Find a teenager somewhere to take a picture for you if necessary, or call me and I’ll see if we can get the posse to visit and help you out.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
Same as prior years: to keep it as honest as possible, no one who has signed up to TradGang after the date of this post can enter.
Over the years there have also been a few concerns about liability, so I will throw in that anyone who receives a bow in this trade is doing so at his/her own risk and in no way can hold anyone responsible in any way should a misfortune occur due to the use of said bow.
IT’S GO TIME…
-
I’m definitely in again this year!
I’ll be building a one piece glass longbow
I’m open to any kind of bow.
45-50#@28” right handed
Would rather not ship over seas
-
I want to be in again this year if possible. I won't know for a week or so if it will work out.
In any case, I'll throw my hat in the ring as an "emergency bowyer" in case things go south for any of the participants.
-
Looks like it may be a slow year.
-
Heck I’ll trade bows with Dannon :biglaugh:, I’ll get details on this eve .
-
Lol! Kenny I’m starting to get worried no ones going to sign up. I’ve been watching these posts for years and finally started building some and it seems like the swap is fading away! Bad thing about it you’d already know what woods your bow would have since you’d be the one to ship it to me! :biglaugh:
-
Makes no sense that it should go away. Dave did a good job of resuscitating it for the 2018 swap.
-
LOL Dannon!!
Right handed
40-50 @28"
will build a gwass bow one pc or TD
Happy with board, self or gwass bow in return
Can ship over pond
C'mon dudes, I'm trying something new for my victim... :saywhat: :goldtooth:
-
Ok, I will play again.
Right handed, 40-45#@28", I think I'd like to get glass this time please.
I will build a TDL in glass.
I don't think I can swing international shipping, sorry.
-
I don’t normally make New Years resolutions, but this year I did. Less overtime and more shop time. I’m in. I missed being part of the swap the last two years.
Right hand, 50-55# @ 28”. I’ll be building a bamboo, wood, bamboo tri lam something or other. I have some risers cut out and waiting to become longbows and, if all the planets and stars align, recurves.
The last recurve I was working on exploded on the tree so I have been wanting to try again.
If possible, I’d prefer to ship within North America.
Dave.
-
I modified my original post. I’m open to any kind of bow.
-
I'm in, I'll make a glass bow of some sort. I'd like a glass bow in trade, 50-60pounds at 31"s, right handed. I'd just as soon not ship overseas.
-
Well, that turned around quick. We kinda needed a minimum of three to keep a little mystery involved. It may get more interesting yet.
:campfire:
-
I started mine today... Or one kinda like it...
110# @ 48" and that's all I'm sayin...
-
So.
-
Ahh, I figgered you were sining up :)
-
Maybe...
-
C’mon Roy! :bigsmyl:
-
Ok I will try this this year. I will build a glass longbow. Probably the FHLB. Dont matter what I get back glass or wood been wanting a wood on anyhow. 40-45 @28 RH ship in country
-
I think I will pass this beauty event for this year since I have a lot of things to deal with at the moment.
But keep me in mind that if someone gone missing, I can build for.
good luck and best wishes.
-
I"ll put my name in again this year. I'll be building a longbow (glass or wood whichever is preferred). would like to keep within the US. I'm a lefty and prefer something in the 45-55# range. Glass or wood...it doesn't matter. I'm not picky but I would prefer that you keep your pink dyes for Roys bow
-

:bigsmyl:   :bigsmyl:
-
I don't think Roy's scared to sign up because of building a bow, I think he's scared of what he's gonna get.
:wavey:
-
They won’t hold up without glass, you sure?
-
What's dah madder, ya skeered?
 :bigsmyl:
-
Nope... :biglaugh:
-
how many of we yet?
-
Oh man.... As much as I'd like to participate this year, I just don't think it's gonna happen.
-
One good swap and nobody wants to play !! :biglaugh:
Not pointing at anybody in particular... Roy.
-
Wyd I do now?
-
The more participants, the more fun the swap is.
Just sayin’.
Dave.
-
I suppose I could.
-
-
Be building a boo backed trilam with osage belly prolly red elm core lam.
I'm rh, 27 inch draw, 30 to 35 pounds, shoot 3 under.
Wood or gwass is ok...
Ah crap, gla... glas... glass I meant to say:)
Ya happy now son?
-
Yup , free pink lams to Roy’s builder!!
Just kiddin on that!!

-
Well done Kenny. Ya got him.
-

I'm counting 8 that have made it official so far. Could use a few more to keep it exciting...
-
Ya better count again dude.
Unless you aren't in the swap?
-
Ya better count again dude.
Unless you aren't in the swap?
I don't see where I've officially entered yet.
My wife keeps trying to talk me out of it. But I haven't missed a swap to date.
That said, maybe we'll get another 60 or 70 guys and gals signing up in the home stretch and I simply will be too busy tracking everything to build one myself. Ya never know.
-
You can do better than that....
-
just wanted to add that if need be I can do a wood bow as well.
-
just wanted to add that if need be I can do a wood bow as well.
You just may be stuck building for Roy......... he's allergic to glass :campfire:
-
For Roy I got some pink wood left over if ya need it.
-
Mike, ya gotta quit taking those smarty pants pills in the morning.
I get enough crap from ole pap pap in Mo:)
-
I am thinkin MO. is where this all started anyhow :dunno:
-
:biglaugh:
-
Officially adding my name. I've got a strong urge to do some bow building that's simply overpowering the self preservation urge to avoid angering the wife.
Looking for RH, 45-50# @28, 3 under. Although happy to shoot anything between 30 and 60 so don't stress it. I'll probably build glass, but have an urge to make some shavings so we'll see. Happy with either in return.
Last week! Help me spread the word and if you're on the fence just commit and do it. Fun times and the more the merrier.
-
It ain’t about building the best bow in the swap, it’s about building your best effort.
And maybe trying something you’ve been putting off !
All in fun and learning plus you can harass your victim secretly til you ship it... :bigsmyl: :campfire:
-
^5 David....
-
This sounds like fun but I'm afraid I don't qualify to join.
-
This sounds like fun but I'm afraid I don't qualify to join.
do not think like that... this is not competition, this is sharing...
-
Okay, deal me in, that is if it is open to square heads. I will build a three piece take down glass recurve. I would like to get a bow, any kind say 35-40 right hand 30 inch draw.
-
Good deal, Bue...
-
Wow, pretty awesome group of bowyers signed up this year even if not that many of them. Still a couple days to join up, will close this Friday.
While I want to make sure you're committed to following through if you sign up, this is wide open to the less experienced bowyers as well. In the past, most have surpassed their own expectations and really honed their skills during the course of the swap. If you're on the fence, send me a PM to discuss.
:wavey:
-
Can I sign Roy up for another one?
-
No pictures but got a trilam ready to glue up tonight.
I'll get pictures up later.
Kenny, I'll need a piece of your pink riser wood, sending this one west:)
-
Can I sign Roy up for another one?
You want to inflict Roy on two poor souls? That's just mean.
-
:goldtooth:
-
To Indiana ? :biglaugh:
-
Indiana is a big state, but it could land in there someplace..
Addy is Pinkerton Ind. So I dunno:)
 :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
-
:bigsmyl:
-
Ah crap, Pinkerton Ind, is actually Pinkerton India....
Not shipping overthere...
It's going to Princepinkton, Indiana:)
-
I got plenty of pink wood left over myself. I could even do pink veneers Who is my victim
-
Dammit I'm in, if you all will have me. Warning, I only make glass ASL's.
This may be a bad idea, I have been spending a lot of time away from home do to aging family members, but I think I can commit to 5/31. You are all such a nice group of people, I would feel like a douche if I didn't.
Any kind of Bow is fine with me, although I do like those curvy RD Bow a lot of you guy's make.
I draw 28," 40-50#
-
I got plenty of pink wood left over myself. I could even do pink veneers Who is my victim
Canopyboy is your victim:)
Flem we would love to have ya join us..
Ya like pink I hope?
-
Pink! Dammit, I'm going to need a whole new ensemble to go with. Any of you guy's know where to get pink leather? :saywhat:
-
Pink! Dammit, I'm going to need a whole new ensemble to go with. Any of you guy's know where to get pink leather? :saywhat:
Roy does, he just keeps it to himself.
-
Lonnie..
Ah never mind:)
-
I am in!
Plan is to build an all wood bow (Osage backed with hickory or Mulberry backed with Hickory) in a R/D design in the 50# range. Happy to make it lighter if someone wants a bow for a young person. Since deer season is over I have had TURKEYS on the brain. May try and do a camo treatment with some green in it if my selected "victim" would like. I generally make a longish bow of 65" to 72". Have built shorter bows but that's what my current forms measure. Shipping in the US is fine. If an International participant is really interested I'm sure we can work something out.
My specs are:
Open to any bow materials in a hunting weight (45#-55#). Self, D-bow, R/D, RC... don't care
31.25 inch draw and right handed... I shoot three under.
Since I shoot three under and have ape-length arms and a stupid long draw I have a hard time with really short bows but happy to get whatever comes my way.
Looking forward to the fun of tantalizing someone with build photos.
OkKeith

Rollin’ now!!!
34 hours to go.
-
Trying to make it easier, just put a sale on!!
Roy , I got lots of glass in stock bro!

Thank God you did not say pink chaps lol
-
Do we get to ask questions of our victims on the sly, through canopyboy?
-
Do we get to ask questions of our victims on the sly, through canopyboy?
Absolutely! That said, if it involves pink chaps I’m not sure you’ll like the answer.
-
any room left in the sandbox ? Count me in Dave. Most likely build a 1-piece R/D glass bow. Might test drive a hill form though.
Right hand, split finger
40-45#, 28"
-
Good deal, Josh.
-
Good deal Josh! Got pink? :biglaugh:
-
OK . Here’s a deal for anybody thinkin about it and ain’t in yet...
I’ll furnish glass and lams for one bowyer that I will have my lovely assistant draw a name for . Or some Osage for a trilam, sorry , got no staves.
JUMP ON IN !! :biglaugh:
-
Kenny, this is why I like ya.
Thanks bro
-
your name can only go in the hat once Roy....unless you post pics wearing pink chaps
-
If y'all let me in,I'll play :archer2:
-
SOY!!!
-
Howdy Soy..
Certainly you can come join the fun...
I lent my pink chaps to Kenny and he won't give em back:)
-
That’s an image I want out of my mind. Who brought pink chaps into the conversation again? I wanna mark their name special before I draw.
-
 I do love me a good set of pink chaps I can't blame him for not sending them back
-
Alright. Let’s make this the best swap yet!!!
First timer here, but I’m in.
I’ll be building a glass D/R somewhere between 54-60” depending on my victim.
I don’t have any pink wood, but have plenty of pink spray paint.
I’m a righty with a 28.5 draw. 45-55#. Don’t care if it’s glass or not. Would prefer to ship continental US.
-
Forgot...anything in the ballpark of 45#@28" the split, will try to build one in a timely fashion wood or glass :goldtooth:
-
Still on the fence here but, starting to fall off. Its been a while since I've been out in the shop due to some life changing events. might just be what the doctor ordered.
I will know tomorrow for sure :goldtooth:
-
your name can only go in the hat once Roy....unless you post pics wearing pink chaps
That made me throw up I'll a little. :knothead:
-
Dang it! Put me in! Just don't tell my wife.
-Ben
-
Atta boy, Mr. Ben
-
I shoot right handed and would like something between 50-70 lbs, 28" draw. I don't care if it's glass or wood just try and not make it so nice that I feel guilty for receiving it, like I did last year with the bow Travis made for me. I don't like the color pink :)
I'll be building more than likely a wood tri lam with a twist.
-
A planned twist? :biglaugh:
-
A planned twist? :biglaugh:
Lol. You betcha.
Man I hope I get Roy.
-
Mr. Ben
What size chaps ya wear?
-
Luckily I'm taller than you and Kenny, so I can't share y'all set. You'll have to make me some new ones. 36" inseam.
-
That’s an image I want out of my mind. Who brought pink chaps into the conversation again? I wanna mark their name special before I draw.
Ummmm that would be Roy! He has kinda got a thing about pink stuff...
-
So how many are in so far?
Dave.
-
Well I’m in. Going to build a one piece bamboo backed something in a 66-68” depending on victim.
Specs for me-
35-45# @ 29.5”
RH split finger. Would prefer bamboo backed in return if possible but not required. Only must is an arrow shelf, don’t like off the knuckle.
Would like to ship continental US only.

Good deal, Cody...

I like pink. As long as it’s feathers.
Dave.
-
Dave - lost track of how many. Up at Lancaster with limited connectivity at the moment. Will count ‘em up in the morning. Hoping we will break 20. Good last minute showing. Let’s hope they build bows faster...

 It’s going to be a good swap. Come on guys, there’s still time for a few more to join the fun.
Dave.
-
Looks like a good swap! Wish I could get in, but life won't allow it this year. Got a new job - have to move! Sell, buy, move, get ready for new job...no time to make bows. You guys all have fun! Looks like this years theme is "pink".
-
Crap...and to top it off kenny is having a sale! Geeezzzz.
-
Wish you the best, Mitch...
-
There has been a lot of activity since I was here last, looks like a good turn out.
Ben, I'll try to make a something ugly this year. Might try out a new design on my pick, if I end up with a shootable bow out of the new form.
-
Well, by Roy’s count there are 17 this year. Signups are now closed. I’ll start working on assignments so people can figure out what materials they need to order from Kenny’s sale. More to come!
-
Run through the posts Dave and make sure that count is correct.
-
Roy's list is correct, with Monterey as a definite "maybe". Looks to be a great swap although I'm a little skeered if the required full draw pic must include those pink chaps. :o
-
Or pink loincloth..
Can just see Kenny now.
OMG......
-
LOL
-
All this talk of pink gives me an

Even the rooster knew you shouldn’t have been wearing pink chaps :deadhorse:

And don't even start with the chicken jokes.
-
Wish I'd of had chaps on that day.
Them guys got some sharp spurs, and they are fast.
LOL
Kenny, don't even start:)
-
I feel like I’m watching a peewee tee ball game. Roy is the coach setting the ball up and telling all the kids not to hit it. Then in true peewee fashion we’re all swinging while his hand is still on the ball. This swap is fun. Lol.

A valid concern without a doubt.
