Total weight of my gold tip is 510 grains and 9.1gpp on stu's chart. Would I benefit by putting line in arrow to raise weight closer to 560grains and 10gpp as I shoot 56#
You'd have to define "benefit". It will work and make the arrow heavier, but are you having some issue that makes you think that's necessary? :coffee:
Bow is loud -- have 1 set cat whiskers on it ===super kodiak 7.75 brace==== no hand shock just loud
Before switching to heavier arrows/inserts, I used to put paracord in my shafts to add weight. When I started doing that I did notice that my bow seemed quieter.

I know a guy who has done it but getting them to exactly the same weight would seem difficult to me.

Not really, all ya need is a grain scale.
Thanks guys---- I got a grain scale to weigh everything---and field points to 300 grains
Stiffer shaft, more point weight. Too many arrow choices these days to mess with putting something in them. Order some up. Support the sport!

Hey Joel,
I take it that you're shooting 3 fingers under? Which can be louder. Have you added any bow dampening items like the Mini Limbsavers bow dampeners? Calve hair on the tips of your bow? Or change the position of your cat whiskers? Or have you tried tinkering with your brace height? I once had the same issue but was simply amazed how quiet my bow got by taking one twist out of the string.
Yes, a heavier arrow is definitely more quiet but all I'm saying that there's more than one way to quiet down a bow. But there are just as many ways to weight down a arrow, brass inserts, paracord as previously mentioned, Stiffer spine arrow, heavier broadhead or pending on what kind of broadhead you're shooting you can change the broadhead insert from aluminum to steel. That's what I do with my Zwickey's.
Best of luck!

Try 8" BH especially if your 3 fingers under. If you running D-97 try another string material. I found it noisy on my TD. My arrows are close to yours in weight. I also only run one set of whiskers on my bows. Anymore "stuff" and your losing performance.
I have padded the limb tips with velcro and raised the BH on a couple of my bows and made them whisper quiet. I think this would most likely help hush her up. I shoot 9-10 GPP arrows on all my bows with great results.
weed eater line won't effect spine and that's why we did it 20yrs ago I used to put 3 lengths inside my arrows that where cut 1/8" longer than the bottom of the nocks,, I put my carbons up over 700grains but I forget all the details,, I just shoot heritage with 100gr inserts now and a 600gr arrow its proven for me..
weedwacker line is awesome for tuning for arrow weight and on a budget,,,, I remember one guy who filled his arrows with pepper.
Adding weight, like weight tubes will make the arrow act weaker due to the weight. I tested this year's ago. If you can add weight behind inserts, like the GT weight system, it has less effect on spine than tip weight. Hope you understand that.
Heard of guys using sand as well
I use trimmer line to get weight up. Quieter bow and closer point on. Ive noticed no impact on dynamic spine or arrow flight. Its cheap and it works. What's not to like?
Try experimenting with raising the brace height to 8.25 - 8.5 inches. Every Bear recurve I have ever shot is too loud for my ears at brace heights under 8 inches.
I've used speaker wire and liked it better.
Seemed like the rubber coating made sure it didn't rattle.
Would weed eater line make it easier to shoot through brush :goldtooth:

I used 550 cord when I messed with carbon arrows. :archer: :coffee: :archer2:
I found mini aquarium tubing worked best.
Just cut them all the same lenght....about a 4th of an inch longer that needed so they will all weigh close to the same and they will scrunch for no rattle.
That of course is if you absolutely positively have to weigh up arrows. I'd try to find out why my bow is loud to start with.
What kind of sound is it making?
I second aquarium tubing.
For lighter, I used to use Backer Rod. Its foam and round whatever length you want. Get it at hardware. Would quiet my arrows but ad very little weight.
Increasing the Brace would help.
Blow crow call right before you shoot. :)
