I've been doing some research to try to find these buggers, since they are not too far from me here in PA. The hogs we have in PA at present are protected animals until the new regs come out!
Can anyone give me some advice on where to find them?
Shawnee Stare Forest? I remember reading something about that.
Thanks,
Jaz
Jaz, I checked into hogs in Ohio a year or two ago. Another tradganger pm'ed me about finding them in Wayne National Forest. I remember something about Vinton County, but the messages are gone and I can't remember all the specifics. I think there is a webpage for Ohio DNR that shows a map of areas where pigs have been reported.
I was only in Ohio for a short while and never did follow up on them.
Thanks for the reply.
The ODNR site has a map of supposed wild boar sightings in Ohio ( http://www.ohiodnr.com/wildlife/dow/regulations/PDF/2007%20Colored%20Feral%20Swine.pdf ). I've been intrigued by the notion of hunting them as well, but it's hard to find someone that's actually seen one (though it's easy to find someone who knows someone that has - heh).
Anyway, Vinton County (Wayne Nat'l Forest, etc.) is supposed to hold some. My son and I plan to tromp around there a bit this summer to see what we can see.
Good luck - hope you find 'em!
I have hunted in Wayne National Forest. We stay at Lake Hope State Park. I've never seen a hog nor has anyone I've stayed near in camp. But every year someone knows someone who saw someone with a hog: on the ground/in the pickup/at the butchers. Good luck finding them, there is at least one high fence area near where we stay so I suppose some may escape, dunno...Mike
Thanks Guys. Sounds like the hogs in PA. They must be in isolated pockets.
I live in ohio and have never seen a hog except at krogers. :biglaugh:
I talked to two different county Ohio conservation officers last fall about Wayne National Forest. They both said there were no hogs in Wayne National Forest at that time.
I wasn't even asking about hogs.
Hey Jim,
I've been wanting to do this to. Let me know if you and your son find any.
shoot them have no mercy you do not want hogs.
you will find them rooting up your food plots and eating whiteoak acorns, they have two litters a year up to 12 pigs at a time the deer cannot compete with them they are worthless pests.
i repeat you will not get rid of them once you have them.Ralph
just my opinion guys not meaning to hyjack this thread it's just down here they are a real problem and they are every where they have been introduced i kill 5 to 10 a year with archery equipment and could kill dozens if i hunted with gun in the fall,Ralph
they are worse than rabbits breeding wise and a band of hogs can completly destroy a cornfield in days.on the possitive side they are the ultimate animal to stalk with a bow i guess you have to weigh all the pro's and con's about having them!
Ralph, can you suggest some counties?
You got it, T.J. I'm not holding my breath though. :-D
