Left a fraction of bark on it and it favors Bacote when finished.

Looks nice..

I love a good persimmon bow. It has some of the best micro character in the grain. It might not be the best performer. But it holds its own and looks great. I look forward to seeing more pictures.

First of all thanks for all the kind input. After tillering I’m always eager to loose a few shafts through my bows to see how they hold up. That said when I finished this one I realized I didn’t have a needed string length of 64”. What did I use but a length of weed eater pull rope with loops served with artificial sinew. That’s why I didn’t show a side pic I was ashamed of my make shift string 😜. I guess since selfbows will be something I’ll continue I should get one of those one loop strings with a timber hitch on the other end. The bow retained more string follow than I desired probably due to the small diameter of my stave. I shoot it well with 500 spine G/Tips. I only had an ugly remnant of leather and used it and I’m learning the stitching methods just from looking at them.Does anyone know any good tutorials on leather grip stitching? I listened to Clay Hayes talk about belly compression on small diameter staves and it makes sense to me so I’ll avoid them in the future and will probably go Hickory on my next build. I use Eric Krewson’s Gizmo and it seems to keep things as they should be. Top coated with Minwax satin spray

Your grip stitching looks fine to me.
There is good info in the traditional bowyers bibles 3 or 4 set of books.

Thanks Roy I’ll get those for sure. For those asking here’s a few more pics. The temp string won’t let me achieve brace height I’m looking for despite twisting. Gorilla glue’s tendency to foam makes for an ugly side plate. Though it’s not easy on the eye it’s a blast to run arrows through!

Roy, this one I read last year and it got me pumped about wood selection! Haven’t even got to volume 2. Do you have a favorite?

Thats looks really nice. I envy you guys that have access to all the hardwood forests.

Hey, I envy them as well. Just so happens I had a few young Persimmons on my place that never made fruit so I hacked em down. They were too small to even split and now I only have one left. I’m wanting to do some hickory but have to get a connection. Osage grows in the central part of Mississippi but I know no landowners to beg!

That makes your Bow cooler, you grew it first.
