Title: Need a SWAG from Gwass bowyers
Post by: Crooked Stic on December 12, 2018, 11:29:32 AM
Everyone has seen the FHRC thread. Well it has a vibration after the shot. Talking to another bowyer that has done a lot of proto typing on TDs suggests I need to shorten the working limb to increase the preload at brace. So what need to figure out is how much  weight will I gain by adding two in. to the riser length.  I think making the limb shorter on the tip increases it more than shortening the riser. ???

2at riser will make about 3 lb compared to 5 on bow length. SWAG depending on design

Kinda the Ball park I was in to Kenny. Thinking maybe using the straight .001 taper with a little bit longer PL and same amount of TW. How much taper is in the PL part of the superlam? If this all works out I may make a sled like Bue.

The p lam part has .009 taper for 11” or so but then has been paralleled on the butt to thin it a bit so it has 8” parallel. A work in progress... lol

I'm no expert but I would try more taper. In the full draw pic it doesn't look like mid limb is working much. From what I've found, if that whole limb isn't bending evenly you'll have hand shock. If a bow is just bending at the fades the whole limb is slamming forward all at once instead of returning evenly. I use 0.003 taper with a tip wedge. The working limb is 17"s.

I was going off a 61" take down so kind of a different animal than what your working with, I was just throwing it out there for something else to look at. Might not work with your design. My limbs design looks similar to yours. I shoot my 61" with a 31" draw, no stack or finger pinch that I notice.

I should also clarify that that's a 0.003 taper core using .030 veneers so not a true 0.003 taper.

It will be a .003 taper with or without veneers provided they are parallel.

Mike where you planing on keeping the same taper on the PL & just extending it to aprox 3" out of the fades with the exstended riser ?
