whats the majority like to shoot at,,, I have bales and cubes but I want a deer target so can move it around out back and practice some hunting shots.
I like the Big Shooter buck for general shooting. The Delta intruder buck is a bit smaller. The price is right on either.
okay thanks,, I was wondering on the Rinehart's but figure there must be a better deal without something being so cheap it falls apart fast
This company has been having a booth and selling targets at ETAR for a couple years now. I see they are now having an ad on the TBM website and Clay Hayes is working with them. They are a real nice target I will be getting one this year https://bigshottargets.com/product-category/rw-3d-targets/
I wouldent recommend the delta intruder buck.

So that's my delta intruder buck above. So small I painted it like a fawn. See that shot that is several inches low? It hits that hard plastic piece where the hard leg twists into the body - so ya have to lay it down to get the arrow out. Eventually the target comes apart.
I wrote the company a letter about the poor design and never got a response.

x2 on the R&W targets. The foam isn't as easy to pull as a Rinehart but they are cheaper and very durable.
I was lucky enough to get to tour the R&W "factory." They made me a "stump" target from the bottom half of their bear target mold. It sits inconspicuously in my backyard, year-round, so I can take a few shots whenever I want without fear of it getting stolen or neighbors complaining. The target has seen a lot of abuse from arrows and the elements but it is still going strong.
Good luck with your search and drop me a line next time you're in Harrisburg.

That's going to be an issue with any target with plastic legs. On the flip side these types of targets are $200ish cheaper. The issue on the ones with foam legs is that repeated hits break the leg off. I rarely hit the leg and choose the cheaper target. I guess we'll have to pick our poison.
Inexpensive is never good for longevity. Look for Rhinehart blemish targets. Great discount and is only a difference of aesthetics.

I bought a blemished Rhineheart deer target from Big Jim several years back, and it has been great.
I only paid $100 for it, plus shipping.
(can't beat a Rhineheart!)
I've had good luck with used targets from archery clubs. Currently I'm shooting at a full strut turkey and a hog. Total cost $25. They were far from shot out, the scoring rings were getting tough for the compounders to see.
R&W targets
I would have said R&W a year ago, but since then they have changed their foam to make for easier pulling. The ones I bought last July just are not holding up compared to the ones sold in previous years or a Rhinehart.
By far, the best deal I have found is to procure a blem 3D target from Big Jim.
They have served me well.
My only experience is with the big shooter buck and its garbage. I shoot every day and within 3 days I had arrows sticking out o the back and within 3 weeks it had a soccer ball sized hole in the vitals.

I like BowMike's suggestion to get a blemished Rhinehart at a reduced price. I had a Big Shooter buck and it was fair. It lasted two summers with fairly heavy usage. Hitting the plastic legs cost me several arrows. Since I shoot wood, a bad hit commonly broke the arrow.
Most all the targets are wrong for trad archers. Either the targets are way too small or you can't pull the arrows. I have been using the Delta block type deer. don't know what they are called. They aren't so high priced and you can actually hit them size wise. And can pull the arrows out. But they don't last long.
Most 3d targets aren't made for shooting the quantity of arrows we shoot. We can destroy a vital area just fine tuning broadheads in one weekend. My cousin once told me how good a 3D target he had was and it lasted him several years of compound shooting. So I got one. It took 3 weeks to destroy it. Today's compound shooters shoot about 50 times per year and hit a golf ball sized vital at 40 yards.
My wife got me a high priced one last year for xmas. I hurt my shoulder trying to pull wood arrows out of it. My shoulder still hurts a year later. If I ever see the SOB that designed that target I'm gonna punch him in the mouth. That target was tiny and un-usable and cost hundreds.
I don't know any that are good or affordable.

I tried Big Jims site 1st but I'm taking it he isn't selling the blemished targets anymore or maybe he gets them a certain time of year?
anyway do you guys remember that old ad in TBM maybe 18yrs ago it could of been sooner but it was a bag target that was shaped like a deer or bear?? seemed goofy at the time but you would refill it with plastic bags or whatever and we know those plastic bags stop arrows and are the easiest to pull an arrow out of,,,,,,wondering if that guy is still around?
other than that I'm going to look into a couple of these you guys mentioned thanks for the posts..
Had really good success (and economical) using burlap feed sacks (from feed and grain) stuffed with plastic from pallet packaging at local stores. The bags are perfect for body size and the brown burlap is just like a deer hide/color. I hang them up using a pvc frame or down in my woods from tree limbs. You can even be creative and attache leg and a neck if you want. I just shoot the "body." I painted some black like a bear.

I shot the rhineheart woods buck in half in 3 months :deadhorse: and the broadhead buck in 6. :banghead: I have had the R&W med deer target going on 3 years and still have yet to shoot a hole through it ( no broad heads in any target) . The r&w have replacement mid sections at an affordable price :bigsmyl:
x2 what Bldtrailer said great targets. i own the med deer and the coyote.
Have to look st R&W. My Rhinehart woodland boar is holding up well but I'd like a deer target as well.

yeah R&W is the place

What I would do is buy the largest BLOB target you can afford and them buy target faces for it. I have owned some blobs and they're the most dense and durable targets i've shot. My only complaint is not buying one of the huge ones when I was at tannehill last year. Don't worry, I wont make that mistake twice!
I'm coming back with a huge one this year and I know it'll last close to a decade.
I just sent a request to R&W for the current prices of their deer and boar targets. They looked pretty good.
Optics Planet carries R&W targets....how about this BEER target? :biglaugh: That one would give a person a LOT of body to shoot at!

I have had no luck with the Delta targets for a long time now. IMO...junk. I usually just use a bag target or the Block target. I've definitely been thinking about the R&W targets, so glad to hear good comments here. I have read that the models that have just a replacement piece in the middle of the body are so thin near the bottom they can easily crack, so if I were to get one, I'd choose something like the Big Buck Deer where the entire middle with a front leg is one piece.

I'd be interested if there is a difference between direct pricing vs Optics Planet.

that's good to know. I'll try to pick one up at a shoot this summer. I shot through my rhineharts way too quick.
Had a Blob best broad head target ever! BUT heavy as sin the UPS driver couldn't get it off the truck without :scared: help and I could only move it with a hand :banghead: truck. weather proof but very hard to pull field pointed arrows out :archer2: great with broadheads
I forgot to add with the R&W targets I cover the body with coffee bag burlap(heaviest I can find) same color as a deer(looks like fur) blocks the uv rays and hides the scoring rings/ arrow :archer2: damage. Must look real had some bucks on trail cam try to " :bigsmyl: date" her.
I personally like the Glendale buck....a little blocky looking, but it's easy to rotate the insert or change if needed.
I've had pretty good luck so far with a Rinehart "woodland boar" and a blem "woodland strutting turkey". I picked the turkey up from Big animal at TBOF last year, less than a C note. The majority of my shooting is at a big block of foam I got at Elberton's last shoot, what 15 years ago? I spray paint 5 dots on it and it's lived outside all this time.
