Title: String makers I have a question
Post by: Joeabowhunter on November 21, 2018, 12:06:26 PM
I recently tuned my new Thunderhorn bow and want to get a second string for it.  The stock string is D97 (14 strand).  The bow is quiet and quick and I have no complaints as is.  My question is this:  Do I just buy another "stock string" OR go with a Fury or BCY X string.  If I do the latter, what arrow speed difference can I expect and should I expect to hear a difference as well?  I know everyone has favorite strings but I'd like real world comparisons if possible to decide whether changing from the OEM string is worth it.

I'd stay with what you have unless you just want to experiment.  Most gains from string to string are insignificant at best. Everything is a trade off. I wouldn't expect more than a couple fps difference speed wise and noise is subjective. Often, added speed is negated by the need for additional silencing.

If it's a spare string I would highly recommend making it identical.

string making to me is just a way to make myself more self reliant its not a real necessity but its nice to know how to do if you have the patience. but like tommcdonald said just make them consistent.

I have 7 different BCY materials I can build my personal strings from including D97. My bows all wear X99 or Mercury. X99 is replacing the BCY X - no new X being made on BCY is running out of colors.
