Title: Moving a band saw
Post by: TomKatt on December 17, 2018, 09:44:03 AM
Have a 14" powermatic band saw that needs to be moved with a  full sized truck, have 2 thoughts,  stand up and strapped down(not so shure on this as it is top heavy) or plywood and 2x4 make a frame and lay it on its back also strapped down. I don't think that it can be rigged secure enough for standing up and not shure about taking the saw off the base I don" know much about this model. any ideas would be welcome, I don"t want to break it before I get it home . Thanks

I would lay it down flat on some type of heavy padding and strap it down so it doesn't slide.

I would strongly suggest that you remove the table, the trunnions could be broken if bounced hard---keep the wheels from hitting anything in transit--you should be good---good luck--great  saw

When I moved a 17” saw, I layed it on it’s back. Being top heavy it’s easy to load into a pickup that way. I agree it’s best to remove the table first.

It may be worth the money to rent a U Haul truck because it has ramps and rails allowing you to securely strap the saw to the wall of the cargo area.  Just my two cents....

I've moved mine twice. I did it once standing up and once laying down. No problems either way. When it was stood up, I had other stuff packed around it, and I strapped it down.

I once knocked the whole saw over, hard, while cutting up an osage log. Knocked it all out of kilter, but didn't break anything. I just loosened the bolts that hold the top and bottom frame halves together, and moved it back towards where it was until the blade tracked good again.
